Did you expect a thread on this movie?

The thread was legit in asking if anyone saw it, but I was not actually surprised that there wasn't a thread. Hence, why Tirith responded if I were serious. I responded to the fact that my thread was serious in if anyone actually saw the movie. He thought I responded to being surprised. We simply spoke passed each other

That's the problem, the mentality that you aren't the target demographic. YOU ARE THE TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC.

Not because he wanted this thread to be deleted or whatever. And that was what I said, too.
Do we have to rephrase that for you another 5 times or is this sufficient?

Calm down sparky. Need you to take that down a notch or two, preferably to simmer. The exact words were " And, in my opinion, this forum wasn't the target demographic of that movie." I merely stated that I didn't know that a movie forum wasn't the target demographic for main stream comedy movies. No where did I insinuate deletion, that's your defensive rage kicking in to 5th gear.

Well, I meant the regular users of this forum, based on the posts made. I did not mean the forum itself (which, is not a consumer). The forum itself is an appropriate place to post about this movie, but it's regular users are not, I believe, people who would be interested in seeing this movie in theaters.

Which is why I stated that we simply spoke past each other. No harm no foul.

Maybe you should take your reading comprehension up a notch or two. Then we wouldn't be arguing over essentially nothing here.
And to be exact you implied me to to have said this thread doesn't belong here.

Almalieque wrote:

Which I didn't say anywhere.
I'm pretty sure you knew exactly what I was refering to, but it's way more fun to play dumb and keep this going, amirite?

How did you reach that conclusion exactly? The collective "we" who post here tend to be video game playing, anime watching, comic book reading, MMO forum posting, nerds. Are you seriously going to tell me that's the target audience for this movie?

Well, at least I'm not the only one with some comprehension issues. Smiley: lol

That post was about all-black comedies in general. I specifically mentioned the heavy use of cultural humor in such movies, of which I am not the target audience. Now, this particular movie might not be such a film, but the prevalence of that type of comedy has me predisposed to dismiss it as such.

He's saying that this movie is a mainstream comedy, and that the target audience is "people who enjoy comedies". Since most people enjoy comedy, most people are the target demographic.

Funny you say that.. See below.

We were discussing the dialog between myself and Tirith, so I'm not sure why you inferred "you" to refer to literally you given that I was quoting Tirith in my explanation and you responded to me (not the other way around). You were never part of the conversation so WTF would you assume that I was talking about you, given the context?

Do video game playing, anime watching, comic book reading MMO forum posting, nerds like comedy movies? I literally fit in everyone of those categories and like comedy movies. So I'm confused on how the previous categories negate comedy movies.

Contrary to your belief, not all Black comedy movies are full of chuckin' and jivin'. Most Black comedy/romance movies that I've seen have very little "cultural humor". If by "cultural humor", you mean, being black, then yes. Else, there really isn't much difference. If you feel otherwise, I would like to hear some examples. You act as if these films were filmed in, by and staring Nigerians or some random African country as opposed to U.S. Americans.

I think I'm just falsely equating them all to Tyler Perry-esque movies where the humor is based around highly stereotyped characters. It's certainly possible, maybe even probable.

Tyler Perry does not represent black movies. Believe it or not, there is a lot of criticism towards his movies from the black community. Even with the stereotyped characters, that's not any more cultural humor than any other movie with stereotyped characters, which is most of them. If and only if they were somehow "un-American" or based on black idiosyncrasies could you legitimately argue the "cultural gap". Else, you simply have stereotypical characters.

I'll accept that I used improper terminology to phrase things. They're stereotyped characters that I can't relate to, and so I don't find the humor amusing. And while things have certainly changed in more recent years, there was a period of time where it seemed like he had a new movie coming out every week. That was probably the last time I was regularly watching television, so my perception of all-black comedies is likely due to that timeframe. Since I am no longer regularly exposed to trailers, I suppose I haven't been exposed to more recent comedies featuring a predominantly black cast.

Tyler Perry makes James Patterson novels into movies. For that crime alone he should be burned in the deepest pits of hell. Just like those ******** who keep making Stephanie Meyers books into movies.

I didn't mind Along Came A Spider and Kiss the Girls as movies.

I understand your perception, but if you were watching Tyler Perry movies, then that's probably why. I'm not sure when you started watching media, but there have been a number of "successful" black movies before the Tyler Perry era. Also, there's a difference between not being able to relate to a stereotypical person vs not understanding the humor. I don't relate to the vast majority of characters I see in media, but I still understand the humor, regardless if I find it funny or not.

Also to note, if you've seen one or two Tyler Perry movies, you've seen them all. It's the same set up, slightly different plot, but at the same time, the story is American, not sub-cultural or in Mandarin.

Boondocks summarizes Tyler Perry movies quite well.

There's actually a trending (unintentional) reason for that, but I'll leave that for another discussion.

My favorite episodes were in season 1.

Riley Wuz Here

The Passion of Uncle Ruckus

(Ending scene spoilers, I guess, if you consider 4 season old episodes as spoilers).

I think I missed out on most of the third season. The time slot was not good for me then.
