If there were a cause and effect there, as you imply, it would have taken much longer to evince itself.

Hey. Not my fault that the guy rights advocates were right in this case, and the gun control advocates were wrong. That's just how it happened. Maybe they'll win the next one, I guess.

lower than Michigan, which oops doesn't have strict gun control. Curse those facts and their ability to destroy your arguments!

Right about their ability to pick a state with strict gun control and say "See?! Moiders!" while ignoring the more lax states, I guess.

It's a matter of scale. You don't see anyone trying to rob the guy with the fleet of orbital Ion cannons now do you?

Not only would you be ignoring other laws and practices in effect to curve the violence, the unconstitutional claim doesn't follow logic. Why would violence be curved? Because people are now afraid to act in violence because the other person might have a gun? Uhhhhh... Chicago has been deemed as one of the most violent cities in the nation, the assumption has always been that the other person has a gun. If there weren't already so many guns, shootings, murders and overall fear of death in Chicago PRIOR to the change in law, then you would have a point.

Well, no ****. I wouldn't recommend trying to solve a spy problem in your own country with an orbital death ray.

Yeah, I don't think that anyone should pretend that Gbaji meant anything other than "Chicago has so many murders right now because of its gun laws!" when he said "(how's that murder rate in Chicago going btw?)" It's a stock conservative talking point and one you hear all the time on national talk radio. Gbaji had no idea that there was a dramatic drop in 2013 although he'll naturally swear otherwise.

But murder rates were way down in 2013 so it's time to backpedal and say that's all because of the SCotUS ruling. Really? But that ruling was in 2010. And 2011 murder rates were identical to 2010. And 2012 had a huge spike in murders, something like a 15% increase over 2011. So naturally, we should attribute that spike in murders to the SCotUS ruling that overturned the gun ban? That all ignores other things like straw sales right over the city line but that threatens to make this issue far more faceted and complex than you can hope someone parroting platitudes like "an armed society is a polite society" to understand.

In fact, it was that 2012 spike that really helped create the conservative meme and I'd listen to idiots like Hannity and Limbaugh and O'Reilly talk about the Chicago murder rate and its gun ban in the same breath, either ignorant of the 2010 ruling or else just hoping that their listeners were. I think it's pretty obvious that Gbaji was living out their best hopes.

If you let a spy get close enough to a silo to steal anything, they deserve every penny they get. Machine gun equipped units are your friends, as are bunkers!

Gun laws, or gun sales aren't the real problem in this country. The fact that we're a population of belligerent assholes is the biggest factor.

America is a reminder that while it may be a nice idea to ship your misfits and nutjobs off to some place they can't bother you, you probably shouldn't ship them all to the same place.

While that's the "biggest factor", that's something much more difficult to control and ubiquitous around the world. We can't necessarily prevent a person from going crazy, but we can create laws to make it more difficult for that crazy person from having a gun.

Have you forgotten the religious fanatics that landed at Plymouth? Or Oglethorpe's penal colony in Georgia?

I think the Brits only fought to keep us as a colony so they'd have a place to send their criminals and crazies. Australia was their fallback position.
