A piece of my job entails that I interpret federal regulation and insure we're in compliance.

One of our administrators has asked that all my work be 'looked at' by a 'guy' from our labor department. I'm not sure why except that I disagreed with him once on an interpretation (it turns out I was right). Oh and I'm an gurl.

I think it's the latter more than anything. I've never had the quality of my work or my ability to successfully perform my job questioned before. There has not been any kind of incident that precipitated this new level of redundancy and oversight. Just a new man on the job that happens to be above me in the hierarchy (though not directly above me).

Some of the other girls around here have also mentioned he's been dismissive of their opinions or concerns, though I don't think it's been grievous enough that any of them would actually file a complaint. I've had fantasys of doing so though. Of course in my waking dreams some butch judge slams a gavel down, barely missing this guys feeble little fingers and declares 'guilty'. Then orders the guilty guy remove all the lint from my sweaters and clean all the hair from my hairbrushes for the remainder of his term. It would probably be a short-lived deal as this guy will hopefully be booted before the end of next year when the administration gets swapped out.

I've never made trouble of this sort before. You get labeled as a trouble-maker and that label never goes away. Still the grievance process does work and usually provides some sort of relief to the individual who's been treated wrong.

Ok, now that I wrote it all out, I guess I'd only be filing a grievance to get back at this dude and not to necessarily make my work better.

Nevermind....

Try becoming a grrl. Or, if that's not enough a riotgrrrl. That might scare him into respecting you.

If, after having all your stuff reviewed, everything is perfectly in order, I'd file the complaint. Not as a complaint with the intention of actually getting him in trouble, but just as a "Hey this dude made me go through an unnecessary audit which was probably a waste of resources and I cannot think of a valid reason why.'

That way, if he does something vaguely harassing again, it's on the record that he's a jerk.

You could try the silly approach and just ask him why he's asked your work to be double checked. At least, you should exhaust that avenue before complaining or going over his head. It would be embarrassing for you to build up this huge anger about this, only to find out that he was told to do this by someone higher up in the chain.

That's ******* crazy. Crazy enough that it might just work.

that or put deliberate obvious errors along the lines of "the report clearly states that the concentration of <Hey jerkwads that are supposed to be checking my work, did you read this part?> things to part 1 ratio is clearly over the..." and then call them on it when their checker misses them and tell them to go **** themselves.
