Frostbite Falls may need to be redubbed Tickbite Falls.

Maines mooses are doing ok but they're scarily dying off across the northern mid-west. Minnesota particularly is facing a complete die-off within a decade.

STORY

What do Moose really contribute to society anyways?

Well, as the moose, lynx and other animals in the southern ranges die off they'll be replaced with the diverse and amazing display of wildlife we have here: white tailed deer and coyotes. And possums, I guess. Do you guys have possums? 'Cause we can offer you possums.

They might have possums in southern Maine, as we have them in Mass. I've seen two. Nasty looking little ********

I saw the occasional possum (usually dead) when I lived down in the southern part of the state. Most frequently along the coast or out on the Islands in Casco Bay.

I've not seen any signs of them up in the mid-coast area where I'm living now. We still have a healthy bobcat population around here though. I bet they eat possum.

You hit them with your car and die; other than that not so much.

Always good to keep the moose loose. Nothing scarier than a tightly wound 1500lb animal rampaging the local school yards.

Many in my office dragged themselves in late today after last nights ballgame. All those with youngsters have started clearing out for the day. It's quiet - eerily so. It's dark outside for being 1pm. The power is going to go out any second. I can feel it. Lord knows what might come next.

If anyone else needs afternoon distraction, at 2pm is going to be special live tiny desk concert at NPR site with Neko Case and Eric Bachmann and some other names I don't recognize.

Edit: Lol, I was told my last name, my married one, used to have an O' in front of it. It got dropped just like the old possums.

What would Dorothy ever have done without her O?

Some of you can attest that I've personally handled possum in the past month or so. They're not exactly rare up here.

white tailed deer and coyotes.

You could offer them people who make eye contact with strangers. You are far enough west for that to be a thing that would be seen as normal, I'd imagine.

A butterbar shot a deer on the range yesterday. these deer are deaf and retarded, but the installation CO happens to like them so they are strictly off limits. Poor kid was crying, thinking she was going to jail over it.

Probably didn't help telling her she was going to jail for it.
