DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

In my 16th season I was traveling and came upon a Filidh gossiping of the latest news. It seemed as though a prosperous merchant in Ardee named Fianait was taking up the hobby of gardening. The problem, much to our amusement, was that she was trying to create an otherworld garden, and the creatures of the otherworld were being none too cooperative.

Straight away I went to Fianait's aid. She told me of her problems in more detail, explaining that she was in need of the spores of a dew sherie. These spores she said needed to be taken to Cait in Howth.

Knowing where to find the reclusive dew sheeries, and already being in bad standing with their ilk, I quickly set off. For those unaware of where they can be found, the dew sheeries inhabit the eastern shore of the loch, almost directly east of Ardagh.

I found these sheeries to be, on consideration, slightly more powerful than I (red and orange at lvl 16), and was lucky enough to enlist the aid of a passing hero. Together we slew the Sheerie and I quickly went to Howth to find Cait.

Cait informed me that the otherworld garden would, of course, need otherworld soil. This soil was to be obtained from the earth demons. Some know these as Deamhan Craig's. I must confess as to having despaired, for I did not have any idea of where to find these creatures. After diligent search I found the Deamhan Craigs on the east shore of the lake. The route I traveled was across the stepping stones, and east by north east into the valleys there. You will know the area by the presence of an abandoned camp nearby.

Once found I hit the depths of my despair, for again these foul beasts would easily best me (red at lvl 16). But I took heart and set forth to increase my skills. Upon attaining the next season, I returned and found the deamhans to still be beyond my ability (red and orange to lvl 17). Luck would have it that a noble druid was located nearby and he agreed to assist me in gaining the other world soil.

Now my feet carried me back to Howth, where Cait informed me that my travels were far from over. I needed to seal the magic between the soil and the spores. Only Ainrebh of Callie the enchanter could perform this feat. So I went to the stablemaster and rode to Mag Mell, ran east and south around the loch to the barn (near the parths). The stableman there was able to transport me to Druim Cain. I knew that Caille was on this same route, and I jumped form the horse as I rode past.

Ainrebh, who was inside the main village building, told me that yet the quest continued, for I must find one final ingredient, the grass seeds from a, yes grass sheerie. I ran from town and began climbing the steeply sloped hills nearby, heading generally west by north west. As I was not familiar with the area, it was pure luck to stumble upon the grass sheerie named Fearan (blue at lvl 17) Loc: 24k,27.5k (also seen at loc=24659, 26875. This is roughly WNW of Caille and on the hill SSE of the Druid Circle and loc=22711, 33774) . Good luck for me bad luck for him. With grass seeds in hand, I returned to Ainrebh. He performed the enchantment upon the potted soil and the quest was all but over. I decided to run the final leg to Druim Cain and travel by horse from there to Druim Ligen. Setting my horse to run free at Ardee I returned to Fianait in triumph with her new otherworld potted soil. She was kind enough to reward me with (about 5 dashes of xp) a woven grass helmet she had made for me. Its wondrous abilities, were alas wasted on me, a champion. But what a quest it was!

*I also did this quest as Mentalist, but to get the soil it was a little bit different :

I go to Cait in Howth, and he told me to speak with Merlo and he's somewhere around Howth. So I went to Merlo and said to him "soil from the otherworld"
and he told me that of course he had some and gave it to me.

And I found Fearan at Loc 22,34 he's somewhere around there and yellow at 16 and has a companion (blue) (also seen at 18K/34K running along the crest of the hill).

Reward:
  Woven Grass Helm

I wandered through the area where Fearan was seen, for 2 long long gamedays. Finally i caught him at 22711, 33774, (6093 dir 329). He was green to me by that time (lvl 19) and was accompanied by a grey friend. :)

Finally found the little bugger @ 24659, 26875. THis is roughly WNW of Caille and on the hill SSE of the Druid Circle. He was with two other Sheeries that aggroed on me as soon as I killed Fearan.

I finished this quest at lvl 34, due to sheer laziness. This was just a bunch of running around. I wasn't exactly sure where to find Fearan, but once I found a grass sheerie, he was easy to find. All in all this was an EASY quest.

For a Blademaster such as I, the woven grass helmet is fairly useless. Why would I want such a thing when I wear reinforced armour? However, the experience for this quest was decent, so I'd recommend doing it for that and give the woven grass hat to one of your enchanter buddies like I did. ;)

Finally found him. A bit miffed that no one seems to agree where he is.

So a bit more research seemed to be in order.

Originally found him @ 18595, 32567 at 2:00am game time.

Then he walked to 19586, 34998, then to 19348,30169, then to 20278,35475. Pretty much north-south routes.

Anyone else noticed how messed up Hibernian quests are? Most quests i have done 10+ require help... albion and midgard i did my level 40 epics on my own but on hibernia you need help with level 16 quests? This is nuts

I did not kill any grass sheeries while waiting for him but did run all around the area so I'm pretty certain Fearan is a timed spawn rather than a placeheld spawn. Found him and his escort at 24k,27.5k,8k at 8am game time. Good hunting!

easy tips

It's actually quite easy to find where he spawns contrary to some of the location descriptions. Walk over to the tower in Caille and face Due west. You will see a dead tree in a brown area that forms a wide path. Follow the dirt path directly up the side of the hill. You don't want to travel up the hill further than the flat area with flowers on it. Look for Fearan within the flowered area, and around that general area. He may also be on the dirt path on your way up the side of the hill. Just stick to this area and he will pop eventually. If you don't see him at first, don't let this get you frustrated. Simply kill any grass sheeries that you see in this general area, and eventually he will spawn. When he first spawned for me, he spawned with another sheerie next to him and they both went aggro on me (I did this at lvl 21 so they were both green). Right after I killed him, while runnin down the dirt path back to Caille he spawned again and went aggro on my pet, just to let you know that he does pop when you kill sheeries. I found this area by chance on another quest I did where I needed to kill a sheerie, so I knew they were in this area. Also, I did not get this quest until I TALKED TO A FILIDH. This may not be necessary for everybody, but it is not a given that you will not get a quest if you talk to a Filidh. Always talk to them to see what they have to give you if you cannot recieve a quest on your own. I tried talking to Fianait several times at several different lvls and did not recieve this quest until I talked with a Filidh (that's why I didn't complete until lvl 21). Hope this helps.
Fearan the Elusive

Well this dude was hard to find, but as Angelo stated he spawns near the grass sheries.

How I found him:

Step one: Find the two large mushrooms onw to Caille.

Step Two: Turn to face the left mushroom in a northwestward direction and head up the hill.
(if you look to your left you will see the square layout of stones)

Step Three: when you go over the hill the ground levels out. I found him at loc 17533 32726 6457
He was yellow to my 17 druid and a very easy kill.

Alike Angelo I didnt have to kill the grass sheries, coz Fearan was already there. The grass sheries were a blue con so I killed then anyway to see what loot they had.

The reward - well I was a rather dissatisfied customer. Not much good for me - but I found a rather delighted Mentalist who was happy to take it off my hands.

I think as with many quests of this type they are a great way of killing time and all adds to the fun of the game.

You don't have to kill -anything- for Fearan to spawn. A 30 blademaster and I, a 16 bard, just ran around the grass sherrie area for about 5 minutes, and found him. All the sherries were neutral to us, and I didn't kill a single one. Fearan, however, aggroed.

Thanks Maz. =)

Possible clue for Feran
# Mar 30 2002 at 3:07 AM Rating: Default
It appears that Feran spawns only if your faction is bad enough with the sheeries. Mine had been Neutral and I had gone around for 2 game days killing grass sheeries, as soon as my faction went to Agressive he spawned very near to me.
Just a possible FYI for all.
Faction-based spawns...

This statement is false. Keep in mind you are playing with thousands (or hundreds, depending on your server) of people at the same time. Since Fearan appears for all players, it would not make sense to base a spawn on an individual player's faction. It has been proven that there are some placeholders for some of the named Mobs, and it's conceivable that the folks at Mythic could generate a different end result based on who killed the placeholders, but it is unlikely they would do that, since it would potentially affect everyone else.

Ok... to the anon guy who was lookin for the starting mob: see the button on the 3rd row of your kbd on the left? that's caps lock. it's there so you have an extra large button to hit in games. It's not there so you can scream at people.

And you *don't* need to start with the filidh. If you're not getting the quest, either you're outside the level range for the quest, or your class can't do it. The filidhs are there to tell you which quests you are currently able to start: they don't change anything regarding which npcs will and won't talk to you.

I found Fearan by heading pretty much due north from just before the 2 mushrooms, up the side of the valley. Basically, when you head in that direction look for grass sheeries: they cover a decent sized patch, and Fearan will be amongst them.

go to the gray spectre camp and then locate the enchanted spraggonall. Once found go up the hill behind there and search the ridge, they are large walking rocks quite cute when the run and die.

I Have tried the Merle the Old and gone up to him and typed otherworld soil, he does not give me any why? The Daemhan craigs don't drop any either what do i do?

If yours says to go to Merle the old, then type in Otherworldly soil then he gives you the soil. You will not get it killing Craigs unless that is what the quest tells you to do. My wife and I both had the quest I had to kill a Craig she just had to find the old guy. Both of us got our soil.
