Dialog from the quest:

Speak with Guard Olja at loc=39704,29189,21810 dir=78 Burial Grounds.

Guard Olja says, "Greetings, Dwarf. You look as though you are not one of the underground dwellers. Have you ventured here to aid us against the evil lurking deep below our cities? Maybe you are seeking a change of surroundings as well as some [adventure]?"

Guard Olja says, "Unfortunately, adventures here are never in short supply as of lately. Up until recently, we were residing in our city under Midgard peacefully until an evil army from below launched an attack on our city. Our leader, Odagi, fears this evil force is too great to battle alone, which is why he decided to seek your kind's [succor]."

Guard Olja says, "We had to travel to Jordheim to request assistance from the Gothi and Gythja. Upon making the trip to upper Midgard our forces had to travel through an area that had long ago been sealed. This area is called the [Burial Grounds]."

Guard Olja says, "The Burial Grounds are said to contain the spirits of the great leaders and heroes from upper Midgard. This area was eventually forgotten by the inhabitants of Midgard as they continued to expand their city of Jordheim. Our founders chose to build the Undercity below what was to later become the Burial Grounds. As time went on the Norse arrived in Midgard and settled the land above. Our original ruler, Hallavor, fearing our city would be discovered, ordered the [entrance] leading to the Burial Grounds to be sealed."

Guard Olja says, "They could not take a chance with these strange beings they encountered above ground in Midgard. A new home had finally been found for the Kobolds. This was the first area that was found where the Kobolds could live in peace. We would no longer have to worry about struggling to survive. Mostly, we would no longer live in fear of attacks from hostile beings. Attacks by the hostile Morvaltar was the cause of our original retreat from our home of Aegir in the times of old. This is why the founders were forced to take measures to keep the [outsiders] out."

Guard Olja says, "It had been many years since the trip to the surface of Midgard had been made and part of that trip took the Undercity forces through the Burial Grounds. Some had never traveled through this area at all so of course they became lost. Amidst their confusion and wandering across the sacred grounds, something was awakened in the Burial Grounds. In that small amount of time spent traversing through the abode of the dead, the souls of the dead were [awakened]."

Guard Olja says, "These souls were once at peace but they have become angered at being disturbed by the land of the living. Due to this, the restless spirits of the Burial Grounds have started launching attacks on those who enter their hallowed grounds. They are wrathful and wish to keep all of the living from their domicile of the dead. These souls will pursue any and all who dare to enter their dwelling, even at a cost of dispatching the living to the land of the [dead]."

Guard Olja says, "These attacks have become more frequent recently. These seemingly hollow spirits have become wise to the times of the patrols through the Burial Grounds. It is almost as though they are receiving [information] from a source inside the city."

Guard Olja says, "My instincts tell me that a resident of the Undercity is relaying this information to someone or something in connection to the Burial Grounds. It is imperative that we find out why this is happening and how. The problem must then be dealt with accordingly. Our forces cannot conduct an official inquest into this situation as that would be too obvious to this informant among us. They would find out and take preventive action to keep their secret. Would you care to provide us with [assistance] in discovering the nature of this scheme?"

Will you assist Guard Olja in finding the intriguer? [Level 4]
You have been given the The Intriguer quest.

Guard Olja says, "Thank you, Thane. You are providing a noble service to the forces of Midgard and the Undercity. This will be risky but you will be rewarded for your service should you prove to be successful in this [errand]."

[Step #1] Speak with Guard Olji about the problems occurring in the Burial Grounds.

Guard Olja says, "I have become more watchful due to these increased attacks, and my patrol and I did search the Burial Grounds for any clues in regards to this new activity from the spirits. Our search only uncovered some disturbed earth, almost like footprints, leading off of the path into the Burial Grounds. It is uncommon for any to stray from the path due to the danger lurking about. After we followed the trail we were led to a burial [alcove] but there was nothing else suspicious."

Guard Olja says, "I remembered this path since I know the Burial Grounds well. I made a map to the spot where the trail ended. Your task is to search this area for any clues that could help you determine the cause of these increased [problems] in the Burial Grounds."

Guard Olja says, "Take the map, and be off on your task. Should you find anything of value, continue your quest to find this saboteur. Be wise in your actions, friend; do not let anyone discover your true motive."

You receive a Map of the Burial Grounds from Guard Olja!

[Step #2] USE the map to find the area of the Burial Grounds that Guard Olja spoke about. Once you find the area /search for clues in regards to the spirit attacks in the Burial Grounds. (To USE an item right click on the item and type /use).

[Step #2 con't] /Search the burial alcove for clues. If you get lost USE the map again. (To use an item right click on the item and type /use).

  • Go to loc=37440,34663,19385 dir=185 Burial Grounds, there you will get a pop-up box stating "This area looks similar to that which is drawn on Guard Olja's map. /Search the area."

  • You find a Finely Tailored Cap from your search. Upon picking up the cap you feel some letters sewn onto the inside of it.

[Step #3] /Use the Finely Tailored Cap to see if you can find the name of the owner sewn onto it. The name may give you a clue as to who is giving out the information about guard patrols. (To USE an item right click on the item and type /use).

[Step #3 con't] Seek out those who have Ygdriki in their name. Speak with them to see if you can receive more information as to why the cap was in the Burial Grounds. Try searching for them in the Undercity.

  • Go down to the Kobold Undercity to loc=23319,24480,16845 dir=227 Kobold Undercity. You will find 4 NPC (a few being merchants) with Ygdriki as the prefix of their last name. Thadon Ygdrikis is the main guy you need to speak to, however he will not talk to you until you speak with his wife Myroja Ygdrikisvif, though Dalir Ygdrikisson and Magan Ygdrikisdottir will speak with you as well, not neccessary but the do tell some interesting tales.

  • [Step #3 con't] Go speak with Thadon to continue your inquiry. He may be willing to give you some important information.

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Welcome to our Undercity, Dwarf. I am Thadon Ygdrikisson, the local crafting supply merchant. Ah yes...I know who you are. My wife and family mentioned you in passing; although I am sure my [wife] had some less than kind words to say about me."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "I lost a crafted cap recently, and it was one that she crafted for me. She has been furious with me ever since. I have been avoiding her though, tis' better to let her simmer down. The less she asks me the less I have to tell her, as I can never tell a lie. Nothing like an angry wife bearing down on you like a fire breathing dragon; I would take my [chances] with a dragon to speak the truth."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "I have no idea as to where I lost that Finely Tailored Cap though, and I do feel slightly awful about the whole incident. Say, you would not happen to know where it is would you? It is a cloth cap and has my last name Ygdrikis sewn onto the inside of it...Have you [seen] it or [not]? "
  • It is this question that will change the course of the quest for you. If you say "seen" it then you will end up with extra experience.

  • Thadon Ygdrikis says, "That is wonderful! Do you happen to know where it is, or do you have it by chance?"

[Step #4] Give Thadon the Finely Tailored Cap

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Oh my! Thank you so much! It is strange that you found my cap. Perhaps there was a reason that this [happened]."

    You are awarded 320,000,000 experience!
    Thadon eyes you suspiciously.

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Where did you find my cap? Did you find it in the [city] or [somewhere else]?"
  • Select "somewhere else"

  • Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Aye, I had a feeling that was the case. I knew that someone would discover what was going on before long. I am relieved really, as I hope you can help me end this terrible situation. If you could only understand what I have been put through then you would understand why I was [forced] to do what I did."

[Step #4 con't] Continue speaking with Thadon about his involvement in the increase in attacks in the Burial Grounds.

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "As I was traveling home from one of my trips to Jordheim, I heard someone in the Burial Grounds calling my name. Now that I think back it was a very foolish decision, but I decided to follow the sound of the voice. I thought someone was playing a prank on me. Unfortunately, no one was playing a prank on me, and I was cornered by a terrible presence. I was frozen in fear from the sight of this ghastly [spirit]."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "He actually has a name; he calls himself Vandr. He said that he had been watching me and noticed that I traveled a lot between the Undercity and Jordheim. He demanded that I start relaying the times of the guard patrols through the Burial Grounds to him. He realized that I timed my trade trips as close to the guard patrols as possible, but my trips were not always exact. I have a friend who serves for the Undercity forces so I always obtained this information from him. I did this for safety's sake, but what little good that did me in the end. Vandr wanted exact information. He threatened my family with a fate worse than death if I did not carry out this [treacherous] deed."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "I did what I had to do to protect my family, you must understand that! He said that he would be watching me always and would know if I went to anyone with this information. He did not give me any other information other than that. I do not know why he would want this information, but he is a [vehement] spirit and the hate he has for the living emanates from his presence."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "I want to rid myself of his hateful presence, but alas, I am unable to do this myself. You could help me though. You could actually release me from his evil grip. Please I beg you! You can [defeat] Vandr."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Travel to the area where you found my cap. That is mine and Vandr's meeting place. I will go there and try to [lure] him out of hiding. Once he appears you can slay him."

Thadon Ygdrikis says, "Thank you so much, you are saving my family and I from a terrible presence. Hurry off now as Vandr is expecting me to be in our meeting spot soon. I will be right behind you. Remember to keep yourself hidden in that spot until he appears. I wish you luck."

[Step #5] Return to the Burial Grounds as Thadon instructed. /Use the map Guard Olja gave you to find the spot again. Wait until the spirit Vandar appears. Slay Vandar when he reveals himself. (To use an item right click on the item and type /use).
  • If you chose not to tell Thadon about finding his cap, the journal will tell you to return to Guard Olja, where she will lecture you on her disappointment in you and then tell you to return to the location marked on the map and look for more information. Return to loc=37440,34663,19385 dir=185 Burial Grounds and /USE the map. Note: When you use the map this time you will be teleported into Vandr's Bane.

Once you have zoned move forward just a tad and you will trigger Thadon to run and Vandr chasing him, Vandr will make a b-line to you and attack you. (if you were told to go use the map again by Guard Olja then there will be no Thadon being chased, just go in and kill Vandr.)

  • You spy Thadon, and he notices you. Vandr appears out of nowhere and Thadon runs off.

[Step #5 con't] Slay the spirit Vandr.

In a haze of red Vandr tries to drain you of your spirit.
You receive a Darkwood Brethren Ring from Vandr!

[Step #6] Seek out Guard Rimdar to obtain your reward.
  • Guard Rimdar can be found at loc=37441,33379,19393 dir=267 Burial Grounds.

  • Guard Rimdar says, "Hail, Dwarf. How can Guard Rimdar be of assistance to you? Tell me your name, friend."

    /whisper (name)

Guard Rimdar says, "Oh yes! Guard Olja informed me you would be paying me a visit. I understand that you completed a task for her. Do you happen to have proof of this deed?"

[Step #6 con't] Give Guard Rimdar the Darkwood Brethren Ring as proof of success in your task.

Guard Rimdar says, "Excellent work on your part, but this is not good news. This signet is the symbol of an elusive group of bandits that have made their way into the Burial Grounds. These bandits are of a treacherous kind. They are thieves and murderers. This signet ring is a sign that they are on the prowl inside the Burial Grounds. We can only guess were else they could be [lurking]."

[Step #6 con't] Continue speaking with Guard Rimdar to receive your reward.

Guard Rimdar says, "The V initial on this ring must stand for Vandr. I have heard whisperings of Vandr. He was the worst of them all, and he was disbanded from the roguish group due to his evil nature. I suppose there is some honor, and perhaps dubiety, amongst robbers. So they ostracized him, and he set on his own traveling the Burial Grounds seeking loot and trouble. He was too full of greed and malice to use caution and [return] to upper Midgard though. I suppose the Burial Grounds suited him just fine."

Guard Rimdar says, "Rumors have it that he was killed though the nature of his murder is of an undetermined origin. One never knows what can happen when disturbing the residence of the dead. His soul was destined to never be at rest though. Some never change even when they pass into the realm of the dead; his very soul was full of greed and malice. He carried out his evil ways even after passing into the spirit [world]."

Guard Rimdar says, "I hope that his spirit has been vanquished from the Burial Grounds now, or that it is at least finally at rest. You have definitely performed a deed of courage and greatness for us and for that I will reward you. The residents and Guards of the Undercity give you our deepest thanks."

    You are awarded 38,400 experience!
You are awarded 3 silver and some copper!
You receive the Intriguer's Ring from Guard Rimdar!
You have finished the The Intriguer quest.

(reward, coin and experienced earned by a lvl 49.)
lvl 12 received same as above, though did not give Thadon his cap.
