I am trying to find the name of an Anime I can vaguely remember watching in my younger days. I don't remember too much of the plot, but it centred around a kid who kept getting scars after some ancestor or ghost of power etc gave them to him. There was an "evil guy" in it who was trying to get this power for himself. I know the plot was really weird, and it was almost more of a history lesson (there was always a voice over about clan X person Y fighting this guy and that guy who was the son of someone blah blah).

Sorry if this is a massively naff description but its all I can really remember of it!

Does anyone have any idea at all what I am talking about?

I don't recall watching such a series, but if you can provide a few more details I might be able to find it through some searching.

You said "younger days," but can you be more specific? Are we talking early 2000s, 90s, 80s, 70s? Do you remember anything about the setting? Was it scifi, modern, historical?

I dont think it was a series, just a movie or a feature length thing. I watched it at some point early/mid 90s on the Sci Fi channel. Setting was modern but with fantasy elements (like ghosts/spirits, magic, but presented in a "well its always been around but everyone forgot about all this mystic stuff" type affair).

Like I said the main thing that sticks out was the fact that there was a lot of narritive explaining history (one of those animes that has a massive backstory and crams it into an hour, so there was a lot of "and this is because ..." "and this guy did this in the past..." etc). Some guy was trying to sieze ultimate power by doing certain tasks and by doing it you'd recieve scars, but legends fortold of a child to save everyone or something along them lines and this kid kept getting the scars instead then became all powerful by the end when he had them all.

After a bit of searching through scar related tropes on TVTropes, nothing. However, a bit of googling leads me to this link. It has a list of anime Sci-Fi has broadcasted(though the list may not be complete), so you can look up those and see if any are what you're looking for.

Definitely not a completely list. Even just off the top of my head I can name some things that Sci-Fi has shown that aren't on that list. (Galaxy Express 999 and Beautiful Dreamer come to mind.)

And Cyber City Oedo, Giant Robo, Armageddon and Violence Jack off the top of my head. Good shout, but I've had a flick through and I don't think its listed.

That list has reminded me of Demon City Shinjuku though, so for that I am grateful!

Its deffinately not Fist of the North Star :P Whatever it was it was an obscure title, certainly not anything remotely "famous".

Here is Wikipedia's list of historical anime. It's probably not complete but may you'll find what you're looking for in there.

Good shout, but I couldn't find it in the list. It wasn't "historical" per-se, it was set in modern-ish times and the narrator would talk alot about backstory (probably more so than the characters ever spoke). I dont think the backstory of old clans and things was historically accurate. Maybe it was based on real events but it was largely fantasy stuff I think.

Nope, fraid not. Im sure it was a movie and not a series. The style of animation and atmosphere was very grim, no jumping around or flashy stuff really if that helps.

Another shot in the dark but is it any of these movies? Video may be NSFW, though the remix of "In the hall of the Mountain King" is pretty cool.

No joy. This anime was not very well animated and the storyline was rather poor infact. Over all it was a, well, very crappy anime! I am wanting to find it for nostalgia sake. It was deffinately not something you'd watch and think "wow that was awesome, I wish I'd seen it sooner!"
