This is the outsourced help center? Where do I go to have my account deleted? I looked under all of the settings and such but figured this would be the place to find answers. If one of you helpful peeps could point me in the right direction that would be peachy.

Thanks in advance!

Sammy

A place named after a mental institution is the first place I'd look too. Smiley: wink

Try here, or PM an admin.

I'll give that a try. You'd have thunk there'd be a mindless method. And as for asking here? Anyone here pretty much knows all there is about Zam.

Thanks SPG

They don't delete accounts. Best they'll do is tell you to change your password to a random string so you can't log back into it.

Well customer service abounds here. Admin Kao already told me I can't delete my account so I'll be on this forum from here on out until they figure this out. I'll try to post daily to keep all of you in the loop. I love you all and I mean that. *muh*

There is not, and never will be a "delete account from tables" option. The closest to that is a ban, but even that leaves the account intact. Actually deleting things from a relational database is usually a very very bad idea. You can of course always set your account to a fictional e-mail address and reset the password to render it nonfunctional.

I demonstrated the ban function on your sockpuppet by the way so you could see the effect of that.

Wouldn't it just be easier to do whatever you did on a sock across the board? Are you just trying to drag this out?

I don't get why people get so desparate to delete their accounts. If you're done with ZAM can't you just not come back?

Because if I ban a large account it leaves holes in past threads so I try to avoid that.

Pensive got himself banned on purpose. I'm sure it's easy enough. It's a bit rough on poor Kaolian though. He won't ban without an actual bannable offense and those that qualify either make him truly angry, disgusted, ill, or frightened. Think of the poor Kaolian and change your password to a random string you don't write down!

I didn't know I was "a large account". Sure it's easy to simply not log back in. There is just more significant closure when you shut something down, anything, even a Conoco credit card. I was able to cancel that card, just not this one apparently. Now I'll have to worry every day that the NSA will get their hands on my past posts. They're already shadowing me in game. Prolly here too.

I was just kidding about daily updates. But y'all knew that.

Cheers.

So, you know nothing about databases and you have no self control. Fascinating, really.

I'm dealing with a sample size of maybe a half dozen but I don't think I've ever used a forum where you could delete your account. I'm always a little surprised when other people are offended to find out that they can't.

All forum software has this capability. It's trivial to implement and obviously necessary in some cases. Forum owners and administrators refuse requests to delete accounts because the act of posting provides them with content which they now own, and in most cases, hope to derive revenue from. The precedent that users' posts are actually owned by the users and not the forum owner is the problem and the reason such requests are generally ignored. If you're really motivated about it, I'll write you a pearl script to edit all of your posts to include spam and racial epithets. Your account will be deleted in no time.
