I did this quest while the carrion drakes were gray to me. The items dropped right away, tho there was no notification (besides Journal updates). I killed about three, and was about to kill more when I saw my journal & checked my inventory to see the tail and eye there. I didn't have to pick up any bags nor did I see the grey system text telling me I had picked something up.

found slythcur wandering in a gully on top of the ridge to the SE of the NE guard tower in salis. Loc was 15400,11900. he was headed east in the bottom of the gully.

NOTE: i did this quest at 22. Everything was gray, but the items still dropped.. it took a little while though (slythcurs hide dropped right away)
Evade, as it were
# Jun 14 2002 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
Evade, in Beta, acted like any other skill. With Evade I, you had a 5% chance of evading a BLUE con enemy's attack. This chance went up or down depending on the con of the critter. Evade II was a 10% chance, Evade III 15%, and so on. If you had an item which increased evade, each additional point gave you and additional 5% chance of evading. Think about how many items an Infiltrator can use which have/had +Evade.. then consider what their top level of Evade is. Do the math, and tell me if you think you'd like to meet one with your Warrior/ Zerk/ Hero/ Blademaster. So, instead of making Evade work like Parry, they made it so items didn't affect Evade. They made it an 'ability' rather than a 'skill'. Chants are in a similar, yet different boat. They are getting rid of + Chant items because the only reason you put points into chants is to get the new chants. Having a higher skill in it doesn't make the chants do any more. Envenom is different than Evade or Chant. +Envenom items actually do a lot. Granted, having a higher skill doesn't mean that your pizzinz are gonna do more damage, but with the higher envenom skill, you can use higher level poisons. A 40th level assassin with a 40 in Envenom and +10 in items can now use level 50 poisons.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 03 2002 at 8:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As of right now the quest is bugged and will not let you finish it if you have started it or if you haven't started it, probably won't let you get it at all. I did a /appeal and was told it will be fixed on the next patch. That has been about two weeks now.

I believe +1 to evade would be the same as getting say, Dodger I. I dont know the exact % to evade the base skill you get with your class gives, but I know that Dodger I adds a 5% chance to evade. Tho its not shown on in your skill window as added to your evade, its there. So I would assume a +1 item would just add 5% to your chance to evade. THats my conclusion.

btw Dodger 4 owns.
Very Easy Quest

I got this quest by accident at level 18 as my Sorcerer.

The drakes and Slythcur where all Grey to me. My pet did all the work. :) They were jsut south of west downs in the hills to the east, near the tower.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 21 2002 at 12:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have noticed the rise of "n00bies" on the Merlin Albion. If u plan to start on Albion Merlin have friends to group with that know how to play, and know the surroundings unless u want to be in groups that repeditivly die over and over. Just a lil heads up :P. Have fun plyin DAoC.
+Evade items are thankfully endangered

If you look at a recent posting on the herald (http://www.camelotherald.com/more/306.php), you'll note that they've started switching +evade bonuses for ones that actually work in the game. It must be a massive undertaking, because the subject of this quest (and a number of other items) was not covered, but you have to figure that it is only a matter of time.

Regardless, whatever change they make can only improve the cloak ;)

This is supposition at best, while a couple items did have evade removed/replaced, it never says that that was due to evade none working (as it does say with the envenom ability).

Useful if I have Evade 1
# Feb 21 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
I am a merc with the Evade 1 skill. As far as I know I cannot obtain the Evade 2 skill at any point in my career. Mmmmm so will this cloak help my Evade 1 skill at all? Oh well guess I am just asking the same question as everyone else.

Why cant Mythic just make this clear in the game itself? Its not as though there is a rulebook I can refer to to get more accurate details on the Evade skill and how it works. In fact with all of the skills I always have to search through websites to find out what they do and how I use them (eg when I get a new combat technique the game does not tell me what it does or how it works - I have to check a website). In real-life terms (yeah I KNOW its just a game) this means my merc spends weeks training in a skill and when he acquires it he does not actually know what he has learnt or what it can do!

Mind you I suppose if I wanted realism I would be doing it all for real so I will shut my complaining mouth now lol.

Ok, not 100% sure, but think it works like this: Evade gives a bace chance to evade attack( like 5% ?) and items add to the percent chance. So item even good for a merc, tho better for, say, a friar, who get far better evade skill. Feel free to correct me if this info is bad.
useless cloak

Let's hope someone at Mythic can fix this cloak and put something useful on it. Till they do I would not recommend bothering doing this quest as the reward is not much better than a store bought one.

question is does the cloak's +1 evace effect the level of evade that you can use?

it may be that he who thinks evade is broken doesn't have evade at all and therefotre can't utilize it...

i know an item that gave me +1 parry only gave me the bonus after i was high enough level to be able to have the parry skill...

a lot of classes don't get evade.. so... what is it, someone didn't have evade, or the cloak no longer has any efect on evade becaus eit's no longer a trainable skil per se?
Evade
# Dec 04 2001 at 7:04 PM Rating: Default
I'm not to sure about the Evade being broken...I have a 14 Scout and have noticed I Evade better when I recieved my Evade 2 skill. But I also think Mob level has something to do with it...the lower the mob the more I Evade. I'm almost finished with this quest and will post if I notice an increase in my Evading...

Broken Evade

This is how he knows.
Evade in Beta was a skill just like parry, you trained it, just like parry, so when you got an evade item it would add to your evade skill. Evade has been changed, it is nolonger a trained skill. when you get an Item that has +1 evade it does not gave you Evade I or II or III ect.
Quest Order
# Nov 27 2001 at 10:16 AM Rating: Default
What ever you do don't kill anything out of order of the quest. I just happened to see Slythcur leaving the spawn point so I killed it first thinking, "Whew, that's one thing out of the way" . WRONG!

My quest journal still asked me to go back and kill Slythcur later.
Evade Items Broke

I'm just curious how you know that all evade items are broke and arent doing anything?
Sad

The +Evade does nothing currently, in fact ALL +Evade items are broken. So for the work needed for an ugly cloak with little bonus', well, this quest isn't worth it. True the cloak is higher level than Gyrg's, but just a little earlier I got the Apprentice Cloak, which is many times more useful.
slythcur's approximate location
# Nov 20 2001 at 1:17 PM Rating: Good
I see Slythcur wander in a small area on the hill southeast of the tower at the bend of the road, west of West Downs. Once you're at the northwest guard tower on the West Downs road, you can go east and a little south up the hill, and you should be facing any number of drakes. You may find safer approaches by going up the hill just south of West Downs and then going west along the hill crest.

ok finished quest.

You need to have the Carrion Drakes Tail, the Brown Drakes Hide, and the Slythcurs Hide.
Cloak ingreedients

Hmm maybe the ingredients depend on what class you are because I am getting something different. I am a sorceress currently on this quest and so far the ingredients for me have been a drakes carrion tail, a brown drakes hide, and now I need to go kill a druid for what I hope is the last ingredient which I can not remember right now. Curse mythic and their no alt tab policy, but at least its good for slowing hackers. :)

Mother of all drakes...

Aye, that's how Slythcur is described. A hint, she wanders from the spawn point just below the ridge all the way to the river and back.
