NYT is reporting that Trump plans to fire Bannon. Can't a Nazi sympathizer get any respect these days?

Certainly not in Illinois, Elwood.

The reason I'm not all Smiley: yippee about that is, apparently Bannon has been the moderate voice re: North Korea. Hard as it is to give the man any credit, that's what I've heard.

It's been amusing watching the reactions from the right. Hearing "I have no idea what is going on anymore" and "we've had quite the attrition rate over the last 7 months." Will be interesting to see how this works itself out over the next few days once the spin engine starts going, but loyalties seem to be divided at the moment.

Aren't you at all curious what would happen if the US just went crazy and attacked NK? I know I am. What would China do? What would Russia do? What would 三胖Kim do?

Hopefully with Bannon gone the US can get this madhouse back on the rails.

Morbidly curious, but my survival instinct can easily quash that curiosity.

In non political topics...

I had a strange physiological event today. I was at work, and suddenly my eye sight looked like I had stared at a bright light or been exposed to a camera flash suddenly. A bright spot burned into my retinas. But it didn't go away. And it was in both eyes. If I closed my left eye, I saw it in the lower right field of view. If I closed my right eye, I still saw it in the lower right field of view.

Glasses on, off, eyes open, closed, left eye, right eye, it was always there. And it lasted for about an hour.

Seems ok now. But it was a very sudden, very strange, first of its kind, vision blur.

I bet it's cancer.

Stare at the eclipse until you go blind. You're going blind either way and it's a better story than "I saw a bright light like a camera flash".

Alternately, you died and that was your soul leaving your body. 50/50 either way.

I learned today that apparently even up here in Michigan, we'll get a large portion of the sun eclipsed. I had not paid attention, thought the narrow band across the US were the only people that would see anything. But it's supposed to be something like 80% coverage.

More likely migraine. Some people get the visual disturbance without the headache.

You know who could probably tell you for sure? A doctor.

What could a "Doctor" tell me that a dying forum with 6 active users couldn't? Smiley: oyvey

A reliable source has evidence that Trump has the senior staff play some kind of Russian roulette (non-lethal) every Thursday evening and the loser gets booted from the administration on the following Friday. I personally cannot confirm these allegations, but I believe them to be true.

Well, it's nearing peak eclipse time here in my town. It's very cloudy and overcast though, so it really just looks like it's about the rain (light-wise).

About 15 minutes until peak coverage. Looking at the sun with a welding shield from work and for how bright it is still outside, there is not a lot of sun left behind that overcast cloud. Internet says 80% coverage in this area. Looks like a a waxing crescent moon through the shield.

It was barely overcast. And the world didn't end which means 'm gonna need a pretty good excuse for all these dead bodies.

I took a road trip down to Carbondale, IL and enjoyed 2min+ of totality. Got lucky and the clouds moved out of the way for the big event. Super cool and everyone saying that there's nothing like totality was right -- even once the moon moved to allow the first dot of light escape (the "diamond ring") it instantly brightened up again. Which was sort of impressive on its own that a single dot of sunlight can make that much difference.

The 11-hour drive home (that should have been 5-6 hours) was less fun with an extra 70,000+ people on the roads and highways.

We enjoyed our 99.8% or whatever it was at my house, totality was about 3-4 miles south of us. Would have been cool to see it go all dark and whatnot, but that had to be balanced against the laziness factor. Still it was fun sitting in lawn chairs on the front porch and watching everything get dark. Family came over and a good time was had. As a bonus my niece was thoughtful enough to leave me with a cold, so I got to take an extra day off of work while that cleared up.

Among the better birthdays I've had. Certainly beats the time I didn't get to win the prize in the egg carrying contest because it was my party and everything.

Still bitter. Smiley: glare

If this ***** going to happen, it had better happen soon before I move to the other side of the continent. Deadline is 12 months.
