Yes. Every story I saw about that pointed out that it was linking to an AP article. Way to sleuth it out, though. So interesting!

Which would be an odd thing to suspect. Let's see.... A proponent of the tax reform, seeking to find examples of how well it's working to improve people's lives and paychecks, finds an article with three quotes and deliberately picks the lowest one? How do you "not read" the article and come up with that? Again, a far more likely explanation is that he originally included all three examples, but when he was attacked on the one, he deleted the whole set (more likely his staff did both btw). Or maybe someone didn't see the "." in $1.50 and thought it was $150/week (which would make it the largest amount of the three). Or the original contained a link to the full article, and whomever put it there, just picked one example at random and didn't think about it beyond that.

Not being able to see the original, and not knowing what other content or context was surrounding it, I can't say. Again though, I think it's a silly thing to jump on. Perception versus reality. OMG! Ryan thinks $1.50/week is a huge gain? Um... No. I'm reasonably certain he doesn't. And said gain isn't representative of most people in any case. And is that worse than Pelosi calling $1-2k bonuses "crumbs"?

One of these is most likely an honest mistake, or just not thinking about optics, but while getting the actual policy right. The other is just plain out of touchness *and* getting the policy and position completely wrong. I'll take the reality of lower taxes over the perception of a tweet any day.

I got something like 33 dollars more per week in my paycheck due to the tax changes. That'll come out to 1,700 dollars, so, not a laughable amount.

I have a zero dollar increase due to the tax changes so I'm worse off than a school secretary!

The funny thing is, the "cherry picking" was done by Ryan. His tweet was:...with a link to the AP article. Pretty much everyone (including said secretary) is baffled by the fact that THAT'S the example they picked to go with from the article. I guess Ryan or his lackey just saw "school secretary" and figured "This will play well with those rubes!" and ran with it.

That reminds me, I need to look at that paycheck change when they finally go through here and see how my withholdings shake out.

Well, at least that isn't completely heartbreaking.

That'll be my excuse. They called/texted/emailed me at 7:30pm last night and I missed it until I checked my phone in the morning. So I'll just say I was participating in the temporary government shutdown (ignore the fact that I work in the private sector...).

At least it was something easy they fixed themselves. They were just in panic mode (as usual) cause it's important stuff. So rather than looking at it themselves they just say "OMG IT'S NOT RUNNING! CALL SOMEONE NOW!".
