The thing is, it is of course correct that collecting more data would likely prevent "the next 9/11" whatever that means. Police states are generally very safe, other than the threat posed by the police, obviously. The current compromise of "listen to everything act on almost nothing" is really probably as utopian as it gets from here on out. Technology scales quickly, people adapt slowly, governments don't voluntarily go dark once they have an information stream. The best outcome for everyone is opacity, really.

Disclaimer:

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?

So their response to the fact that what they're doing is generally not well liked by...well...anyone, is to do it even more to a greater extent?

I'm at a loss as far as how to express my feelings about that...

The only response I can think of is in the form of a poem my father wrote when I was a child:

Idiots and their mittens
Are always there to find
Pissing in the corner, stealing from the blind
They never drop the toilet seat, they park in private places
They move about wearing idiot hats and idiot grins on their faces.

Idiots and their mittens, are everywhere to see
Spitting on children's popsicles and eating all the brie.
They always talk at movies, and wear a bad cologne
Put sticky labels with their name on everything they own

Idiots and their mittens, they might live on your block
Standing in their picture windows showing you their c*ck
They make the laws you do not heed and break the ones you do
If you don't know who I'm talking about, the idiot may be you

And god bless us, everyone.

One of my all time favourite songs. Im not musical enough to know what to call that change, but whenever it goes through that change, I get goosebumps.

I learned something new. Apparently, it is called the bridge. I always thought it was the peak. I wish I was joking.

If you go with the hive-mind option, collecting meta-data on yourself for occasional inspection and analysis is nothing more than self examination - like checking your boobs for lumps.
