Democrats handily win the VA gubernatorial race, no doubt with a gusty sigh of relief. Currently 52%-47% 53%-46% 54%-45% -- nice, a 9pt win versus the 5pts Clinton got in '16.

Democrats also win the governor's mansion in New Jersey to the surprise of no one after Christie's disastrous term.

You'll probably hear most about Danica Roem of Virginia.

We voted to join the regional fire district and raise property taxes to cover the increased costs. Also to redirect the funding from the no longer needed local FD improvement tax to the city's general fund. Borrowing money to increase job training services at the community college and do some renovations was a no-go however.

Exciting times in small town politics.

Republicans are cool with grown men in their 30s taking fourteen year old girls home to paw at their panties because, you know, Jesus.

Republicans will almost certainly make such a man their next US Senator in Alabama because, hey, he might be a sexual predator who preys on young teen girls but at least he doesn't think homos should be married.

Edit: That's one girl, fourteen years of age and not fourteen girls, one year of age but, let's be honest, it probably wouldn't matter.

Well, this was the olden days where you had to take a 35mm of your junk and then wait ten days for Fotomat to develop it.

Sending girls **** pics took dedication back then. Women really appreciated the hard work and thought put into it. These days with cell phones it takes so little work, there’s just nothing to appreciate now.

Something, something, probably legal in Alabama. Who are we to judge another's cultural values?

I absolutely love how not voting for the guy is apparently worse than his raping children.

Remember that, according to certain people here who may or may not still be around, that unlike those filthy liberals this is the party that quickly and efficiently removes anyone from their ranks should there be even the appearance of impropriety.

I'll never understand that mindset. Maybe there's just not a political party that lines up closely enough with my personal beliefs, so I don't get that emotionally invested. Still the number of people that view voting for <insert party here> as more important than virtually any other quality a person could have is pretty disturbing.

It comes down to how those people are going to vote. People tend to vote on party lines for their representatives, because the same seems to hold true for those representatives.

How many Democrats do you think would vote for someone like Marco Rubio instead of someone like Bill Clinton (while being accused of sexual misconduct) if the two were running against each other? Those may be bad examples, I don't care, cause it's not about the individual... Because good or bad, it doesn't matter what you think of the individual in this political setup. All that matters is how you expect they'll vote when that bill hits the floor. You vote for the other person because they are a great guy... then they end up voting for or against things you are against or for.

Oh that part I get. A lot of people vote on values more than individuals. Expecting someone to give up their highly-regarded principles just because the figurehead that was chosen to represent those values turns out to be a sleezy moron is a pretty big fantasy. Those figureheads can be easily replaced, it's not like everyone switched parties after Weiner was kicked to the curb.

It's the irrational hatred of the "other" I'll never understand. I mean I can disagree with someone all day, but I'm not going to hate them, or kick them out of my life, just because they view some things in life different than me, or vote for a different person than I did.
