No, but it was my 35 year old wife that made the comment, not my 14 year old :).

Well, I meant in general. You seemed to have an answer for the question when your wife asked.

There's actually a bit of math I use these days that I never would have expected using back in high school. Mainly because, back in high school, I had no idea that I'd be in the job I am today. So I guess it's a good thing they bothered to teach me how to solve the area of a circle even if I thought it was stupid back in 9th grade.

Back in election news:
Political Wire wrote:
Although much has been made about next week’s Indiana primary, Donald Trump now has a clear shot at winning 1,237 delegates even if he does not prevail in the Hoosier State.

Indiana has the second-largest amount of delegate left, with 57 awarded on a winner-take-all basis by each congressional district and statewide. A win would be nice for Trump, but it’s no longer necessary.

Trump did so well this week — especially in winning over the unbound delegates in Pennsylvania — that he bought himself some wiggle room.

Using his delegate simulator, Sam Wang finds Trump now has a 98% of winning the delegates he needs. If Trump loses in Indiana, his chance of winning falls to only 97%.

Also, ex-Speaker Boehner did an event at Stanford with some choice remarks:
Stanford Daily wrote:
When specifically asked his opinions on Ted Cruz, Boehner made a face, drawing laughter from the crowd.

“Lucifer in the flesh,” the former speaker said. “I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a ***** in my life."
[...]
Boehner for the most part accepted Trump as the presumptive Republican nominee, though he did express his surprise at the candidate’s success. While he did not praise Trump’s policies, the Speaker did say he would vote for Trump in the general election if he becomes the Republican nominee. The former Speaker said he would not, however, vote for Cruz.
[...]
At the end of the discussion, Kennedy re-focused the talk by asking Boehner who his political heroes were. In his answer, Boehner re-emphasized his own relatively moderate stances within the Republican Party.

“Well you know I’m a big fan of Ronald Reagan,” Boehner said. “But I love all these knuckleheads talking about the party of Reagan. He would be the most moderate Republican elected today.”

"Why do we need to learn this?" is sort of a dumb question anyway. The answer is because the school's job is to give students a wide range of knowledge in different subjects so they can have the foundation to pick a specific area later in life to focus on. So a chemist may not need to know about Hadrian's Wall and an archeologist may not need to know about covalent bonds but it's the school's job to teach you a little of each so you don't enter college with a remedial understanding of history and chemistry.
I think the problem is that people are leaving college with a wide range of knowledge (and many college spend time advertising themselves as providing that), whereas they're really at the point they should be focusing down on what they're going to do with their life.

It's fine to have a broad education, and it's a good thing, but you have to stop at some point. Eventually you do have to decide on what you want to do, but a college can have mixed motives. I mean if it takes you 2 extra years to graduate because you were middling around doing classes to enrich yourself and have fun that's 2 extra years of tuition they get. They like to be able to say 75% of our graduates get jobs right away, but again, what kinds of jobs are those? These days they're often unpaid or poorly paid internships where people are leaning the basic skills needed to get into the field they want to be in, which makes you wonder what the point of college really was. Add in the fact most people reach their mental and physical peak in their mid 20's you have people wasting what could be some of their most productive years still trying to learn the things they need to know in life.

Clearly Boehner isn't a conservative and was tricked by the liberals into disliking Cruz.

I was referring to high school. If you're in college and taking widely disparate subjects just 'cause, that's largely on you (aside from a few core classes).

Are the Republicans really that impotent that if a Democrat breaks a law, they cant get charges brought on them?

It's not about Republicans. It's the FBI. It's the Justice Department. I'm sorry, I forgot. Who does those agencies ultimately report to? You have one of our political parties that holds a strong "ends justifies the means" mentality, and that party is currently in power in the executive branch of the government. Which is how you get things like the IRS putting conservative groups on eternal hold when applying for non profit status. And you get things like investigations into gun walking programs that go nowhere. And you get things like blaming an attack on a consulate building on a video made by a guy in California instead of the people who actually engaged in the attack. And you get the justice department swooping into local cases involving police shootings for politically motivated reasons having nothing to do with actual justice. And you get an immigration service that is told not to actually do their jobs of enforcing immigration law. And frankly, you get a very long list of executive actions designed to bypass the actual legal processes that our nation is supposed to follow, because the "end" is justified.

In the context of how the Obama administration has wielded executive power, do you honestly think they're going to go forward with indictment of Clinton if they have any means to prevent it? Remember this is the same administration that has blatantly chosen to just not enforce the law, arguing that it's not required to when and where it doesn't want to. Same deal here, right? Whether what she did was illegal isn't the issue in this mindset. It's whether they feel like actually applying the law to her. And that decision wont be based on the legality or illegality of her actions, but how the choice to indict may affect liberal policies. So unless Obama just really wants to ***** over the Clintons (which I'm not entirely convinced one way or the other), will almost certainly result in a decision not to pursue indictment.

Again, not because what she did wasn't illegal, but because the political ramifications to the liberal agenda would be harmful if they did. So they wont. It's really that simple and that corrupt on the left side of our politics.

Oh, sorry. Didn't realize that all of your law enforcement down there was a bunch of ******* lame *** pussies. For a country that's built to keep the 3 layers of government separated from any one group having too much power, you sure don't actually execute on that.

Too be fair, you're getting your information from Gbaji. There have been a number of posts via Fox News and Yahoo where ranking FBI members/sources hint that there's something "BIG" coming and that Hillary shouldn't laugh at the concept of being arrested.

Well, it's win-win if you're Gbaji. Either she's indicted or else you're certain that it's all a Democratic cover-up protecting her.

Politico did a study of past cases involving classified material and found that it would be highly unusual for her case to lead to indictment.

Granted that the DoD is starting to increase the reactions to unintended classified spillages, the status quo is additional training.
