Honestly, back when I had Dish weather rarely messed with my service. It had to be really bad weather-wise to disrupt my signal.
It happened to me a couple of times, but maybe they knew I was in the South. When you're in the South, the power goes out ahead of the storm and snow flurries closes down the city.

One thing I notice about these DVRs: I don't know if it's the same across all cable companies, but the DVRs at Charter are third party (Motorola). I looked up the user manuals for them from Motorola directly, and boy are there some nice features on them that seem to be turned on/off by the cable company. Like the Motorola HD DVR boxes appear to have the ability to share and stream their recorded videos across a local network to other DVR and Standard HD Boxes, if turned on. And from what I read Charter used to offer that as their "whole house DVR" service. But stopped doing so in favor of a "4 DVRs for the price of one + a fee". It makes me sad when my DVR in my room has a show on it that is not on my DVR in my living room and I can't watch it in the living room :(
I noticed this when trying to turn on closed caption. There was literally a "code" that I had to punch in to get into a "secret" menu to turn it on.
