I think it came out shortly after the episode aired that the creators said they weren't allowed to show them doing more than holding hands. I think there was a bit more than just holding hands implied with some other body language though.

The first series has a number of comics dealing with things that happened during and after the main series. I don't know about any Korra comics though, they might exist but I haven't seen (or really looked).
I don't know what Nick wants to do with the series. They appeared to be trying to kill off the animated show, not sure what their end game is.
