David Duke is running in the GOP primary for the Senate seat in Lousiana:
LA Times wrote:
"I'm proud to announce my candidacy for the United States Senate," Duke said in a video. "I believe in equal rights for all and respect for all Americans. However, what makes me different is I also demand respect for the rights and heritage of European Americans."
[...]
Duke said in the video, "I'm overjoyed to see Donald Trump and most Americans embrace most of the issues that I've championed for years. My slogan remains America first."

The state GOP has denounced his candidacy and the NRSC said they won't support him even if he gets on the ticket.

That strategy worked so well for the GOP against Trump.

Read that Trump's big speech got lower ratings than Romney's did back four years ago. Sort of surprising since everyone was like "OMG this will be so epic!"

Clinton picked Kaine for her VP.

Who's super excited for that Pence-Kaine VP debate, huh? Eh? Eh?

...yeah

Speaks fluent Spanish huh?

Well that's mildly interesting at least. Anti-Abortion is a bit of an odd choice, given how hot-button that issue can be, but he's from a decent state I guess? Do Virginia people like him?

His wikipedia page is so boring, and not one mention of his time in red tights superheroing in Houston.

His mundane-ness is an okay match for Hillary's ... being all over the place-ness at least.

He's fairly popular. conventional wisdom seems to be that he moves VA from "leans Democrat" to "likely Democrat". So, from that perspective, he's a better choice than Pence (if Trump can't win Indiana, he already lost)

Found this little gem while browsing imgur. I hate to say it, but I am enjoying this campaign season.

And there is always Cthulhu...

Poor Kaine, his nomination overshadowed by spam email.

Huh. Having the DNC chair booed off the stage during a prep walkthrough and then having to resign on the day of the start of the convention is probably not the start the Dems wanted. Worse, these emails support the whole "DNC/Clintons/Obama rigged the nomination from day one" bit that many (myself included) have kinda assumed was going on all along. You already had Bernie supporters pissed off about the whole thing. This is probably not going to help.

We'll see in 4 days if the Dems can recover from this. I was honestly expecting to see a rigidly structured convention with nothing allowed to go wrong, and figured that the GOP would play against that as part of their "new wave versus the old establishment" rhetoric, but this may very well make that case even stronger. This whole thing does kinda fall directly into that narrative. Not sure how the Dems will wash over this. I'm sure they'll try though.

Tonight will probably matter a lot with both Warren & Sanders speaking. See how it goes from there.

I know it's a risk, but I think I'll stand pat on that prediction. Smiley: grin

What's the over/under on your "win or place" prediction? Just thinking about getting in on that action.

Are we betting on Clinton to place? Maybe you know something about Jill Stein that I don't.

If we put Stein in there, maybe we have to broaden the bet to win, place, or show? Just to be safe.

Sanders crowd responded well to endorsement. So that's a good sign.

Well, most of them. Not the ones that were going to remain angry regardless of the spam mail. Though admittedly, would have been mildly amusing to get a second Cruz.

Sarah Silverman got herself basically booed offstage, which is pretty much regular for her, and even Sanders got some boos himself, but overall not nearly as chaotic as I'd hoped.

Curiously, last night beat the first night of the RNC for ratings. Maybe everyone was tuning in and hoping for a big blow-up.

Hey, the second place candidate just moved to make the first place candidate the nominee and asked for a voice vote. That's much nicer than "vote your conscience".

Judging from Twitter, the remaining holdouts are squatting in the media center tent and generally annoying the media people who are rapidly shifting from "Ooohhh... easy story!" to "WTF get out of my way you hobo".

I was afraid that the BernieBros were going to make more fuss tonight, glad that was kept to a minimum.

And for the record, I think Sarah Silverman is a rancid, sopping cuntrag. I was not allowed to say that on a friend's post (actually thought I was posting to a random media page).

And apparently I can't say it here either.
