As to Gifted, I can't figure out if erasing that memory was intentional, or an accident. What exactly was she trying to do? Seemed like she was supposed to be focusing on getting information about Pulse and what happened to him, so how did she manage to erase such a specific memory (and presumably all references to that memory after the fact) while failing to get complete information about what she was actually supposed to be looking for? Not sure about the character though. Maybe she just likes abusing her power? Or did the writers just need an excuse to make characters on all sides more sympathetic. IMO, they were already going that just fine, so I'm not sure if this was necessary from a storytelling pov.

No idea about the source character / inspiration, but her memory power seems pretty powerful. I think what ever the mist is can extract memories, but she has to control it and put them back in? She blew the mist at the guy, and started viewing the memories, but was interrupted before she could finish. She says something along the lines of "I can't leave him like this!" as she's drug away.

I imagine that the mist was left to move through his memories unchecked and then dissipate uncontrolled, taking memories with it.

That's as good an explanation as any, I suppose. Although the specific memory was, well... specific. He remembered his wife, his job, with enough details to go through a post operation debriefing without raising any flags, where he lived, what day it was, year, etc, but forgot his daughters death? I could see if there was some connection specific to that memory, like maybe she was trying to make him less obsessed about finding mutants by erasing his pain or something, and was interrupted and erased the whole thing, but she wasn't there when he told them about his daughter. She'd have had no reason to be poking around that specific memory.

We don't know how her power works, so it could be anything, but that just seems like a overly convenient drama/plot thing to have happen randomly. It's not a huge peeve, but still.

Gifted. I think her power didn't go after the memories of his daughter until after she was distracted and lost control. Before that she was rooting around in the memories of his work and mutants.

And the memories of his daughter would be very closely linked to those of his work and his feelings about mutants. And much like you suddenly remembering something due to a smell you linked to it in the past, those memories would likely pull up one another.

I chalk it up to how the father isn't very decisive. First he's okay with putting away mutants without asking any questions, then suddenly he's trying to be part of the resistance (and his interactions with the resistance unintentionally got one of their big guns caught), then he's captured and was willing to lead the Sentinels to the resistance's hideout, only to bail at the last minute.

I think Memory Girl was digging through (Coby Bell's character whose name I can't remember and am being too lazy to look up yet writing this run on sentence to say I can't remember his name which is taking longer than it would have to just look it up)'s memories looking for information they could use about Pulse's change of allegiances, and since her powers involve smoke when she was glossing over the memory of the daughter the tear gas hit and interfered with her power. Kind of like pouring water into a full cup.
And yes, I fully understand that Karnak's powers being inaccurately represented in The Inhumans is a minor annoyance compared to some of the bigger issues with the show, like everything Maximus. It's still annoying.

DCEU's Black Adam finds it's writer in Adam Sztykiel, who also wrote Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip. Yeah, I don't know if Dwayne Johnson can make that work, but it's far too early in the process.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas on set for Ant-Man & The Wasp. I think the fact that Douglas looks kind of like a slightly shorter haired Tommy Wiseau makes the images really hilarious, considering the characters in question.

Rumor has it that New Warriors, the comedy starring Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, won't be showing up on Freeform afterall, as it is being shopped around to different networks after it "tested through the roof and caught the attention of high-level Disney executives." Possibly on the streaming service Disney is working on.

Danny Elfman confirmed that his classic Batman theme will be heard on the Justice League soundtrack. I'm one hundred percent okay with that. He also says it'll feature Hans Zimmer's Wonder Woman theme, and some John Williams for Superman. All good choices.

This week's Legends was up there in terms up good episodes on the CW shows. I found so many of the jokes quite funny. And the parody/references were well done.

Flash, Trejo Smiley: thumbsup. Plastic Man... eh? I guess. Will see what comes of it, but that part of the episode wasn't all that interesting to me.

Looks like I'm down to Supergirl and Arrow to catch up on. And just gotta make sure to not fall behind this week.

I think there's a large enough sample size to safe to say that the shows and movies are at their best when they embrace their comic camp heritage and don't shy away from the bizarre.

Seamlessly seguing from that, Dr Cox Stan Against Evil is back, and the season's first episode was just as off the wall as the first season. I found out accidentally when my dvr recorded it. Blessed little black box.

In other unrelated movie news, Tyrese Gibson has threatened that he won't return for the next Fast & Furious movie if Dwayne Johnson does. It's always funny when people overestimate their celebrity, and this is on the level of Oliver Queen threatening to leave the Justice League if Superman isn't fired.

So I broke down and went to Thor: Ragnarok. My daughter was a bit bummed about being bored at school so I figure I'd drag her to watch. She had fun, but I think a lot of it was that she got to stay awake passed her bedtime.

Temporary short: It was good, and it was worth the ticket prices, but not so much that it felt like it was a worthy use of money. Like, I was okay spending the money, but unlike the better end of the spectrum I also felt like I could have done better with it. Anyway, the drama was dramatic, and the humor was humorous as well, but not ridiculously overdone like Guardians Vol 2. One joke had me in tears, in fact. Goldblum and Korg pretty much stole their scenes, as did Hulk. In fact, I'd say everyone worked out pretty well. I'll do more details tomorrow.

Extended: Like I said, it's certainly a comedy, but unlike Guardians Vol 2 not every scene had a comedic punchline for no particular reason than to be funny. Everyone (well, except Cate Blanchett) kind of hams it up. Even Anthony Hopkins gets to act silly for a scene, which is really amusing considering it's, well, Anthony Hopkins. Thor is definitely more upbeat, and while it does take away from his more "regal, noble godlike" image it works for the movie and a change for the better. No pointless poop jokes, though there is a penis and sex joke. Though a few of the jokes were out of place, like near the beginning with the chain, overall they work out pretty well and unlike GotGv2 almost every joke was a hit. But at the same time some of the out of place jokes are really good, like the Stan Lee scene and especially especially the one near the end with Banner had me in tears.

The fight scenes are definitely top-tier, approaching Captain America levels. It certainly helps that two of the main fight scenes has Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" playing. And the soundtrack is pretty weird, too. It shifts between 80s synth to full philharmonic orchestra, which is really noticeable during the end credits.

The biggest problem is really the same as many MCU movies: The main villain just isn't that good. Not that Hela isn't neat, with her fight scenes but the whole Ragnarok storyline is pretty mediocre. I think the whole movie could have begun and ended on Sakaar and it would have been just as enjoyable. Like I said, Grandmaster, Korg, and Hulk actually being Hulk (the real, infantile, not always angry Hulk) are the high points.

I think if I have any huge complaints, other than the main story feeling more like a B story at best, was that some of the green screen looked weird. The Norway scene replaces the Alley scene from the early trailers, and while it certainly works nicely for the story it just looks like a cheap sound stage. Also a bit peeved over what happens to the Warriors Three. I mean, come on.

The mid-credit scene is plot relevant for Avengers: Infinity War, and the final scene is just Goldblum being Goldblum which I feel is a complement.
Enjoyed it more than Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2, so I'd personally place it somewhere equal or just below Doctor Strange and Ant-Man, but well below the second two Captain America movies. It is the best Thor movie, but really? That wasn't exactly a difficult hurdle to clear. Oh, trailers. I think there was one for Star Wars and Pacific Rim. Nothing really stood out for me.

My dvr didn't record Gotham but did Arrow so I'm incredibly angry over that.

Agents of SHIELD: Season 5 will be introducing at least four new characters according to EW.
EW Character Synopsis wrote:
Grill (Pruitt Taylor Vince) - Grill is a gruff taskmaster, lording over those under his command with an unforgiving temperament. He has no illusions about the world he lives in and this makes him a man not easily fooled, or crossed.

Flint (Coy Stewart) - Flint is a young man who’s been forced to grow up fast in a tough environment, but hasn’t lost his desire to make something of himself. When he crosses paths with our S.H.I.E.L.D. team, he just may get the chance to prove that he’s capable of big things. Fun fact: Flint is based on a character from Inhumans comics who has the ability to control rock and stone.

Tess (Eve Harlow) - Tess is resourceful, striving to be self-sufficient in very desperate circumstances, but she has hung on to her hopes for a better future for herself and those closest to her. She is living proof that even in the toughest of times, good people will still fight for each other.

Deke (Jeff Ward) - Deke is the ultimate survivor and roguish scavenger, the guy who can get people what they need, but at a price of his asking. With his sharp mind and quick wit, he is both a real asset in a tight spot and a hard man to trust.
They'll be in space, but it wasn't been confirmed whether or not it'll be SWORD. The show will return Friday, December 1st.

According to Variety, Grace Fulton is in negotiations to re-team with Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg for DCEU's Shazam movie. While no character is mentioned, they do mention that it'll be "One of Billy's friends," which has the speculation train guessing she'll be Mary Marvel. Rumor also has it that Mark Strong has entered talks to play the villainous Dr. Sivana, one of Captain Marvel's first villains.
Laurence Fishburne wrote:
I’m developing something else for Marvel that I can’t talk about. It’s gonna be really cool. It’s gonna change the world, we hope (laughs). I went to Marvel and pitched them something that really couldn’t work out - there was a lot of legal red tape that just [was] something they couldn’t work out. But then they came back with the offer for Ant-Man and the Wasp and then they said, ‘Hey, what do you think of this?’ and I went ‘Oh yeah that, yes!’ so…
Sounds like something.

Busy freakin' day apparently. Syfy's Krypton is still casting and the latest additions are Paula Malcomson and Blake Ritson, Superman's Great-Grandmother and Brainiac respectively.

I'm hearing some decent things about Justice League, though it sounds like it has some of the same problems that previous DCEU movies have: Pacing and structure issues. Someone else is gonna have to check it out, I already used my allowance this month. And if that excuse sounds flimsy, well, it is. I do find my bias making me less receptive towards it, and The Punisher releases the same day and that intrigues me far more.

And finally before I bolt for the weekend: The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

Thor was decent enough. I think some of the action scenes could have been a bit more grounded in reality (as far as you can make a fight between a giant wolf and huge green man realistic). It was all bit too CGI for my taste. Which is pretty much the problem I've had with all three Thor movies. I was about fifty fifty on the jokes, some were pretty funny, others just dropped flat. Korg had a few good ones, most of the Hulk's decent material was in the trailers, that was about it. The Dr Strange scene was a bit amusing, not laugh out loud funny, but amusing. Considering how dark the story actually is, they did a pretty good job of lightening up the content.

As to after credit's scenes, there is one that seems to be setting up Infinity Wars at the mid point. It's almost worth the wait. The second one at the end is a humorous bit with the Grand Master. It can missed if you don't feel like waiting.

Looks like Shazam has found it's actual Billy Baston in Asher Angel.

Disney is rumored to be in talks with Fox to purchase their production studios. Which means, Fantastic Four and X-Men could be returning to the MCU. I'm actually a little cautious over that. I get that Perlmetter was the main problem, but Inhumans is basically X-Men Lite, and has been horrible on pretty much every level, from screenwriting to casting to costume design that it makes it difficult to believe the bigger sections of the House of Mouse can handle X-Men.

I do want Beast and Wonder Man on the Avengers, though. Probably one of the better bro-mances. Not quite Luke Cage and Danny Rand, but still.

I did see Thor over the weekend. And liked it. I can see why they went with the GotG feel after the relatively less well received previous installments.

Quite a few trailers, most of which I can't remember. New Mutants looks so different than anything in these comic book movies. I hope it turns out interesting and not just something like Paranormal Activity. And then there was one called Downsizing where Matt Damon turns into a tiny person.

And the next two days I get to spend in the most dangerous place I've had to visit yet... deep into the dying (dead) heart of Detroit.

Lucifer: Geeky Forensics Gal is a hotty.

I went to catch up on my last show on my DVR box. Arrow. Had 4 episodes, but episode 2 bugged out and didn't actually record. Seems that the week I was gone for some reason my cable box bugged out and didn't record half the shows properly. Now I gotta go sort thru some stuff if I want to catch up on Arrows (not actually sure I really want to though, but know I will).

Downsizing was a pretty long trailer. Looks like a fun movie but probably not something I'd see in a movie theater. Likely something I'd watch on cable TV some weekend, FX or what not.

New Mutants was not a new or extended trailer. Just the "Baby snakes are more dangerous" monologue with "The Wall" cover playing.

Sort of surprisingly, I don't recall seeing a Justice League trailer. But maybe it did play and I can't remember cause it plays so often on TV recently.

I wish shows wouldn't do the whole "previously on..." and then show you random footage of characters from episodes so long ago that will be linked to this week's episode. It really does spoil the surprise in most instances. Them focusing on Chloe and the Forensics Gal sort of made it obvious that it wasn't Lucifer who hired the Male Stripper-In-A-Cake. And I think ruined the fun of the "reveal" of it being her who hired him.

And I did like the last line in the episode about how since he'll likely never get to penetrate her, he figured he's commemorate the time she penetrated him.

Yeah, they really should have kept quiet about that for a few more seconds so the reveal would have been more interesting, but I don't think it really hurt anything. And yeah, the last line was cute.

Flash: #Feminism

Joe's step daughter is a stripper, totally doing it for college, honestly.

Legends: Why'd they have to bring back Dhark. Need a new enemy.

Gifted is still up there on the top of my list this season. I haven't gotten around to watching the Flint MI Lead Poisoning, at least according to the info about the episode episode of Supergirl.

Pretty sure that was the worst episode of Flash. I can't think of any episode that was worse than Snake Eye Villain and Ridiculously Bad Fake Accent Magneto.

And I kind of like Dhark when he's being smarmy. I admit I chuckled when he asked about his watch. He's just not a very convincing villain.
I hope they nix the high school relationship drama subplot between the daughter and the illusion boy real quick. There's enough of that in the DCW shows to choke an elephant. And it was bad the first two seasons, but this season of Supergirl has gone nova with the preachiness. Like now every episode is some kind of socio-political message hammered at your face. I get it, comics have always had political messages since Captain America punched Hitler and Superman told us to Slap a Jap, but I thought we at least got a little more subtle about it.

First look at Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who. Also looks like a different TARDIS. Going for a Mork & Mindy meets Gallagher outfit. Kind of curious how the personality will go.

Smallville actress Allison Mack is apparently under investigation for leading a sex cult.

Slightly spoilery, but seeing as most of it was spoiled by trailers to begin with, here's a tribute to Mjolnir. Apparently there's a deleted scene that totally should have been left in.

Ya, watched most of the supergirl episode this morning. Talbot's character is pretty cliche, but I like him more than some of the existing characters right now. It was better when Winn and James were more active and in on the jokes. James has been pretty boring lately with his position. Winn I haven't been seeing much of him, or if I have it's been dull enough that he's not left any impression.

They need to be more creative with their social commentary. Not just take existing slogans word for word and use them as dialog in their stories. Lock Her Up! Lock Her Up!. Just... lazy. Like all of Comedy Central's attempts to replace Colbert's successful Conservative parody late night character. The most recent one is just way too obvious/try-hard. Colbert had at least a bit of subtlety to the character.

Gotham:
Seems Grundy won't last as is much longer. Power of Love will change him back...

Orville solved the Israel / Palestine issue in a 30 minute episode. Just have to genetically modify an alien mating pheromone and expose Netanyahu and Abbas so they fall in love and call off all hostilities since the beginning of time with a few minutes of lovey-face and kisses.

Stupid ending, but the episode was more comedy than previous ones had.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that may have been the best episode of Lucifer yet. I can't recall all of them, but it definitely was up there. And surprising with how the episode started.

Gifted was a bit dull, but had some good scenes. Doesn't look like the High School romance is going anywhere.

Supergirl, cute little flashback filler episode, but... filler is still filler. And I realize I criticized this filler while saying Lucifer was probably the best episode. But the storyline of Supergirl's wasn't nearly as interesting as Lucifer's ended up being.

Walking Dead is going to save some money going forward. Shiva is dead, no more having to decide when to spend the CG monies.

In hindsight that ending was a little telegraphed, but I certainly didn't think enough about it during to see the ending coming until the last few minutes. Also I've been enjoying the whole concept of Hell being your worst experience repeated for all eternity. Even if it's coming up more often it's still more interesting than just fire and being poked forever.

I think it finally clicked for me on The Gifted. It's the start of the "Days of Future Past" storyline. You've got Sentinel (Services) hunting mutants by using specialized brainwashed mutants, with distinctive tattoos no less, of their own. Sure, a couple of the details are different but overall? Going to go ahead and bet that the two main kids aren't "true" mutants but genetically altered to activate their X-Gene, much like the Fenris Twins from the books that they seem to be modeled after. Kind of amusing how pretty much everything bad happening to mutants can be traced back in some way to the father.

Smiley: cry As long as we still have Jerry and Carol. Jerry going Beast Modeâ„¢ was great, but along with Shiva we also lost Jerry's Axe.

Justice League in a couple of days, and the review embargo hasn't been released yet which is making people who rage against Rotten Tomato lose their mind trying to figure out how they don't have a rating yet. One rumor about one of the end credit scenes is that Superman and Flash start a race, which is amusing and comic accurate since the two are always racing against each other ("Those were for charity, Clark."), so it was probably a Whedon addition.

Speaking of the Rotten Tomato, they just tweeted that they're not going to release their aggregated score until early Thursday morning, which I assume is because they don't want millions of people hammering their site all Wednesday watching Justice League's score shrink lower and lower and just do it all at once.

There's a new Sony Spiderverse rumor that the guys responsible for the Power Rangers movie, Buck Sharpless and Matt Sazama, have submitted a script simply titled "Morbius." Who is kind of sort of a science created vampire from the Spider-Man books that that shifts between a B and C level character. The Venom movie seems to be true, so why not a Living Vampire movie? I mean, besides the lack of interesting main character and no connective tissue to any supporting character that could make it interesting?

Ben Affleck has gone from being Batman's writer, director, and actor to saying that "You don't do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it." So, you know. Probably not the best of signs for the Caped Crusader.

Robert Kirkman's Secret History of Comic Books is an amusing documentary, if you're into that kind of thing, that makes me want to hunt down my high school guidance counselor and punch her in the throat for not informing me that "Comic Book Historian" is an actual thing.

Still need to watch Supergirl ... well, need is probably too strong a word, but after the last three episodes "want" certainly isn't the right word either.
