I'll try not to link spam you all tonight since people didn't like that. That said, here's one. If you want to follow the trail of it, it's up to you. TB posts a rebuttal to Youtube Nation telling him he doesn't understand GG.

Amusing: Initial video that started it all failed to disclose that the person they were relying on for much of their info is actually working on a game with ZQ, which suggests that their may be a bias. No reason not to use her as a source just because she is likely friends with someone she's talking about, but it should still be disclosed.

Well, her name is pretty toxic, so no real surprise people wouldn't want to associate themselves with it.

Trying to force conformity on someone who doesn't fit the mold by disguising it as a women's rights issue apparently? Not bad, it's non un-clever, I'll give it that much. Smiley: rolleyes

I remember in those early days, in my haven, if someone was rude or tried to bully me, the people around me would pounce with a resounding "How dare you be mean to someone we like!" Now, if a man behaves badly, we're bogged down with a much more complex thought process: "Did this happen because she's a woman?" "Am I white knighting if I step in?" "Am I a misogynist if I don't?" "What does this say about women in technology?" "Do I really want to be part of another gender politics mess?" It was so much simpler when we didn't analyze so much, and just trounced on mean people for being mean.
Someone is about to have a Frozen moment methinks. I'd like to believe you eventually reach a point where the crazy stops bugging you when they fail to get results. They're after change and it's incredibly unsatisfying when they don't get it. Yay for passive-aggressive stuff? Thankfully (or unfortunately) there's plenty of other fish in the sea for them, and someone's going to bite, then they can have fun ******** with their life for a while. Though I suppose she can't hide from it really, which obviously gets grating after a time. A guy can stand up, take flak for it, then disappear back into anonymity when it's all over. That was totally a train-of-thought paragraph...

More on the Nick Denton "astroturfing" thing. I honestly have no idea whether I believe it or not. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me, but at the same time it's completely insane. On the other hand, it seems like insane has become the new normal. Edit: Moments after writing that last sentence, I ran across this. Huh.
It's looking like it's not true. Or at least, there's some drama going on regarding the source. I've been looking through it and can't be sure yet whether he stopped at the first word of "Trust but verify" or whether he got overzealous and made things up. Obviously the latter would be worse and I'm not cool with that.

This is great example of why GG has no leaders. Sometimes egos get big and people do things they shouldn't. If it were a leader doing this, it could seriously hurt the movement. But since it's just a member, albeit a vocal one, damage should be minimal. I was dubious but hopeful, so it sucks that it seems to be false, but it's fine. We'll keep pushing.

If I find out more, I'll let you know.

Edit: I swear, only edit I'm going to add that doesn't have anything to do with the previous portion. But David Pakman has another interview up. This time with a feminist who seems rather fair to GG, despite having some major conflict with some specific members of GG. If you don't want to watch her interview, she put up a rather good recent article. I don't agree with everything written, but I don't have to agree with everything said to link it.

Reminds me of a friend of a friend who was going to go to Cuba with some Communist group to do some charitable thing, giving musical instruments to school children or something.

Anyway she ended up not being allowed to go because she was the wrong kind of Communist.

My reaction to that was, "Wait, so there are like six of you left in the world and you STILL can't get along?"

Yeah, it's mostly what I thought from the sounds of it. He wanted it to be true and ran with it like a nub before verifying. He was also being a drama-llama. I've had guild fights that got way worse than this crap. Info on KingofPol's source issues starting roughly around 15 mins in.

Since there was an earlier poll, I don't know that that'll work.

Not GG-related, but we've talked about SWATting in here before, so here's a link to a story about a Bungie Exec who found himself with a police chopper over his house.

I went with purged, in the same sense that I believe a day out of the year set aside to let people commit any crimes they wanted would be an overall improvement to society as a whole.
