You're a funnyman in a forum full of funnymen. It's mundane. Unoriginal. Boring. Your act requires a straightman of some sort. I'm actually a little sad for you. You have such potential.

Totem was always better with a smallish cast of FFXIers nipping at his heels.

This is just sad.

You don't need legs to sit at an assembly line.

Besides the way this is worded it would affect sales of high capacity autoclaves. That would decimate medical research; you can't hold back R&D and not have problems down the road. Those kids are going to come crying for treatment after inhaling toxic chemicals for years, and dammit if we don't treatment ready for them, well that's just throwing free money down the drain! End of life care stuff man, its ******* golden.

Smash, I'm onboard with it. Let's join hands across the aisle and make this legislation happen.

On a different note, I always have to laugh at the lack of tolerance on this site. As soon as the Left's sacred cows are being cooked-- at 300 psi and 195 degrees, I might add --the downratings come crashing down. Is it any wonder all the funny posters have left this place? Other than the rare individual such as Smasharoo (who can still make me laugh and fortunately is able to laugh at himself as well) this place is as funny as a Communist Chinese self-criticism conference.

As for the rest of you, in the spirit of this thread, keep a lid on it, willya?

I apologize for starting that other thread. When I saw "libs", I thought about Liberia. I didn't know that was in reference to "Liberals".

Nah, it's just that it's not funny. I don't rate threads, at all, really (and didn't here), but you need to take this show to Daily Kos or something, it doesn't really play here. I think the the whole "gun control wouldn't help here" thing is perfectly valid, but also lazy. The flu vaccine wouldn't have helped here, either, or seat belts. Life involves risk, that aggregate risk can be lowered by legislation. We should do that when we can balance personal liberties. You can't drive after drinking 20 Coors, or whatever you people drink (Zima?), not because it's bad for you, but because it's bad for me.

Besides some sort of restriction on amassing gunpowder, I don't see how any sort of regulation could have prevented a random bombing. If this was a shooting, a reasonable restriction on large capacity magazines & assault rifles might be a reasonable response.

You won't even give us background checks. Yes, I think before a father gives his son a gun they should make sure he's not crazy and/or an ex con.

Republicans and Democrats worried about re-election in conservative areas won't even give us that.

Oh, I thought he'd said that *he* was a moderate liberal, hence all the laughter. You expect me to read all his drivel? I just glean all the (relatively) relevant bits from you and Smash's responses.

Why assume one would and the other wouldn't though. That's the inconsistency that some of us are trying to get folks to see. Most people grasp immediately that regulations on cookware wont prevent someone who wants to use cookware to kill people, but a whole bunch of people fail to grasp the exact same issue when it comes to gun control. Which is the point.

Who's "they" though. That's the sticking point, isn't it?

Which suggests that the claims of 90% supporting the amendment are wrong. If that were true. If that were remotely close to true, and your assumption of members voting in order to not **** of voters in the next election is also true, then the measure should have passed easily. Which means one of two things:

1. The estimates about how popular the measure is was greatly exaggerated.
2. A whole bunch of Senators know their own constituents less well than whoever is spouting that 90% figure.

I'm going with option 1 myself. So can we stop pretending that this was as overwhelmingly popular with "the people" as the media talking heads keep trying to make it out to be?

Going way out on a limb here, but think a whole bunch of people aren't convinced there's any practical use for a firearm besides killing, so don't see it as a valid comparison...

Anyway, you know, strawman and stuff. Smiley: rolleyes

That's a fallacy that pro gun people create. If there were an increase of crimes where people were using a specific piece of cookware to kill mass people, there would at a minimum, be discussion to regulate that piece of cookware. That holds true for everything, to include fire arms. Just think about medicine for example. When society found out about people getting high off of certain medicine, what happened? Regulations were put in place. This isn't new. People, like you, try to make it seem that it's some how special with fire arms.

That argument was so well thought out and worked so well during the election, too.

Your deformed point.

There was one deadly crime with a pressure cooker. Can you prevent that crime with regulation maybe, but why would you even attempt it?

There were over 30,000 people killed by guns in this country in 2011. Can regulation reduce this number - dam straight it can.

If they wanted me to get a background check and register to buy a pressure cooker, I wouldn't care. I already do that to buy sudafed. And I doubt most cooking enthusiasts would care either, beyond the minor inconvenience.
