One of my co workers at my main job (not anyone from Zam) in the IT shop apperently passed away unexpectedly last night. The guy was maybe in his 40's at the latest. Kind of a wierd day. Smiley: frown

Sorry to hear that, Kao. Did he have a bad heart? It may have been a snow shoveling related death.

Wow, ugh, sorry to hear. That's a little unsettling.

He had a bad heart, replaced valves and bypasses, etc. Turns out it was indeed a heart attack last night in his sleep.

I'm sorry, Kao.

I recently found out that a good friend of mine may have congestive heart failure. She's only 35. It doesn't seem like we should be dealing with these kinds of illnesses or deaths this early.

I'm sorry.

Husband had that happen last week. One of the faculty members was suddenly gone - no warning. The last time he lost a colleague, it was a long and public battle with cancer so they were all better prepared for it.

The last time someone passed away at an office where I worked, it was the security guard. Same deal... heart attack late at night, no warning. He lived alone. Smiley: frown

Sad that he died and all that, but honestly if you've had invasive open heart surgery, dying of heart failure isn't really "unexpected". Unfortunate, though. I mean assuming he wasn't a genocidal psychopath or the like.

The heart surgery was a few years back, so everyone thought he was doing better. Plus he was only about 39 or so, which isn't that old. I don't think he was a Genocidal psycopath. Us IT folk pride ourselves on being equal oppertunity psycopaths and not limiting our unrelenting server patching and machine bluescreening to a specific genome.

Still definitly kind of surreal though. I mean, the guy was just there a day ago.

I had to deal with that at the age of 27 that ended with me needing a transplant. Many things can cause it that people don't connect with heart failure, like pregnancy, viruses that attack the heart(the cold or flu can do your heart in). Three of the people that got hearts around the same time as me were under 30 and one kid was 19 who was affected by a virus like my self. Point of the story is if you get sick go to the doctor no matter how small of a deal you think it is.

Those surgeries leave some serious marks on your body though and I think you always keep the much larger chance of more heart attacks.

That said it is unfortunate and very sad for his family and those close to him, 39 isn't old enough to die.

The worst part of people dying is the "they were just around" feeling. Its taken me up to a few weeks to get away from it. You start to look for them to do something or talk about something and it dawns on you that isn't possible anymore.

A good friend of mine got himself into trouble a few years ago with a perfect storm of bad luck and carelessness: he didn't realize he had a heart murmur, he got his teeth cleaned, and he caught flu.

A very pleasant bout of endocarditis and a valve replacement later, he's doing fine.
