...seen someone die in front of you?

I imagine lolgaxe has, but how about the rest of you?

I could've have comfortably answered "no" until Tuesday. Now I can't say that anymore.Smiley: frown

One of they guys living here (at the Mission) apparently suffered a ruptured aortic aneurysm. This is not a thing I ever wish to witness again. I mean, I'm not squeamish; that isn't the issue. What freaked me out was just seeing the process of sudden death.

Another staff member was doing what he could (which wasn't much, but still) and the ambulance crew was there in under 3 minutes, so I had nothing to do but observe until I directed the ambulance guys to the patient. While working here I've dealt with finding corpses, this was just...other-level weird.

Not to be morbid, but...was it messy? Because this was messy.

Everyone reacts differently. I imagine your workplace has someone you can talk to on staff or on call, so it'd behoove you to take advantage of that. It helped me to find things to keep myself busy with, though there have been some ... complications. For example, if I start reading something I have to complete reading it. 80~ish years of comics takes a while to read, and most of it is shit. Usually about the 90s. I've basically lost the ability to read for enjoyment.

We have such resources but given the type of place I work (Christian-based Rescue Mission, in case anyone forgot/didn't know) the usual suggestion for stress is prayer. That's nice and all but having a mental health guy here is nice, too.

What the frig comic are you reading that spans 80 years?

EDIT: Wait...does the story span 80 years or are you reading 80 years worth of a comic?

I meant 50, finger slipped on the keypad. Amazing Spider-Man (1963 - current I've also read all the extra Spidy books. Spectacular, Web Of, etc etc ...), Invincible Iron Man (Also 63 - current), Captain America (64 - current), Incredible Hulk (62 - current), Daredevil (64 - current) and Uncanny X-Men (huh, another 63 - current). I think those are the longest running ones I'm up to date on. We're not even talking about the shorter books, or what's being released weekly ... but yeah, I just start reading and then don't stop.

His was a brain aneurysm (so not EXACTLY the same I guess) and they managed to keep him alive for about a day before he was brain dead, so no, not messy, outside of the holes they drilled in his head to release pressure.
