I not only got the Staff of Melting, but an Oaken Wizard Staff of Fire. What is weird about this, is that when I had both appraised, the Oaken staff was worth 8000c, and the Staff of Melting was only 2740c. Yet this Oaken Staff of Fire is Earth/Cold 5, and Fire 9, and no + anything. Also, it is slower and does less damage than the Metling one. What gives???

Spell path bonuses means that the calculation of damage and resistance of the spell would be done as if the caster were that many additional levels higher than he is. Notice how you do more damage to things lower level than you? Same thing but not to that extent. So if I am a level 15 Wizard using a Fire base line spell with this staff in my hand it would be as if I were level 30. This means a lot. If you use focus staffs--if you are a pure caster you better be using a focus staff--you will note that the damage you do, the overall effectivnes of the spells you use with the focus is much better than reported as standard. Reign of Fire, for example, is suppose to do about 68pts damage. I average 120-144 on blue mobs and 72-91 on yellow mobs--were talking warm blooded mobs, the ones you want to use heat attacks on. That is a big difference in damage. My advice to all my fellow Wizards and other pure casters, use your focus staffs.

GIVE ME SOME OF WHAT YOUR SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

The calculations of damage and resistance may be affected by certain Items. But with Focus Staves they reduce the base cost to cast a spell. They start out at 120% cost and are reduced by a certain amount with these staves....think the minimal amount a spell will cast is at 80 or 90% base cost.

All in all......IT DOES NOT CAST IT AS IF YOU WERE THAT MUCH HIGHER IN LVL.....Take for instance....a lvl 40 casting a spell with a Lvl 40 focus item.....ie...80th Lvl...I don't think so...get real.
friar?

Drops also off of Tomb Raiders and Tomb Raider Commanders in their camp behind the broken bridge with the (small) skeleton legionnaires.
What +15 lvls means
# Nov 29 2001 at 10:41 AM Rating: Default
It means that all your spells level 15 and below are cast at either a reduced power cost, a reduced casting time, or both.
Important question

Does anyone know what putting skill up in magic does??? its not like it gives u the spells that u would get if u had the acutal level. In fact, it's useless, as far as i can tell.
RE: Important question

it does give you spells, if your using your spec. points, you get new spells, fire=pyromancy wind=vapormancy earth=calefaction cold=somethingorother, but if you are wearing something that gives you + to magic paths, it does not give you new spells, but it increases the strength of the spell, if it was useless they wouldn't have bothered with it
