Because this is a good way to do it. I can't say I've agreed with everything she's said or anything, she is a bit on the fringe at times. Still come on people, death threats aren't cool.

Smiley: disappointed

Edit: Just for people who aren't fond of following multiple links they went as far as finding out her home address and detailing threats to her and her family. So a bit more than the mundane "I hope you die" trolling that happens from time to time.

I'll take the brave stance here of being anti-death threat and against harassment.

This could bump him up to feminazi!

I stumbled across something earlier today saying her latest video was up and actually thought "Huh, and I haven't seen a single thread about it on any of the forums I visit. I guess no one cares any more" and now this. Not to imply that she orchestrated it to revive attention but, hey, silver linings to your rape-death threats and all.

Now that you mention it I had completely forgot she existed up until I saw this earlier today. Smiley: tinfoilhat

I mean not that I had assumed she had stopped or anything, I guess I just got wrapped up in the whole ISIS thing or something. We were supposed to care about that too right?

Considering the shady things she has done over the course of this campaign, I'm willing to go out on a limb and imply it.

I think that for the most part, the issues she brings up are valid, though I don't really like her videos or her personality. The only reason I was aware of her new video before this thread is because Tim Schafer posted on Twitter saying that video game developers should watch it, and hilarity ensued as tons of people tweeted hate at him because they don't like her.

Pretty wild coincidence that now that she's (finally) released another video she's suddenly fearing for her life. I kind of wonder if it's all the people that gave her chunks of money and frustrated at how much time it's been between videos.

Anyway, like last time, I don't find her at all compelling. Her points are generic, has a tendency to take other people's work and not credit them for it, and goes as far as lying. She's a misogynist, not a feminist.

Yeah, really amazing. She went from being considered a laughing stock by both the gaming industry and the gender studies world to being considered a threat worthy of felonies RIGHT WHEN SHE NEEDED PR. How unfortunate for her.

Zoe Quinn: Prime suspect, clearly.

Meh, Zoe Quinn is just a symptom of the larger problem with gaming journalism.

Well, I'm sure the number of harassing messages goes up when she puts up a new video. So it stands to reason that she could get especially noxious ones then. Whether she legitimately feared for her safety or legitimately thought the police needed to be involved in this one only she knows. Making it public was, of course, completely her choice.

I agree about her not being compelling. From her usage of uncredited "Let's Play" Youtube footage for games she supposedly played in the process of making the video to her obviously cherry-picking examples and dismissing counter-examples as irrelevant to the basic fact that her videos are poorly written and painfully dull, she's a terrible emissary for her cause. She'd have been better off using the money to pay someone else to write/narrate the videos but she obviously wants to be the face of this mission.

But, to re-state the obvious, none of that excuses harassment, threats and that sort of behavior.

Journalist being bought for better reviews of their games. Zoe is just an extreme example, but it's pretty damn common that companies threaten to pull advertising dollars from magazines over negative reviews, and journalists have been fired over it.

Commonplace? It's almost impossible to find negative reviews of AAA games.

Are game reviews really "journalism"? I wouldn't have ever considered TV, film or music critics to be journalists. Yeah, of course I want their reviews to be sincere but "gaming journalism" in my view would be actual news of the industry, not what games some guy likes.

I mention is because the whole review thing is always No 1 on everyone's list of complaints about "gaming journalism". It just sounds like false gravity -- I care about shoddy journalism when being told about who's bombing who or what guys were involved in the new trash collection city contract. Getting worked up about how legitimately excited some dork is over Laser Lemurs III doesn't ring the same bells.

Which is why we have sites that offer customer reviews. Because "this game is more fun than sex with a ******* emu" is all gamers really need to know in order to drop $60 on something.

I think his point was that man is a banal creature, and to most of the bourgeoisie, finding out they spent $60 on Sim City and it sucks is far more of a blow than finding out they were lied to about invading another country or the like.

I think Joph finally pinpointed what I didn't like about her videos. While she has no problem finding evidence for all the wrongdoings, she doesn't make much effort to praise anyone who actively avoided what she's complaining about and did it right.

All sticks and no carrots.

Way back when she listed all her videos, the last one (No. 13?) was supposed to be about games that did it "right".

So, you know, just hold out until 2027 when she would have to get attacked by robotic dick-gorillas to get a mention on Twitter v3.0 and you'll get to see the whole picture.

The issues she talks about are real but dear god do I not want to watch her videos, content aside they're just less interesting than reading a dictionary.

That said, I was looking for some reviews about Divinity and when I got to the comments of one review I found a whole discussion about how the Ad/promo art being changed was censorship and the complainings of femi-****'s or on the other side of the coin how that one image (that was changed a year before release) meant that someone just couldn't buy the game anymore because it was obviously sexist.
