A Dance with Dragons - George RR MartinFollow

So, after years of waiting, it would seem that the book is finally almost released. Or so it would seem anyway.

Amazon UK gives a release date of April 9th, although I also found October on Amazon USA. A bit odd, also quite disheartening really.

After all, this is only part 5 and given that it has a delay of about 2 years now, this does not bode well for parts 6 and 7.

Many fans (as can be seen at Amazon reviews of this book, odd of Amazon to allow reviews of a book that hasn't been published yet) are quite disillusioned with Martin, they claim he seemingly has lost interest in this series and focuses on his blogs and the series Wild Cards.

I truly hope he hasn't given up on it, even if I didn't really like the fourth book, this tale is so interesting and compelling, that I just have to know how it continues and more importantly, how it ends.

Although Martin himself is still fairly young, 60 years isn't that old these days, he wouldn't be the first writer to die young and leaving series open. Robert Jordan comes to mind first and foremost, but Zelazney is also an example.

Unfortunately, that release date is ********* The book is not done, and probably will not be done for some time. You can see it for yourself at his website/blog.

There is a pilot for A Game of Thrones TV series being produced, though. If it does well, there may be a series on the whole book on the way, so there's something for an ASoIaF fan to look forward.

If it's good, I can wait years. I just hope the series doesn't become bloated to Jordanesque proportions, which A Feast for Crows suggested with the whole "this is a huge book and it's only half of what happened" thing. Honestly there's already enough characters and if he can't keep them moving I'm not going to keep reading, lol.

I'm wary of any fantasy-related TV adaptations, too.

I had a little tiny bit of hope that they could be done well if I only believed hard enough. Then I saw Legend of the Seeker, and that bit of hope died. Smiley: frown

Alas, I got a mail from Amazon yesterday, the release date is pushed back by a full year. It shouldn't be available before October 2010.

And I suppose even that date isn't certain either, a lot can happen in over a year.

Darn it, I want to know what happens next.

There's no official release date yet. First he said he was going to finish it by June. Then he said he expects to finish by September or October. Then on his LJ he posted "Can it really be September?? Ack. I can feel the heat of those flames..." which doesn't bode well...

I know, I was just hoping Amazon's time of October this year would be fairly correct, give or take a month or two, not twelve.

I hate my brother for introducing me to this series, I was like a junkie when I finished that last book lol, waiting to get my next fix. The shakes have finally calmed but I still check his blog everyday looking for news.

I'm hoping that the HBO series will help the book to get out a little faster but on the other hand I don't want a rushed product that feels unfinished. Who knows when the next book will come out once this is released.

The sad thing is that he was supposedly half done with it when he finished "A Feast of Crows" and that was almost four years ago. At this rate whatever the book after "A Dance With Dragons" is called will be finished in about ten years. I'm just hoping the guy doesn't die before he finishes them.

Yes, I suppose I am resurrecting a thread with this, unfortunately I just got a mail from Amazon saying that the book won't be out before October 2011.

This is going to be the book version of Duke Nukem Forever, no doubt about that.

Mind you, I did cancel my order, not that Martin will care but I just don't care about this book either anymore.

Shame, great series, apart from that last book (imo only ofcourse).

Considering I've forgotten everything from the series, I'm less upset about this possibility than I was a year or so ago.

Very true, although the story itself is quite memorable (and definitely worth reading even if not finished), given time, if this book is released, not all that many people will know how it all went.
