DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Go to Cornwall Station.
Outside the door to the building you will see Commander Hayward, with a couple of what look like little pixies dancing about his feet.

Go visit Lady Kristianna at the top of Adribard Keep.

She gives you a horse ticket for Campacorentin Station.
Use it to go there, then go to Lethantis Association and visit Mairi Ralilden there.
She is in the right-hand side spur as you enter.

She gives you a horse ticket to Adribards Retreat and one to Western Cornwall.

Use the first to go to Adribards Keep.

Once there use the second to head to Western Cornwall.
As you pass Cornwall Station jump off the horse and return to Commander Hayward.

Run down the road to the Yarley farm at Western Cornwall.

Speak to Byron Yarley.

Go back up the road a bit and you will find plenty of Cornish Hens on the eastern side of the road.
Kill one and return the corpse to him.

Head back to Cornwall Station.

Just to the north-west of the Station you will find the ruins of a church.

You will see an Alchemy Table against the ruins of a wall at the northern side.

Behind this wall you will find Theurgist Arkyn with one of his Animated Pets.

He conned yellow and neutral to my level 31 Reaver, and his pet conned green and aggressive.

When I got within range his pet attacked and he started summoning more and casting spells at me. Fortunately I killed him before he had summoned more than one extra blue dot pet, and I was down to 50% HP. All his pets died with him.

Return to Commander Hayward at Cornwall Station.

I received 7 gold, but missed noting how much experience I got.

I also received 2 magic items, Hayward's Cookie and Hayward's Gem of Strength.

Quest Dialog submitted by Rojer of Igraine

[Step #1] Go to Cornwall Station. Outside the door to the building you will see Commander Hayward, with a couple of what look like little pixies dancing about his feet. Speak to Commander Hayward.

Commander Hayward says, "Hello, Reaver. What brings you to this remote part of [Albion]?"

Commander Hayward's eyes narrow a bit.

Commander Hayward says, "In case you can't tell, I'm new here. I've been sent to take command of Cornwall Station and turn around this sorry outfit. They think that just because they're a long way from Camelot, that lax discipline is permitted. Ah, [Camelot]'"

Commander Hayward sighs at the mention of Camelot. You can tell he misses the city.

Commander Hayward says, "You see, I was a Senior Commander of the Guard in Camelot, but my assignment was abruptly changed. It seems a member of the Court has taken a dislike to me, and lobbied for me to be sent as far away from the city as possible. The good Lady got her way, and here I am at the last outpost of civilization in [southern] Albion."

Commander Hayward says, "She believes I said something insensitive about her. I think she's just being too sensitive, but you can't say that to a noblewoman, believe me. Anyway, I'm here, whether I deserve it or not. I'm determined to make the best of it, and make my triumphant return from exile once I turn this place [around]."

Commander Hayward says, "There are only a couple of small problems standing in my [way]."

Commander Hayward says, "It seems that my post's only magician, Theurgist Arkyn, has deserted. I've doubled my patrols and they are talking to the locals, but we haven't had much luck. As if that wasn't enough, my entire collection seems to have [revolted]!"

Commander Hayward says, "I am a collector of magical oddities. I have a self-animating broom to clean my quarters, a sealed box that preserves any food I store in it, and even a prototype self-propelled carriage! A few days ago, they all started to [malfunction]."

Commander Hayward says, "The broom flies around aimlessly, the box refuses to seal, and my carriage leaks all over the place, and these little automatons won't stop taunting me! They're supposed to obey, not zap me with their [magic]!"

Commander Hayward says, "Anyway, I've prepared a letter to the manufacturer of these devices, detailing these horrendous defects and the catastrophic failures I've experienced. I don't have the time to deliver the letter myself. Perhaps you'd be willing to help me?"

Will you help Commander Hayward with his letter-writing campaign? [Level 30]

[Step #2] Accept the Quest

Commander Hayward says, "Oh, what a relief. Let me get that letter for you. Before you bring it to Mairi in Lethantis, take it to my old friend, Lady Kristianna in Adribard's Retreat. If she adds her seal to the letter, Mairi is more likely to take it seriously."

[Step #3] Go visit Lady Kristianna at the top of Adribard's Keep and speak to her.

You introduce yourself to Lady Kristianna and explain that her old friend, Commander Hayward, sent you to ask her for a favor.

Lady Kristianna says, "Hayward, you [say]?"

Lady Kristianna rolls her eyes.

Lady Kristianna says, "This isn't about another of his letter-writing campaigns, is it? I like Commander Hayward, I really do, but this has to stop. Every time something negative happens to him, he's penning a letter before you can blink. I shudder to think of how much ink that man goes through in a [month]."

Lady Kristianna says, "It's true! Everything from problem cadets to poor quality ale merits a scathing letter. Commander Hayward has no problem making his feelings known. What is this latest one about, I wonder? May I read the letter?"

[Step #4] Give Lady Kristianna the letter.

Lady Kristianna says, "Oh dear, I should've known something like this would happen. Mixing Hayward and magic is just asking for trouble. He may seriously need help this time. I'll seal the letter for you, but when you see Hayward, gently remind him that I won't do this [again]."

Lady Kristianna says, "I'll have the letter for you in a moment. You'll need to take it to Mairi Ralilden in Lethantis. To make the delivery easier, I'll include a horse ticket. Simply hand it to the stable master standing next to the tower on the road outside of the [keep]."

Lady Kristianna says, "Here is the letter. Give this ticket to Stable Master Grank and he will lend you one of his horses. Lethantis is right next to Campacorentin Station. Good luck to you, Rojer, and let Hayward know I'm always willing to help as long as no letters are involved."

Receive a horse ticket and the letter back from Lady Kristianna.

[Step #5] Take a horse to Campacorentin Station and go to Lethantis Association to see Mairi Ralilden.
She is in the right-hand side spur as you enter. Speak with her.

Mairi Ralilden says, "Greetings, Reaver. What can I do for [you]?"

You tell Mairi Ralilden that you've been sent to deliver a letter from one of her most loyal customers.

Mairi Ralilden says, "You wouldn't be talking about Commander Hayward, by chance, would you? He's fond of sending us letters about our products. Unfortunately, most of his correspondence seems to be about problems he's [encountered]."

Mairi Ralilden says, "May I have the letter?"

[Step #6] Give the letter to Mairi Ralilden.

Mairi Ralilden says, "Hmm' This certainly sounds odd. I've never heard of this happening before. We put all of our products through a rigorous testing process before releasing them for sale. The only possible explanation for this is outside [interference]."

Mairi Ralilden says, "Perhaps Commander Hayward has made an enemy of a magician with some skill in manipulating animated objects? The techniques we use are very similar to the ones that Theurgists employ to bind and direct [elementals]."

Mairi Ralilden says, "A skilled Theurgist might well be capable of this kind of sabotage. I recommend returning to Commander Hayward quickly and seeing if he can identify who might have done this before this magician decides to do something more [dangerous]."

Mairi Ralilden says, "I'll give you a couple of horse tickets to aid in your travel back to Cornwall. Give the Adribard's Retreat ticket to Ridder in Campacorentin Station. Once you arrive in Adribard's Retreat, give the remaining ticket to Grank."

Receive a horse ticket to Adribard's Retreat and one to Western Cornwall and the letter back from Mairi Ralilden.

[Step #7] Use the first to go to Adribard's Keep. Once there use the second to head to Western Cornwall. As you pass Cornwall Station jump off the horse and return to Commander Hayward and speak with him.

You tell Commander that you delivered his letter to Mairi Ralilden, omitting that she was not very happy to receive it. Hayward frowns when you explain that Mairi Ralilden believes the problems with his devices do not stem from a manufacturing defect. You pass along Mairi's suggestion that an angry spellcaster might be maliciously interfering with Hayward's devices.

Commander Hayward says, "An angry spellcaster? That could be tied to Theurgist Arkyn's disappearance. What could've prompted this? He wasn't far from the end of his service, but he didn't take too kindly to the changes I've instituted around [here]."

Commander Hayward says, "This makes Theurgist Arkyn's disappearance an even larger issue. We haven't had any luck tracking him down. Perhaps you would speak to some of the local farmers? I know that the Yarley family is not too keen on Albion, but maybe Bryon will talk to you."

[Step #8] Run down the road to the Yarley farm at Western Cornwall and speak to Byron Yarley.

Bryon Yarley says, "Whad'ya want [stranger]?"

You tell Bryon Yarley that you're seeking information on Theurgist Arkyn, who appears to have deserted his post.

Bryon Yarley says, "I dunno why you'd think I'd be offerin' you any kinda help. Askin' about th' Theurgist as good as says yer sent that C'mander Hayward up in th' [Station]."

Bryon Yarley says, "We're none too fond of Cam'lot down 'ere, if you catch my meanin'. Long as they stay out of our bus'ness things'll be jus' [fine]."

You explain to Bryon Yarley that a renegade Theurgist running loose in the Cornish countryside is only likely to draw more attention from Camelot as time passes. Suggesting that his help might prevent this, you get Bryon to grudgingly agree with you.

Bryon Yarley says, "Fine. Maybe we can make a lil' deal, jus'tween us. Bring me the meat of a Cornish Hen an' we'll talk bus'ness. They roam the open country to th' east of here, in front of th' old Roman Villa."

[Step #9] Go back up the road a bit and you will find plenty of Cornish Hens on the eastern side of the road. Kill one and return the corpse to Byron.

Bryon Yarley says, "D'you have th' hen? Hand it t'me."

[Step #10] Give the Cornish Hen corpse to Bryon.

Bryon Yarley says, "Ah, that's a nice one, that is. Now, as to th' Theurgist yer askin' after. He came by 'ere not too long ago, but we told 'im we had no int'rest in runaway soldiers of Albion. It's been said that he took up res'dence in that ol' church near the [Station]."

Bryon Yarley says, "Mention'd somethin' about a workshop. If I were you, I'd bring along a friend. Ne'er know what nasty tricks a spellcaster has up 'is sleeve. If it means Cam'lot keeps its nose outta our bus'ness, then I wish you good luck in yer hunt."

[Step #11] Head back to Cornwall Station. Just to the northwest of the Station you will find the ruins of a church. You will see what looks like an Alchemy Table against the ruins of a wall at the northern side. Behind this wall you will find Theurgist Arkyn with one of his Animated Pets. Kill him and return to Commander Hayward at Cornwall Station.
  • Theurgist Arkyn conned yellow and neutral to my level 31 Reaver and his pet conned green and aggressive. When I got within range his pet attacked and he started summoning more pets and casting spells at me. Fortunately I killed him before he had summoned more than one extra blue dot pet, and I was down to 50% HP. All his pets died with him.

  • Commander Hayward says, "You're back"! Were you able to locate Theurgist Arkyn and determine whether or not he's responsible for the problems with my [automatons]?"

You tell Commander Hayward that you located Theurgist Arkyn and killed him. Describing the renegade Theurgist's makeshift laboratory, you tell Hayward that you found automatons resembling the Commander's and that Arkyn was responsible for the malfunctions.

Commander Hayward says, "So it was him! I wondered why my toys suddenly stopped taunting and zapping me. That must have been when you killed the Theurgist. I'm so relieved that everything's back under control. I'll be sure to mention you in my next [report]."

Commander Hayward says, "Which will, coincidentally, be my last report from Cornwall. While you were gone, a dispatch rider arrived saying that I'm to receive a commendation and my choice of duty stations for my work in turning around this post! As for you, Rojer, a [reward] is in order."

Commander Hayward says, "Ah, yes, your reward. This gem has brought me good luck since I was a green recruit. I hope it does the same for you. In a moment, you can have one of my famous [cookies]."

Commander Hayward says, "Oh, no! The cookies. I think they're burnt! Well, that's ok, I guess. Try one anyway."

You receive 7 gold, and ??? experience. You receive Hayward's Cookie and Hayward's Gem of Strength
