Periodically I like to take a look at data that's gathered about mundane things I do that I don't think about much. With that I give you:

5 Songs Smash Listened To the most in 2013 (not necessarily what I'd put on a best list, but what I actually listened to) :

5. The Kids Don't Stand a Chance - Vampire Weekend (not sure why, it's an old song, but in a lot of playlists, I guess)
4. Macklemore - Thrift Shop
3. Numbers On The Boards - Pusha T (only when Nexa isn't around, she's probably googling it as we speak)
2. Diane Young - Vampire Weekend
1. Royals - Lorde

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

It seems I rarely listen to much multiple times, but some music I've discovered this year that I like...

Cold Specks (my favorite newly discovered music)
Typhoon
Okkervil River (not sure I spelled that right)
Tallest Man on Earth's new album
Bastille

Hubby's been playing Lumineers an awful lot lately - he's a bit behind on things.

I've only recently become aware of Vampire Weekend, but I like them.

I went hunting through my youtube subscriptions and quickly realized most of the songs I thought of I heard in 2012, so I guess 2013 hasn't been a big year for music with me.

This band is one of my newer finds.

Movies I actually watched in 2013:

Iron Man 1 (still haven't seen 2 or 3 in their entirety)
The Avengers
How To Train Your Dragon
Good Burger (against my will)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carey edition, also against my will, damn airplane)

Yeah, I don't watch movies very often. I'll probably get around to Thor next year. Maybe.

Elephant Head is a great song. No idea what it's about; it just sounds beautiful.

My top 5 podcasts listened to this year:
1. Comedy Bang! Bang! - it's very different from, and much better than, the TV show on IFC, if that's been your only exposure to it. Basically, a fully improvised show with great UCB-style comedians, sometimes as themselves, sometimes playing a character being fake interviewed. Never know what direction a show is going to take.

2. Who Charted? - kind of a meta entry here, because this podcast counts down top 5 lists from the week (movies, music, etc), and discusses them humorously. The host, Howard Kremer, is delightfully neurotic and strange.

3. Jordan, Jesse, Go! - this is another one of those "two dudes talking about random stuff" podcasts, but it's really great.

4. Risk! - self-described as "a place where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public." A large number of them involve public embarrassments and sexual misadventures, if you're into that sort of thing.

5. Analyze Phish - if you don't want to get deep into a podcast with hundreds of episodes, this one has only 5. Harris Whittels, comedy writer and Phish superfan, tries to convince his skeptical friend that Phish is actually a good band. With mostly disastrous results.

Well, since you started with music and I'm unoriginal, my 5 most-listened-to new albums from 2013.

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends
Orphaned Land - All is One
Dave Douglas - Time Travel
Four Tet - Beautiful Rewind
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks

Top 5 Children's T.V. theme songs that got stuck in my head this year:

Thomas and Friends

Who doesn't like trains?

Ni Hao Kailan

Super!

Bob the Builder

Lofty is awesome.

Peg+Cat

Way too cute. Cat makes me laugh more than I'll admit to.

Reading Rainbow

This one came from their new app for the ipad not the T.V., but wins because it's something that brought back too much nostalgia while it was stuck in my head. Smiley: lol

Trying to share your misery Protein?

Also, best album of the year is undeniably Steven Wilson's The Raven That Refused To Sing, but only because Baroness' Yellow & Green was released last year. I don't think there's 2 bands/artists I've listened more to than those over the past year.

Not intentionally. Smiley: lol

Just came to the realization I hadn't listed to enough new music to make a top 5 list. Then it was like, what the heck do I listen to? The same CD of 18 children's songs? B-I-N-G-O and bingo was his name-o! Yeah, I don't need a list about that. What does play in my head all day?

Oh right... Smiley: rolleyes

I started kayaking this year.

Can't think of anything else interesting. That in itself isn't very interesting either, actually.

Start listening to Steven Wilson, Baroness and The Flower Kings. They make awesome music although Baroness is loud enough that it's definitely not for everyone.

You need more and better kids music.

5 kids music collections

Fred Penner - The Story of Blunder (this story song has goblins in it!), The Cat Came Back
Carmel Quinn - Patrick Muldoon and His Magic Balloon
Raffi - Baby Beluga
Peter Paul and Mommy
Burt and Ernies Greatest Hits

Also Tom Paxton's The Marvelous Toy (he was anti-toy guns in 1965).

True that. My local marina just happens to be on the Hudson River. Already been to a local island which is a popular camping/picnicking site; next year I hope to go check out a lighthouse or two and maybe Bannerman's Castle.

Just be careful to avoid some of their naughtier stuff. The performance I went to a few months ago was 18+ only and turned out to be laden with profanity and dirty songs. Smiley: laugh

I think their children's performances are released on separate albums.

Things you can do at the Y, ranked:
7. Have a good meal (ugh, dorm food)
6. Start back on your way
5. Hang out with all the boys
4. Have a good time
3. Get yourself clean
2. Make real your dreams (redundant: the previous 5 cover this.)
1. Whatever you feel

New things I tried this year:

1. Gave a random lady a ride home from the hospital.
2. Snorkeling.
3. Befriended a couple of "former" meth-heads.
4. Called the cops on a domestic disturbance involving said "former" meth-heads.
5. Lived in fear of danger to my family from said "former" meth-head's abusive boyfriend that I called the cops on.
6. Started working from home.
7. Drove a 1400 mile round trip in a rental car with just my dog and myself.
8. Had said rental car accidentally put into neutral while doing 85 mph on the interstate by said dog.

Should have rented a car the dog was more comfortable driving.

I've never met a dog that could drive a automatic transmission. Dogs, they're all about the stick.
