Facebook recently decided to offer up egg-freezing as a benefit to their female employees. Apparently this is a Silicon Valley thing.

The offer can be viewed a couple different ways:
- it simply offers women more choice as to when to have kids.
- it sends a message to the tech worker that family and career don't mix.

Regardless of how it's viewed by those in the biz or society in general, what I find kind of interesting it that we are essentially, but artificially expanding our generations.

What kinds of impacts could you imagine if it were the norm for kids to be raised in homes by middle and upper middle-aged parents?

If you had eggs and were in a position to save them for later use, would you?

I'll be 57 when my son graduates high school. If we have another kid, I"ll be in my 60s. It's a little weird to think my parents were 29 when my youngest sibling was born. On the other hand for my peer group in our upper class town, I'm about the median dad age. Having kids when you're 25 is a poor person thing these days.

Being a father to a toddler was a hell of a lot easier at 28 than it is at 41.

Probably a good time to buy stock in turkey basters.

They'd have a lot more resources, but statistically children of older parents are less healthy and slightly less intelligent. So, slightly worse nature, slightly better nurture. Also probably less stressed parents. I certainly didn't have time to raise a kid when I was 25. I barely had time to keep a plant from dying.

Fun Fact: I still have a houseplant I bought in college. It's significantly older than either of my children. Heck, it could probably qualify for a discount on its auto insurance by now.

The eggs frozen when the woman is still youngish, should off-set some of the 'nature' issues of old people having kids.

There's a moral to this story.

My fake plants died because I forgot to pretend to water them. Smiley: frown

I bought myself a parrot. The parrot talked. But it did not say, "I'm hungry,"........ so it died

Yeah, that's true. Plus, it's Facebook, so I imagine the female employees are constantly jacking off 18 year olds for potential future insemination.

Nah, they're too busy calling each "hon" and commiserating over made up problems/bragging about made up relationships.

I have no idea what alchemical process takes place that turns 87.3% of female Facebook users into 40-year-old Midwestern waitresses, but it happens.
