Waiting for Fun?Follow

hmm... Anyone else notice the raise in nothingness? Meaning waiting for pty, yet not getting a single invite? wtf? Past couple days, I've wasted waiting for an invite, and gotten nothing! Had not been for my special someone, and some friends, this game would really start to tick me off... I mean, c'mon... why the heck should we 'have to' pty to progress higher?!! The game designers should have made it a bonus to pty, not a requirement! I'm lvl 45 Mnk/Thf, easy preys I 'can' beat, but then usually need healing afterwards (as solo'ing), yet I at most get 50 exp... that's fun... not! or... I can waste away the day(s) waiting for a single invite... hey, even more fun! Stupid, we should still be able to solo, till even lvl 75!!! RPG's have pretty much always been a single player game style, now being online and able to play with others? Great! But HAVING to play with others...? hmm, not so much fun now... dunno, I may be just ranting, but I really think pty'ing should just be a bonus feature and not a requirement for progression... Sorry for the rant, I just hate waiting, and waiting, and waiting... for nothing... And yes, I know of trying to get into static partys to beat the waiting, but again, static partys you still HAVE to play with others... dont get me wrong, i like playing with others! I have many friends and someone that is special to me! But when they can't help because of lvl differences and having to look for pty... less fun is enjoyed... argh...

I feel you, I took a break off partying for my "lvl 40 ouch" to fish and today I put my flag up, now I know why I hated getting a party...

Same sorta thing with Watusa. I saw him fishing on the ferry one time. It felt like a hollywood celebrity sighting.

Waiting sucks, but you can use that time to farm, craft, fish, NM hunt, etc. I set my HP in Jeuno, grab a Scroll of Instant Warp with CPs, set my 'search comments' with {Home Point}={Jeuno} {Warp} ok, put my flag up, and go do my thing.

Even if I never get an invite, I've made some money or upped some crafting/fishing skills.

It really sucks when you really want a pt, but at least you're accomplishing something while you wait.

I know what you mean. I've been trying to level BLM44 for the past few days and next to no invites (apart from the one that disbanded 4 fights in... but it was getting late). Like I've been sitting in Crawlers for the past few hours and nothing ; ;.... it's getting to be peak US time and still nothing... Crawlers is usually knee deep in people by now.

Just a theory: people are back in school and not able to play as much as they did in the summer?

Yes, the school/work thing, but also because of the many other melee/high def jobs out there. I would come to the Dunes, and if I ever got invited, the pt leader would say (if a healer wasn't around) they have trouble finding a healer. Whenever I check the list of who had his/her flag up, it's usually WAR or other melee jobs. I've switched to WHM before... I got an invite in maybe four minutes, whereas WAR, I wait for nearly an hour, and when I get invited, there are other melee's in line waiting.

RNG and DRK have it pretty nice, I think... they're known for being the best DD's around (and BLM, but I'm excluding the wonderful mages atm since you all know we love you anyway ^^).

Truth be told, Square made far more damagers than magic users; those with both are usually called upon for something else.

DMG: RNG, WAR, MNK, THF, SAM, DRG, NIN(I think)
BOTH: PLD, DRK, (BST too, I suppose!), RDM, NIN, SMN
MANA: BLM, WHM, BRD

It's not surprising, but it kinda stinks >_<

Only because of the limitations of the platform they were on. The grandpa of all RPG's (D&D) was never ment to be played alone. When the games also moved to board games they were ment to be played by others as well. But when they were moved to the electronic medium they were single player because it was easier to have one person control all 4,6,8 whatever party members. Early PC RPG games used a keyboard for control and few PC games were multiplayer anyway (2 people side by side). When they hit the consoles they stayed single player for the most part. Having more than two controllers without the need to a "multi-tap" is a pretty recent change. Then thanks to the internet, RPGs have evolved into what the games were supposed to be from day one, multiplayer.

For those in the know, I excluded MOOs, MUSHs, MUDs, etc only to save time explaining what they were/are.
