Birk, a named Hobyah, drops some nice sleeves. He is located on an island with a lot of hobyahs. You will need to kill the hobyah in the center of the island for Birk to spawn. He only spawns at night, and is known to walk NE into the water and over to the mainland, and up the road. You do not need a loc for this. Just go to Huginfell, get a horse ticket to Svasud Faste (the gate castle to the frontier). You go right past the island in the lake just before you get there, and it is easy to run back down from the Faste. It is the only island in the lake, and has this obelisk on it. There is nothing there in the daytime, but Hobyah start showing up around 7pm (till around 6am). They usually spawn in groups of two or three, but never added on me. I just hung out in the lake, and pulled them one at a time all night. They were mostly blue to my lvl 14 shaman, with an occassional yellow.

A satisfied customer speaks (LOL)

I'm a L14 dwarf skald - just killed Birk at 5am - revenge for him killing me at 1am :p

I spent 3 days around the lake area - killing hobyahs on the island by night and vendos on the east lakeshore by day - and never saw Birk. Came back another night (after a few days questing) and he spawned for me. Here's my observations:

- Hobyahs spawn after 7pm and despawn at 6am exactly.
- No more than 4 hobyahs spawned at the same time.
- Spawn points varied: usually up to 4 hobyahs spawned at the south end of the island, often in the water.
- Hobyahs rarely spawned north of the obelisk, so the northern end is a good place to pull and kill them.
- Spawn/respawn times are random and can be slow. Sometimes I'd kill all 4, one after the other (incl. rest time between), and wait... then 4 would spawn simultaneously.
- These hobyahs con yellow/blue to a level 14, so generally a level higher than Racszel's hobyahs by Fort Veldon - make sure you can comfortably kill those before you come to the island.

Birk spawned for me just after 1am next to the Obelisk (east side of it). He conned yellow at L14. 4 other hobyahs were spawned so he doesn't have a placeholder. Birk started moving north immediately after he spawned - which was unfortunate because I was already fighting one of his yellow con friends at the north end. Of course mezz failed /sigh, but when I got back from my bind (Audliten - gah) at around 4am the other 4 hobs were still up, but Birk had gone.

I remembered hearing someone say they'd killed Birk near the road once, so I swam northwest to the shore. I was intending to circle the island, but it was 5am by now so I was running out of time. Luckily I saw Birk as soon as I left the water - he was standing still at the base of the zone-edge mountains (around loc 4400, 9500). Because it was close to the 6am despawn I immediately attacked and killed him. He was fairly easy on his own - same difficulty as the yellow con hobyahs. He dropped the sleeves - 28AF studded, 9str, 6hp, 5% bonus, 100% quality.

Hope this info proves helpful to someone :)

This quest/item can be used/completed by the Savage class!

This quest took me 30 seconds. Went over to the island at 1 AM and killed one Hobyah and over the island came Birk. Killed Birk and got the sleeves!

Birk conned green at level 17 so took about 10 seconds. I killed another Hobyah for the fun of it and Birk popped again so I decided to take him out again.
Just got him

Birk Quest

I waited for Birk off the island on the northeast side of the island which is located at 9800, 12763. There was nothing on the island when Birk popped at around 20h 57m and he immediately went to the Northeast side toward the shore. He conned grey to my lvl 22 hunter and killed him easily. The Birk strength sleeves appear in your inventory. I waited and he spawned again at 3hr 21m but conned green to me this time. Killed him again. Just xp and coin since this is a one time drop. At 0600 all the hobyah disappear on and around the island and then respawn again between 2000 and 0600. I hope this clears any confusion about this quest.

A one time drop is a Magic item dropped by a named moster. You can only get it once.

Finding Birk

If you are near the north end of the island as night falls, birk seems to spawn on the south end and he walks to the north end before walking to the shore and circling the lake. I was there with my shammy as the sun went down and he was in the initial spawn. Hope that helps

If there is a max level (which I doubt since no other quest seems to have a max level) it is at least 23 since that's the level my healer finally spotted and killed Birk to get the sleeves. (Not useful while hunting but any and all strength boosts are welcome when lugging tons of metal bars to the forge.)

I went to the island and killed a few Hobyah's. While resting Birk attacked me from behind. I killed him and all he dropped was a bag of coins. Im a lvl 14 warrior. Anyone know what the deal is?

anyone have got a loc for this quest?
Killed him tonight
# Mar 31 2002 at 12:38 AM Rating: Default
When I found him I was on the road that runs right next to the lake so he had probably wandered out there. I wasn't even searching for him. He was near an area where some Vendo's spawned on a mountain wall (not the vendo camp)

# Jun 01 2002 at 10:29 AM Rating: Default
It looks like you need to be level 14 to spawn Birk. I camped there with my level 13 warrior and couldn't spawn Birk. After leveling to 14 found him right away.

Is the zone for this wrong? There's only one island in Mularn and nothing spawns there.
what island?
# Mar 16 2002 at 10:38 AM Rating: Default
The only body of water in the vale of Mularn has an island with nothing on it. Where is the island?
UGGGGGGGGG
# Mar 15 2002 at 3:38 PM Rating: Default
The island is heavily camped by people looking for these sleeves. I've spent a long time, & never seen Birk spawn. I've also heard something about how stepping onto the island causes his spawn timer to re-set, or something, & so people who camp him can always be found floating in the lake near the island, instead of on it. I don't know if that part is true, it's just what I've been told.

Also, I've been told that the minimum level is 16 for this drop.
