DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest.

This is part II in an epic quest:

At level 20 you are given instructions by the Lady to find a shaman named Aslis residing in the black mountains that can help you speak to the undead.

Bring a group or at the least a healer

1) From Ludlow, cross the bridge to Snowdonia,

2) turn right and begin running (water will be on your right) Do not take the path, follow the river.

3) there is a hill on your left which you will see immediately as you begin running - angle over to it and climb it slowly

4) on the first ledge of that hill will be a group of dwarves with a shaman standing beside the center circle of stones (Black Mtn South 54k 17k )

5) go up and talk to her -- she's not friendly and will tell you so

6) as soon as you complete reading her text she will attack and magically produce Giant Skeletons (2) A centurion and a couple of named dwarves -- they were green and gray to me, the shaman con'd blue (lvl 20)

7) Kill the Shaman and her cronnies and pick up the bag of dropped goodies. An Ebony Collar of the Dead dropped - it's a 27 level magic item but doesn't tell you what it does when you click shift+I (If you kill the Shaman first her skeletons will despawn, so you'll not have to fight them.)

8) return to Lady Nimue for your reward.

Rewards:
Elemental Staff of Wonders -- Theurgist
Soft Drake Hide Sleeves -- Friar
Necklace of Fortitude -- Scout
Hardened Leggings -- Armsman

Hold on to the Ebony Collar of the Dead for later.

Next part is Legend of the Lake (level 25)

Rewards:
  Ebony Collar of the Dead
  Elemental Staff of Wonders
  Soft Drake Hide Sleeves
  Necklace of Fortitude
  Hardened Leggings

Tried this with my scout, got rocked by the skeleton, came back after my death...Pulled the shammie chick with my bow. No skellies that time, just a bunch of grey dwarves. Got my goods and took off. Going to try with my friar tonight.

Whoever wrote that nonsense up there:

as soon as you complete reading her text she will attack and magically produce Giant Skeletons (2) A centurion and a couple of named dwarves -- it was a real shock ;) they were green and blue to me (lvl 25)

must have been smoking crack. I just did this with a lvl 20 Scout and everything was grey except the shaman, and she was blue. No giant skels, no cents, just a couple grey spirits of some kind. It was so easy it was pathetic.

As a 20 Armsman, this quest was amazingly simple... she conned blue to me (I can solo orange mobs absolutely safely), the point she will attack at is obvious... a few Uppercut/Opal Slashes and a Riposte for good measure, and about 1% of my hit points later, it was over. The mobs that add when she attacks were all gray. All in all, my biggest regret was rebinding at Ludlow.

She is located on the right (south, IIRC) slope of the giant-*** hill next to the river, just where the forest next to the river begins. You don't need to go up the hill much at all.

She also dropped a Spirit Wrought Cloak (level 7, +3 dex and +3 quick), which I presume she always drops.

I was awarded 1,622,016 xp at level 20 upon completion of this task (that's about 1.3 bubs). Just dropped the inactive magic collar onto my equip slot (didn't have one before) and went on my merry way.

The Ebony Collar of the Dead becomes magical when you complete the level 25 part of the epic.

I wish I had more detail information other then the loot, but the lvl 20 Paladin epic results in a really nice pair of Vambraces. I was able to solo the quest at lvl 20.

Not sure of the exact loc, you do have to travel slightly farther then indicated above... it's actaully behind the first big hill you see to the left... if you try to climb that hill you hit the zone line.

This quest was suprisingly easy. You must pay attention. The hardest part was finding the Shaman. Then, as you talk to her, pay close attention to what she says. When you are at the point where she is ready to attack, have your fingure on the hotkey for the best maneuver you have. Right when she starts casting, start swinging. When she is dead, her beasties will die too, leaving you with her two cronies only (Grey to me at 20th level).

DISCLAIMER! I am not sure she actually got her spell off but certainly, I pretty much dealt with her and two cronies at the most. I saw a 37 point hit and another lesser hit...total of about 50-60 points of damage done to me.

I did this alone. I fully expected to die. My plan was to die and use that as a gate to Snowdonia station where I would pick up a horse and ride back down south. By her dieing so easily, in a way, she foiled my plans. :)

You can kill the two grays before the fight making it even easier. That's what I did cause I am paranoid.

I agree. I did this at lvl 21 and brought a cleric along for good measure... he solod the summoned monsters and got pissed when they dissapeared as soon as the purple (meaning color of her skin, she con's blue @ 21) biznatch died. I lost a sliver of health is all. Piece of cake quest... just one question, why on earth do the greys in the camp even bother attacking?

BTW I got almost 2 million xp for the quest, and the armsman leggings kick ***** 60 effective AF. WOOT!

I did this quest as a lvl 20 Theurgist, but I took along a higher level friend, just in case. We found her in the dwarf camp and she was blue to me.......My friend, who was a lvl 30 Infil, got behind her as I started talking to her.She began to cast and at this point my friend killed her without giving her a chance to summon anything. 10 seconds later the Collar of the Dead was in my bag......By the way, make sure you are grouped or else you will probably not get the collar.....Very easy.....
This quest as a Friar...

I did this quest the other night with my 20th level Friar... It was easy. When I got there I saw the Shaman (Blue Con) anda few dwarves (all grey con). After finishing dialog with her I saw her start to cast, immediately I engaged with her. She summoned 2 Disturbed Spirits and 2 Dwarves. I stuck to her and killed her rather quickly. When she died the 2 Disturbed Spirits disappear so I have no idea what they con'd to me (but they did little damage to me while I was killing the shaman). The dwarves that spawned were both grey to me. When I got back to Lady Nimue in Avalon Marsh I was rewarded with the Soft Drake Hide Sleeves (+6 Quick, +4 Str, Eff AF 44) and 1,474,560 exp
No need for friends.

Just completed this quest for the Lady Nimue. The quest may have been fixed but all the dwarves that were there were grey and they didnae even attack when the tussle started.

My only suggestion to scouts who do this quest is this: When you initially start to see the shaman cast SPRINT back towards the bridge. Collect your endurance then go back and pluck her off from the hill. Since you HAVE to engage the dialogue to complete this quest it makes it very hard for us full spec bow/stealth people to do melee. The summoned spirits she brings are greys and if when you run away and wait they wont even be there when you return to snipe her.

Any tanks that do this quest should have no problem at all since melee is your forte.

Oh and sorry forgot to mention I completed this at 20th.
doddle
# Mar 26 2002 at 4:10 PM Rating: Default
This part of the quest is a doddle, don't be affraid to do this at lv 20, I did it at 21 and took less than 1/5th of my healths damage.

Just kill the shamen strait away and all the other ones that appear will vanish. Leaving you with two greys that die with one halbard hit each.

If your a caster, once the conversations finished I'd suggest you move away, and pound the shamen, or mezz/root then pound away.
Confused As To Location
# Mar 20 2002 at 1:21 AM Rating: Decent
Step 1 above is confusing me. Is it referring to the Double Bridge in South Black Mountains? My map shows "Dwarf Thieves" in approximately the location if I have the right bridge. Otherwise, I don't know of a bridge that leads from Ludlow to Snowdonia.
RE: Confused As To Location
# Mar 21 2002 at 12:46 PM Rating: Default
That is the spot exactly. In that vallet where the giant spiders are in the back and the dwarven thieves/bears/forest lions are closer to the river IS the correct area. With your back to the river and the carving on the mountainside on your right, she is on the ridge on the left at a campfire. Can't miss it...little dwarves walking around everywhere. I had issues with her versus my friar...We are NOT made to be beat on by multiples. I stuck with her though, used Speed of the Angel and the Stamina Spell, and killed her with 1 dot of life left. Luckily, the stuff she summoned despawned upon her death, leaving only the 2 grey midget dwarves whiffing at me. I healed some, let my stamina build out of spite, then 2 hit each of them with Defender's Fury, i believe. Good luck.

I appreciate the advice.

I took along some serious backup (level 32 Paladin) and we did the Quest last night. I lasted, oh, about 10 seconds. Since I knew what to expect, I tried to just attack her without talking to her, but that didn't work. I had to walk up to her and dialog. With the Shaman, her three Doorf buddies, 2 Giant Skeletons and 2 super Disturbed Presences all ignoring the Paladin and beating on me it was almost instant death. After I died, the Paladin beat up on all the others and took very little damage. Obviously I didn't finish the Quest because I was dead upon its resoloution. After the Pally rezzed me, I sat back and recovered. After about 3 minutes, the Shaman spawned again first with no others around her. I approached her to initiate dialog again but she did'nt reply. I backed off a ways and sent a wave of Elementals after her and she took a dirt nap very soon after. To my surprise, that completed this part of the Quest. I admit that dying is a high price to pay to complete the Quest, but it keeps you from having to get spanked over and over again- IF you have a rezzer with you.
Armsman Level 20
# Mar 07 2002 at 1:08 AM Rating: Default
I did this as a newbie level 20 Armsman. Well weaponed, VERY well armored.
As I approached the hill I saw 2 VERY large, yellow Skels already there. I lured them away, one by one. Killed them (they were a bit tough), then went for the witch.
As soon as I finished speaking with her, she conjured several monsters, including one (VERY large) skel.
But, after killing her all the monsters disappeared, and any greys left, were insignificant gnats.
Don't sell/drop/destroy the collar you get. You will need it at level 25 or so for something else.

Good luck to ye friend.

If you're a theurgist, after you talk to her, run away. She'll stop to momentarily summon some weak summoned spirits. This is your chance to run away and freeze her with bitter grip. Then you can send some pets after her.

At lvl 20 the shaman was blue to me and fell easyly to my theurgest.

The mobs that she creates were sprit solders and were gray to me. Along with them 3 dwarf's join the fight all were gray and fell easyly. This quest is far easier than the lvl 15 quest.

The reward was a staff that adds 6 power and is lvl 18 focus in earth, ice and wind. It con's yellow to me at 20.

You also get a necklace wich you need to hold on to for you lvl 25 epic.

At lev22 my Theurg attacked the Shaman and the skeleton was summoned .. it conned YELLOW.

I read this thread before I did the quest and thought it would be a piece of cake, so I was surprised by the yellow con.

so I guess you should always be careful.
