Nearly one in ten Americans has anger control issues. And access to guns.

I liked this bit: Efforts by HealthDay to reach the National Rifle Association for comment on the study were unsuccessful.

Probably because they were busy banning operable guns at the upcoming NRA convention.

It was a slightly misleading topic title. Visitors with carry permits can carry their own, working, guns. Except at one event apparently taking place in a building that has a no guns policy. Only the guns being sold and traded and on display are not operational

Meh, anger issues.. everything is being sanitized. Do people really think we were less angry before? ****, the moment I am a senior I am getting a lawn to tell people to get off of it. Being angry is a part of the American dream.

I do think there's less emphasis on self-control and more emphasis on having things all your own way than there used to be. I could be wrong, though, as my opinion comes from pop culture and not from any sort of controlled study.

Mine comes from a lot of studies. I won't bore you with the sociology babble, but the upshot is that 'boomers' are the most batshit selfish entitled cohort of people who have existed in modern times. They have, for most of their existence, been the largest group and thus catered to on almost every level. Music they liked became 'classic', their writers became great writers, they were born at the height of American power and cultural hegemony, and even their 'rebellion' was close to a risk free peer reinforced growth stage they paid no penalty for.

They have, as they aged, become more conservative. People do that, it's not unique to them, but they've also seen their collective influence over society dwindle. They no longer get everything they want all of the time. Thus the anger. An entire generation of spoiled children abruptly realizing they might not get what they want in the end is the genesis of this anger. It's what the Tea Party is all about. Why wouldn't they believe if they just band together and say what they want it'll happen? It always has. When it doesn't there is some serious cognitive dissonance happening that further bonds them to idiotic positions they might not even believe without that context of not getting what they want.

There's also the legitimate anger of the generations that come after them. Although people our (my? I forget how old you are) age are more cynical than angry. We missed the height of the easy American Dream: "I graduated from high school, went to work at the plant, joined the union and made enough to buy 4 bedroom house and new cars every 3 years. Why are you kids so lazy?" but, we were around for one of the greatest boom employment markets in history. If you could type and use a mouse in 1995, you probably did pretty well by now. People in their 20s have cause to be actually angry.

Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

More than "slightly misleading". I'd say more "deliberately false". As you mentioned, they play on the fact that most people who read "guns on the convention floor" wont realize that means guns on sale or display by vendors and has no bearing on firearms legally carried by attendees. Additionally, they repeat this assertion that it's the NRA making the rules, when in fact the only place where guns are not allowed at all is the Bridgestone Arena, and that's because the Arena doesn't allow them. Despite this (and an absolute lack of information to support his claim), the author repeatedly suggests that the NRA is somehow afraid of guns or worried about security, thus presumably disproving the idea of more guns making people safer.

It's just a silly article from top to bottom. Hard to think that anyone took it seriously.

Make sure they're not *too* old; there are tons of stories about 98 year old WW2 veteran Navy boxing champs beating the crap out of burglars holding guns on them.

I read this once and was mumbling 'absolutely' under my breath.

Then I read it again just to enjoy the craftsmanship of the writing. Twice.

So, Smash, even though you know I think you're a dick, I doff my hat sir.
