The latest exploit in the obstructionist's took kit....

In regards to a nomination hearing for a federal judge:
Quote:
Republicans on Wednesday invoked the so-called two-hour rule, which prevents committees from holding hearings more than two hours after the Senate has convened for the day without the consent of all senators. The Senate convened at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and the hearing had been scheduled for 2:30 p.m., according to staff members for Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the committee chairman.

I think this is akin to waiting 1/2 hour after a meal before going in swimming???

Does the senate get to convene at 10am whenever they want?

I'm imagining a giant book full of 200 year old rules just waiting to be brought up at random times. Keeps things entertaining at least? Smiley: rolleyes

Yes, without the "10am" part. They're not required to convene at all, really. There's limited power granted to the President to force them to do so in "extraordinary" circumstances. (US Const - article 2, sec 3)

In other words, they're paid to work only when they really feel like it?

They're paid to represent, not to work. They didn't choose congresslife, it chose them.

I imagine they're paid even if they don't feel like it.
