DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Commander Burcrif (loc=33945, 61515 in Black mountains south) outside Camelot's North Gate.

Story:
Hail, (Your Class)! Welcome to the north gates of Camelot. Fear not for your safety while inside the city walls, for Camelot is devoid of misfortune for the unwary. I wish we could say the same for the rest of the realm.

Oh, aye, Albion has fallen into a sad state since Arthur's death. King Constantine has begun securing the land, but misfortune awaits many who wander the countryside. Take what is going on over yonder, for example.

Last week some children left the city to play in the hilly woods. Shortly after they ran back yelling that one of them had been bitten by a red snake. The girl lives, thanks to the clerics, but those children will likely never play near there again. There was a time we guards would find the creature and slay it, but this realm war is draining our resources too much for even that.

Of course, if you're willing to take up the task, perhaps you could find the snake and kill it. What say you, adventurer?

Summary:
Search for the red snake Commander Burcrif spoke of and slay it. You may have to flush out the snake by killing others of its kind.

Quest Goal: Kill the red snake, Slith.

Rewards:
9 silver 55 copper
Slith's Tailpiece

Lvl 7 received 3,300 experience.

Old quest dialog
Commander Burcrif (loc=33945, 61515 in Black mountains south) says, "Hail! I hear tell of a rumor. Would you perhaps like to [hear it]?"

Commander Burcrif says, "Some talk of a red snake that will only come should he become [displeased]."

Commander Burcrif says, "I know now what might truly displease a snake, but I do know where he may be found. Are you [interested]?"

Dialog box: Do you accept the Hunt for Slith quest?

You have been given the Hunt for Slith quest.

Commander Burcrif says, "Good! This rare snake was last seen to the east. Not far from the walls of Camelot. Best of luck in your endeavor!"

[Step #1] Locate and kill Slith

Just past the tent merchants are ants, pups and snakes. Northeast of the gates, declining slowly, away from Camelot, look for the broodlings and start killing them, Slith will appear (loc=41500, 55500 in Black mountains south). Best to wait a level until you are stronger unless you bring a friend. The broodlings will gang up on you while you are fighting Slith, up to 7 broodlings can be nipping at you. Slith drops his tail, which is a dex ring.

You receive Slith's Tail from Slith!
You have finished the Hunt for Slith quest.

Rewards:
  Slith's Tail
  Slith's Tailpiece

Commander Burcrif can be found at loc 33945, 61515 in Black mountains south.
Just go out of Camelot's north gate and he is right beside it, to the East.

The snake Slith can be found near loc 41500, 55500 in Black mountains south.
Go out of Camelot's north gate and head straight East. He is roaming up the hill. If Slith is not there, kill some broodlings until he spawns.
Slith must be married to a rabbit...

ok i decided to try this with my 8 armsman (everything was grey) i killed at LEAST 2 dozen broodlings before slith spawned, then after he spawned like 7 came up and attacked me at the same time, nice ring... but both my slots had better stuff

#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 28 2002 at 1:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) did this at level 16 with my armsman
Can only do this once
# Jun 18 2002 at 12:56 AM Rating: Default
I just did this quest with 2 of my characters and can confirm that it's a 1 time only quest - no wearing 2 rings. You still get the ring if he's grey btw (he was to my lvl 8 magician).
twice?
# May 12 2002 at 6:07 PM Rating: Default
Question....it says you can do the quest twice but after I finished it the first time I tried to go and tak to the named gate guard to start it again but he just said the normal "may the light of camelot shine on you". Do I just go and kill more of the broodlings and he shows up again or do i have to wait for another level to pass till I can do it again?
RE: twice?

It says, "It is possible" so maybe you won't. And it could have been fixed in a patch recently.
east not west
# Mar 16 2002 at 1:36 AM Rating: Default
you want to head due east of the north gate not from cots. Till you get to the hill then north, from there.
Piece of Cake

Soloed this one with a Level 6 Paladin, and it was no problem. Just head due west from the Camelot Gates near Cotswold (stay on the north side of the stream, though, and look around till you start seeing a bunch of slith broodlings (small red snakes). I had to kill about five of them to get Slith to show up. He was no problem to kill, and I got a nice little ring out of the deal. For the short time it takes to do this one, it is well worth the small effort.

RE: hmm
# Feb 26 2002 at 11:48 AM Rating: Default
Just drag the item from yer inventory to the person ya want to give it to. if its a NPC and he wants it he will take it.
Easy.
# Jan 01 2002 at 1:16 PM Rating: Decent
Did it with a lvl 5 Armsman. Easy.
Take care of the "add" of multiple broodling.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 26 2001 at 11:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just started / completed this quest as a 26th lvl armsman.

Another nice drop
# Nov 12 2001 at 8:08 PM Rating: Default
After i killed the first Slith and all his little buddies, i noted another Slith (perhaps spawned from killing all the first one's back up?) so i killed him too (yeah I am a Paladin with the heal chant so the little guys are no problem i heal all their damage)... the second Slith did not grant me another Ring (too bad) but it did drop a Pitted Snake Fang (or something like that) which was a really nice Thrusting Weapon (relative to the level), of course I am a a Two-handed Sword slasher so i sold it, got me 180cp. Not bad for lvl 5.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 07 2001 at 11:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I did this at level 8... If you leave Camelot by the church...zone... the the s black mnts at the second arch there will be a Commanderc Burcrif...once you get the quest go straight east about 200 feet before the mountian to Ludlow and start killing all the snake broodlings.. eventually he will spawn. Make sure U have an open slot in your bad..also be ready to run because when U attack him all the broodlings in the area will attack U!! 15 greys can still be pretty tough. BTW there are alot of quest items that can go in any of the ring/neck/jewelry slots...think of jewerly slot as a range slot :)

The slith's tail is the ring.
Not for lvl 6
# Oct 20 2001 at 11:45 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest 3 times at lvl 6 and never got the ring. I'm assuming it's because he was grey.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 22 2001 at 10:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'v dne this quest from lvl 4 to 24, and always gotten the ring. There must be an error. Please report it as a bug, will you?
Where are the broodlings?
# Oct 17 2001 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
Where do you find the slith broodlings? I looked around the east gate and didn't see anything but river sprites.
RE: Where are the broodlings?
# Oct 22 2001 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
When standing outside the North gate (which you will be, as that's where Burcrif is located...), wander off to the right of the road. The valley will be full of scrawny mobs. As you start up the hill, you should see small, red snakes; these little buggers are the broodlings and are named accordingly. Careful when you attack Slith, however; Slith, itself, was fairly easy for a level four paladin, but it got hairy when all the broodlings jumped in to help.

Go towards Ludlow, from the north gate, and at the bottom of the 'vally', they are at the tree line. (Darn difficult to explain..)
