I look forward to the gawker reboot, which I assume will be entirely stories about how Seasteading is Terrible.

The one other remarkable thing is that Gawker is now, famously, a Union. So supposedly there might be a lot of Union member writers there decrying Denton, yet no. Zero. Zero articles about telling him to STFU. So I have to wonder what that Union contract was...if employees can't even call out awful owners....

Gawker staff writers stand united behind the integrity and quality of their "news".

How dare you imply that "The Worst Tweets of 2015" is not an example of journalistic excellence.

Gawker now trying to defend its existence by reposting select articles that could be considered news from their multi-site torrent of click-bait slurry.

Yeah, the issue isn't that Gawker hasn't tried "to be likable", it's that most of their stuff is click-bait trash.

There are good writers there, like Evan Narcisse, for Kotaku (and now Io9, and a few others still hanging on...)

But this flailing out article there is just so Denton-Smirk. And so Denton-why-say-anything. He will just smile and smirk to his last dollar and doesn't seem to give a **** about a lot of decent writers (yes, there are some) being out of work due to his intransigence and hubris and stupidity.

Guess what would've taken less money? Settling for say, Hulkster for $20 million or somerthing. Settling now. Settling anytime. No, never. Settling is for losers, or for people who aren't me but instead care about workers on my site, who can't afford me being full of hubris and stupidity.

Most good writers have jumped ship as they saw their boss didn't give one **** about their care/continuing employence. Charlie Jane Anders gone, smartly. Etc.

Gawker is a black hole with Denton at the center. It's sad. If he cared at all about the site he'd immediately resign and settle with all complaitants. That would keep the site alive. Instead he'll grind it into nothingness. And it's also amazing that a few writers there resigned over the decision to redact Jordan Sergeants' blackmail gay outing article. As if that was the hill to die on. Good riddance. Would be a nice site if the owner and wrirters were decent. Again just sad. Just like Television Without Pity used to be good. Or Jumping the Shark. And yet in this case didn't even take a sale to a new owner.

Did I mention that Jezebel and other sites were ordered to focus on this election cycle? And that's why Jez is **** now with 50% politics?

Well, with hard hitting exposés like Donald Trump's $60,000 weave I can't imagine why no one would believe they're a legitimate news site.

When your list of Very Important Journalism articles includes stuff like "Once a half-rotten dead racoon washed up on shore and Gawker was there to cover it!" it might be time to just admit that maybe the world will get along without you.

The note they make about having some of the best-paid writers was sort of a coincidence with talking about Forbes the other day. Forbes gave up any pretense of journalistic excellent online when it went to allowing basically anyone to write clickbait articles for them. It was a huge financial success and they went up like 400% in revenue for the site. A few writers have done very well and been paid a lot (although most make nothing because their articles aren't generating enough clicks to warrant a check so they're getting paid in "exposure"). Anyway, paying a handful of people a lot of money isn't indicative of them actually deserving it as, say, Marissa Mayer could tell you.

Well yes Jez has long been **** due to their writers. But some of them have written important articles about race and such. And female issues. And there was and remains zero other sites who would do any of that. Jez imperfect, surely. Alternatives, zero.

For every ten terrible Jez articles about fashion or ridiculous cultural appropriation outrage, there was often one at least which was valuable to real women, and to anyone else. And there is also an allowance of venting by commentators subject to rape, domestic violence, etc. where that is a place to comment upon and commiserate. No matter how non- or well- researched a topic/article is.

Even if the writers publish 100% BS, then if the commentary is a virtual salve, it's valuable. Once terrible Jez articles are gone [as Denton is an idiot], so too will a lot of commentators try to find a new place. And most will be bereft.

Skepchick for instance? "Shop". "Log in". What is that now? Where is an alternative site for women issues? Just a place for women to talk to each other?

Do tell us what sites/comment sections other than Jezebel are as well-populated by women seeking advice from other women due to harrowing situations. And/or other sites about concerns, re: women issues.

You just need to copy-paste the urls here. Shouldn't be difficult, since that is your claim. To do so. Either... Do so.... Or STFU. If your reply does not include a url then your post is to be ignored.

Facebook, Tumblr for support. Salon, Slate, Vice, HuffPo, etc for articles about gender and race.

You can look up those hard-to-find URLs yourself.

Yoffe was indeed great. A good reason to go to Slate, sad she's gone. It's remarkably coincidental though that you plucked out one word "Slate" of Jophiel's ******** response, to champion. Well, I guess you just really love Yoffe. Or something.

Never daring to call out Jophiel on some BS here...

...just pluck a random thing out to praise...

Whatever. Joph's reply was BS. Agree/Disagree Yes/No/ whatev let's just talk about Emily Yoffe or whatever and not commit to anything. Coward. Poseur.

You've obviously read me wrong. I'm the board's resident anti-feminist. I'm not calling out Joph because I honestly don't give a flip which is better. Jezebel is trash. Salon is trash. He has a point about Facebook. The less I say about Tumblr, probably the better. I have only had a few encounters with HuffPo, not enough to form a real opinion, though I dislike at least one writer from there, whose name I'm drawing a blank on. Pretty much the same with Vice - I don't like what I've seen, but I haven't seen enough to honestly form an opinion.

I used to read a lot of Slate(I started going to read Prudence and would stick around that once a week to check out a few articles). I have a positive opinion of them in general. But I haven't read much since they changed Prudences.

Vice has some reasonably good reporting of stories that wouldn't traditionally get coverage. I think it has value as a news agency.

Jezebel is a great news source for women seeking advice about harrowing situations like "The Time Michelle Bachmann Thought She Was Abducted By Lesbians," "22 Ways the Letters in ‘Republican Party Can Be Rearranged Into Rape Anagrams," and let's not undersell the importance of topics like "Fuck, Marry, Kill: The Romney Sons."

Like 'em or hate 'em, Facebook and Tumblr probably generate a million times more supportive female bonding missives each day than you'll find on Jezebel. It's not as though, if Jezebel drops, people won't have anywhere left to talk to other women and seek support about various topics. Heck, there might be other places as well... I'm not really the target demographic for telling you all the places women go to discuss rape survival. Saying that it's the comments section of a clickbait "news" site or nothing else compares is obviously stupid though.

Vice is good. A bit too idealistic for my cranky old self sometimes but there's a lot of interesting stuff that gets put up there.
