Dialog from the quest:

1) Speak with Raving Ratalu at loc=38649,29296,21162 dir=182 in Burial Grounds.

Raving Ratalu says, "They are watching me. I can feel their eyes following my every move. They follow my every step, but I always outwit them. They are predators stalking their prey, yet I am too [quick] for their slow wit."

Raving Ratalu says, "Aye, they think I pay no mind, but I always witness them slinking in the corner of my eye. I grow weary of my travels and this game of hiding from their eyes and ears. My time is growing [short] and they will eventually take me."

Raving Ratalu says, "My time cannot pass until the key is returned. It mustn't! Oh wretched fortune, this key must be returned to me! Please Dwarf, aid me in my plight. I am desperate as my time is coming to an end! Will you please find my key and [return] it to me?"

Will you aid Ratalu in retrieving her key? [Level 8]
You have been given the Raving Ratalu and the Secret Chest quest.

Raving Ratalu says, "Merciful gods must be looking down upon me! I thank thee, Dwarf. You're the first soul in ages to ever offer a bit of help to me. My name is Ratalu. The residents of the Undercity call me Raving Ratalu, they do. What's your name?"

/whisper (name)

Raving Ratalu says, "Pleased to meet ye, (name). I never bother myself with those residents, no I don't. They think I'm as crazed as a loon but I know better, and now you'll know better too. Lunacy is but a perception, one may find it hard to distinguish between the rantings of a [Raving Ratalu] and the truth."

[Step #1] Speak with Raving Ratalu.

Raving Ratalu says, "The eyes and ears watching, listening, and waiting are the truth. They wish to seize what is rightfully mine by heir, what I must protect....the chest and the key, they are the truth. I cannot find my burden and my every path is followed when I search. You must find the [key] for me!"

Ratalu glances around nervously.

Raving Ratalu says, "I was but a young girl when I last laid eyes on them. I remember the chest being nothing but a simple wooden box with a metal latch and the key being nothing but a normal key. What is contained in the chest though is anything but ordinary. What the key protects against is of a diabolical nature which my [family] has contained for many years."

Raving Ratalu says, "It was a chest created by one of my great grandfathers. It was said to be full of a wondrous magic until it fell into the wrong hands. The magic inside the box was then twisted into evil. My great grandfather managed to seize the chest again and he kept the chest and key hidden. He realized that in the wrong hands this chest could wreak [chaos] throughout the land. "

Raving Ratalu says, "My great grandfather finally passed and he had the chest buried with him in the Burial Grounds in a place only known to my family. He was working on a special incantation to bind the chest to a hidden location before he passed, but he never had a chance to finish the incantation. This was long ago before the [Burial Grounds] were sealed."

Raving Ratalu says, "After his death, in a last testament, he charged my family to be the bearers of the key. We have since passed this burden on from generation to generation. This myth of the chest and key was eventually spread throughout the land in upper and lower Midgard. My Mother was the last [carrier] of the key."

Raving Ratalu says, "As fate would have it, the evil Darkwood Bandits learned of the legend of the chest and key. They traveled into the Burial Grounds after they were unsealed. They have stirred up the souls inside the Burial Grounds with their grave robbing. They seek to rob and [plunder] anything they can get their hands on and murder anyone who gets in their way."

Raving Ratalu says, "Very shortly after the Darkwood moved into the Burial Grounds they took to spying on my Mother; these bandits have eyes and ears that reach far. It was one fateful eve that my Mother decided that the legend of the chest was too well known. She thought it best to unearth the chest and relocate it. Being a child who was disobedient and unmindful of danger, I traveled along behind my [Mother] on this mission."

Raving Ratalu says, "Norer, the leader of the Darkwood Bandits, learned of my Mother's plan. He had his men slay her before she reached my great grandfather's final resting place. I witnessed the entire ordeal. I also saw a bandit named Hazar steal the key from her dead body and give it to one of his trustees. He must have been the leader of this small group commissioned by Norer. The residents of the Undercity say this event was almost too much for my young mind to grasp. They gossip amongst themselves saying that I am missing something in my mind. What they don't know is that I am not only haunted by nightmares of my Mother's death, but I am haunted by the chest and its evil [contents]."

Raving Ratalu says, "The bandits are aware of my presence and of who I am, which is why I need your assistance. They are searching for the chest and it won't be long before they find it. I do know one thing that can prevent the bandits from taking this chest. As I told you before, my great grandfather was working on an incantation to bind the chest to it's location. This is not a perfect remedy to this baneful chest and its existence, as the spell can be broken, but it is a definite measure to keep it out of the wrong hands. I have delved into the ancient arts and finished the [incantation]."

Raving Ratalu says, "I have imbued the incantation onto a scroll which only you can see. I have also imbued a magical map for you which will disclose the location of my great grandfather's burial place only to you. I dare not utter the location here as the eyes are watching and the ears are listening. So be quiet, Valkyrie, be oh so quiet! You must find and slay the Darkwood Bandit trustee to retrieve the key and then travel to the area noted on the map. I have heard that the trustee lurks inside a burial alcove not far from here. Go west down the stairs, and then south at the landing. At the next landing head west, and then at the next landing south [again]."

Raving Ratalu begins whispering too you.
Raving Ratalu says, "You then need to speak the incantation over my grandfather's final resting place. After the incantation is spoken the chest will be bound to that area, out of the sight, and out of the wrong hands for the time being. You will then need to bring the key to me so that I can return to being the rightful [bearer]."

You receive Ratalu's Enchanted Map from Raving Ratalu!
You receive a Scroll of Incantations from Raving Ratalu!

Raving Ratalu says, "Please go now to complete this duty. I cannot wait here for you as they will [expect] that. "
Raving Ratalu looks around with wild eyes.
Raving Ratalu says, "Meet me in the corridors in the Entry to the Call of Valhalla after you finish everything. Travel north down the stairs past the Entry to the Call of Valhalla and at the landing turnwest. I will be in the burial alcove to the south. I am counting on you to help end this for me, (name). The images of my Mother's death and the dread of what will happen if the chest is discovered has become too much to bear. Chaos will abound if the chest is opened! You must find the chest and key before they do! They are watching me, don't you see! They are watching me! Eyes and ears, watching and listening! "

[Step #2] Go west past Ratalu to the bottom of the stairs. At the landing go south to the next landing and then go west. Once you reach the next landing go south until you reach the burial alcove. Slay the Darkwood trustee to retrieve the key.
  • Darkwood trustee can be found at loc=32589,36195,17085 dir=167 Burial Grounds. When you kill him the Key of Illar will appear in your inventory also NPC Hazar escapes down the tunnel when the trustee is killed (which is significant later in the quest)

  • [Step #3] USE Ratalu's Enchanted Map to disclose the location of her great grandfather's resting place. Go to that area to speak the incantation to bind the chest. (To USE an item right click in the item and type /use).
  • Go to loc=22445,10079,15405 dir=89 Burial Grounds. You will get a pop-up window stating: The map and the script written upon the map flare up in an array of colors. The map dims but the script continues to glow."

  • [Step #3con't] USE the Scroll of Incantations to discover the incantation that you must speak over the hallowed earth. (To Use an item right click on the item and type /use).

You unravel the scroll and you see the words, 'Bjindor sra kis inna sra drys.'

[Step #4] Speak the incantation to bind the chest to the grave of Ratalu's great grandfather. If you forget the incantation USE the Scroll of Incantations again.
  • You may need to move up a tad closer to the crypt, from the loc given, for the incantation to work. All you need to type is /say or /whisper Bjindor sra kis inna sra drys , after that a huge hand will arise in front of the crypt binding the great grandfather to the chest.

  • The ground beneath you rumbles as you recite the incantation.
The map and scroll disintegrate into the air.

[Step #5] Return to Ratalu in the area that she disclosed to you. She can be found in the corridors past the Entry to the Call of Valhalla. Go north down the stairs and at the landing turn west. She will be in the burial alcove to the south.
  • Go to loc=19809,10692,15395 dir=184, you will find Raving Ratalu standing in the middle of the alcove with Hazar beating her up. Careful when entering the room there are angry souls all about that are aggressive and will attack you (to a lvl 9 the con'd green to yellow. When you click on Raving Ratalu you are prompted to Step #6.

  • [Step #6] Slay the Darkwood Bandit Hazar.

Hazar attacks Ratalu and demands, 'Tell me where the chest and key is you raving imbecile!'
Hazar hisses in his last dying breath, 'My men will find the chest and they will slay the key bearer who goes by the name of Ratalu!'
    Hazar dies!

[Step #6 con't] Speak with Ratalu quickly as she may become nervous and run away.

I knew that they would try to spring an attack upon me sooner or later. They heard me in our meeting earlier, (name). Eyes and ears, watching and listening, indeed. Thank you for slaying Hazar and some of those awful bandits. Please return my burden to me now...the key please..."

[Step #6 con't] Give Ratalu the Key of Illar to receive your reward.

Raving Ratalu says, "Thank you, (name). You have restored a small amount of peace to my soul. I must now make myself scarce, even though I must remain in the Burial Grounds to always keep watch over the resting place of the chest. Please take this necklace as reward for your service. May the gods look favorably upon you, Dwarf. Good travels."
