Beck is a superb musician.

Beyonce is immensely popular.

Beck responds. No one cares about the Grammys (or any industry's awards for that matter), so I figure Kanye is getting paid to stir the pot.

The fact that you wrote a poorly written statement to decry what you perceive to be a poorly written statement is quite relevant with regards to the pot meeting the kettle.

Down boy. I didn't 'decry' a poorly written statement.

I merely said that the statement in question was poorly written and could be misunderstood. I'm a horrid writer. I've never claimed otherwise.

Right. What someone needs to explain to Yeezy is that Beyonce is a black woman, and, critically: people can *see* her. If she looked like Taylor Swift she'd win more awards. This fucking insane pretend surprise that she doesn't by white people needs to stop. Beck's a talented guy, he won because voters are racist. These are people who voted for Macklemore over Kendrick Lamar. There is zero chance skin color isn't the most important factor followed distantly by talent or quality.

I lost my post, so I'll hit the high points. Whether or not Smash is trolling, I wouldn't call racism. However, history has shown us that what black people do isn't truly accepted until white people do the same. I was watching my liberal media this morning about Iggy and how she was nominated over other more pronounced female rappers (Missy, EVE, etc.). She came from Australia with a sound very similar to Da Brat with no context of her lyrics. At least Eminem admitted that he was only successful because he was white doing black music and if he were black, he wouldn't be nearly as famous.

How many times did Beck lose to a white person? How many times did Beyonce lose to a black person? Because that would inform a discussion about race. If you want to have a discussion about Beck and Beyonce that's a separate issue.

White people have won the Best Rap album 7 times in the 20 years it's existed, including the last two years. The chances of a black person winning the best country album 7 times in the last 20 years is fucking zero. Not because there are no black country artists, and not because they aren't talented.

It'd be hard to tell by watching the Grammy's. On the other hand, Rap is clearly comprised of a very talented level of white men, then a more moderate level of black fellows.

Based on 3 minutes of searching, she's only been nominated for best album twice. She did lose both times to white people. Beck has also lost twice to a white person. Haven't checked on other nominations beyond Best Album.

Edit: She beat several white people for best song in 2010. That song was "Put a Ring On It". Also, Andrea Bocelli once lost out to Lauryn Hill for Best New Artist, which makes me think the real issue is that the judges don't have any taste in music.
