DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Talk to Barkeep Dwerrav in the pub near the Guild of Shadows in Camelot. He tells you that Sir Kenley in one of the guard towers is having trouble with bandits. The guard tower happens to be right next to the pub, and Sir Kenley can be found upstairs. Sir Kenley will tell a story of a feud between Cleddyf and Cilydd Difwych, named bandits in camps east of the road to Forest Sauvage in Camelot Hills. His scouts say that a messenger is constantly running between the two camps, and you must find a way to take the messenger's place and intercept the messages.

1) Find the messenger near one of the bandits camps (there are a few) and
kill him (green at 14). Behind the tower where you turn in the bandit ears to the hunter there is a dirt hill. The Messenger wanders on that hill (right before the Dragon Ant Soldiers). Receive a "bandit tunic" and a "note to Cleddyf" Don the bandit tunic disguise and all bandits become neutral to you.

2) Deliver note to Cleddyf. He reads it and then gives you a "sealed note for Cilydd".

3) Deliver the sealed note to Sir Kenley (receive some xp). NOTE: remember to remove the bandit tunic or the guards will kill you. Sir Kenley tells you that you must take the opportunity to get rid of one of the brothers and kill Cleddyf at the meeting point.

4) Return to the camp area and wait for midnight. Cleddyf (blue at 14) will begin to move from his camp at around 11:30 or so. He will be accompanied by a Bandit Lieutenant (green at 14). There were also a couple of bandits (gray at 14) wandering around that came to help. Kill Cleddyf and receive "Cleddyf's head".

5) Deliver Cleddyf's head to Sir Kenley in Camelot. Receive xp and a reward.

Reward:
  Barker

Did it with my Level 17 Paladin. No Coin, no XP and just a Slash Weapon, althrough i was Thrust Specced ;/

So, it's just useful for those who are using Slash Weapons.

aggro

I've waited all night and he didn't move an inch. So you have the aggro method : simply walk step by step, very slowly, toward Cleddyf, until he aggro. Then just run a little farther to avoid any add when he yells for help, and it will be easy : only him and a blue add to kill. Great weapon indeed.
Reavers Can't do this One

I took my Reaver and tried to do this quest today. I couldn't get Sir Kenley to give me the quest.

Just some clarification on locations.

The guard tower where you find Sir Kenley is to the left of the entrance to the Guild of Shadows, or directly ahead of you as you zone in from Cotswold, Kenley is on the second floor.

The barkeep is in Ye Mug which is actually around the corner from the Guild of Shadows, but it really doesn't matter considering you don't have to talk to him to get the quest.

Once you get the quest you head almost straight south east from Prydwyn Keep, past the Dragon Ant Workers, until you find the Dragon Ant Soldiers. If you climb the small hill you will see Cleddyf's camp to the north and Cilydd's to the south. The messengers can be found anywhere in between the two camps or even right outside the camp.

I got the tunic, delivered the letter, and returned the sealed note to Kenley for 10k exp (me being a lvl 12 Armsman) At this point you have a choice you can turn in your tunic for another 7k exp (and presumably to complete the quest and get the sword) or keep the tunic and have a really usefull item.

Note: You cannot complete the quest and get Barker without turning in the tunic! (the sword was too tempting for me.)

I returned to the hill at 23:00 hrs or so and Cleddyf never showed up... so I went to him and killed him in his camp :-> I assume you can do this at any time during the day.

Both brothers conned even to me again me being a lvl 12 Armsman, the Lieutenants were blue to me, and did argo when I attacked thier leader. Killed them all no problem (with a cleric by my side of course! :-P )

my friar did not recieve this quest at lvls 12-14, but he did get the barnetts sheild, and he cant use axes, so i dont see why this one would be restricted and the others arent. any ideas?
Messengers
# Jul 09 2002 at 5:33 PM Rating: Good
Messengers should be found around most bandit camps commonly. They are just glorified bandits and I don't understand why you haven't seen any unless you just been very unlucky. Make sure you clicking on _every_ enemy bandit you can see to find if they are a messenger. The messenger usually spawns just on the perimeter of the bandit camp(s).

I've been running back and forth between camps trying to find a messenger and haven't seen one. Do they spawn at certain times of the day or what? Help please, this is getting frustrating:(

For some gay *** reason i put on the tunic and i ran across the messanger after it popped again and he attacked me. so i killed his *** and i failed the quest. the tunic no longer works (bandits attack me with it on) and i dont think i can restart the quest...bah this is ghetto!

You do not get the reward unless you give up the bandit tunic ...

See that little thing under the link for the item? It says, "Rate this quest:" and then gives you options then a button that says "Go!"

There are 4 bandit camps to the SE of sauvage, one is by zone edge almost due east of Cotswold. Each has a named bandit leader in it, who are all related to each other. You need them all for various quests...
Class restriction

RE: Head
# Mar 16 2002 at 1:59 PM Rating: Good
maybe you attacked/killed a bandit while wearing the disguise. i've heard that this may fail the quest and require you to restart.
cant get the quest
# Jan 25 2002 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
Well, i tried to get the quest on lvl 12,13,14 - no chance. I tried to start it at that barkeeper and at Sir Kenly -> no quest was given...
Now there are some other quests which bring weapons as a reward (e.g. Growler,Cutter,...).
Could it be posible, that a character is restricted on ONE of these quests? Because i accepted the Growler Mace quest (by accident) and dont get the chance to start this one...
Man, i really am depressed ... i cant use a frickin mace, i want a real weapon, a nice SWORD...
Guard Tower
# Jan 12 2002 at 5:48 AM Rating: Default
Be careful at the guard tower where Sir Kenley is. I fell through the floor twice in a row and had to run all the way from Prywden keep. I jumped up onto the stairs when i missed it running in and fell right through.
cant get quest?

RvR godsend
# Jan 03 2002 at 10:57 AM Rating: Default

Get the Tunic, keep it for RvR, when being chased put it on and run ino the middle of a Snowshoe bandit camp.Instant 6-10 allies.

Give it to a scout, he can snipe and then stealth in the middle of a bandit camp, noone will look for him there.
Quest Requirements
# Dec 18 2001 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
Do you have to be a Paladin to get this quest? I can't seem to get it (Level 13 cleric). All Sir Kenly says to me is some babble about people who fight for gain vs. honor.
RE: Quest Requirements
# Dec 24 2001 at 8:56 PM Rating: Default
Well, considering you ARE a Cleric, so you can't use swords anyway, no, you probably cannot do it.

Since I had bad luck, i failed the quest, but left me with the tunic and the message for Cleddyf even after successfully absolving the quest.

Probably you want to do the same to have this tunic:

When I attacked the messenger he could call for help and to minor bandits came. To successfully do the quest you must kill the bandits first and than the messenger, because after receiving the tunic you are not allowed to attack bandits (even if you do not wear it). I did kill the messenger first and than defended myself against the bandits. Wham ... quest failed tunic gained.

But if that is good for something.

Are there other times it could be useful to be neutral to bandits? Could be a nice thing to hang on to . .
