Yeah, I agree that was the highlight of the episode.
I agree with a lot of folks that the whole thing felt rushed. Part of that was that every single major plot point was explained in song.
I'm not unhappy about alicorn Twilight - we all knew it was coming, pretty much since season one. Maybe Celestia can retire now.
Requirements for transforming into an alicorn seem to be: - Be a unicorn possessing strong magic - Exhibit all the traits of the elements of harmony - Exhibit strong leadership skills - Perform some extraordinary feat (write new magic, control the day and/or night, be able to control love, etc)
Questions: - Is Twilight Sparkle immortal too, now? - How young was Cadence when she transformed? - How many princesses can Equestia hold? - Will Twilight's legs get longer like the other princesses? (They look more like horses than ponies...)
Twilight's wings look odd. Too large for her body. Also, you should hear the weird things my roommate's been reading.
Someone's claiming the ponies will be turned human as they travel to our world next season, for instance.
That's not next season. That's a movie or a spinoff series called Equestria Girls. Hasbro is trying to compete with Mattel's property, Monster High, and turning the ponies into humans is a great way to do that.
The image floating around that shows the humanified ponies is fake, though, and has been determined to be from a Littlest Pet Shop game or some such.
That 'liquid pride' line was the best part of the whole episode. Also, the term "alicorn' is apparently canon now.
This was an odd episode. Everything happened really fast and then the ending seemed more like a series finale than a season one. I'm surprised they didn't make it a 2-parter to give the whole thing a bit more substance.
There have always been a lot of unanswered questions about princess and alicorns. Especially once Cadence showed up and threw a wrench into the day and night goddesses concept. Hopefully we'll get some sort of explanation one of these days.
Totally knew this thread was about MLP purely from the title alone.
Yeah, that was a weird series season finale, but I'm still excited for the prospect of a fourth, normal length season. The show's not quite over yet, folks.

Personally, I thought it was really awesome. I loved the music. Twilight's ascension was handled quite well, I think.
I will agree with all that it would have been better as a two-parter, but of course Meghan McCarthy did say she considered it a 3-parter so we will see how S4 starts.
Also, apparently Derpy was hiding out in the finale all this time. There were what, 4 or 5 sightings? Hopefully this means that part of the earlier leak was false. If not, though, that was one hell of a sendoff for her.
All in all, I think things went far better than expected.
