DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

You can do this quest in several zones and it is an easy low level weapon upgrade. There is more than one NPC who gives it. Cherts drop from multiple low level mobs. Bring one back and he will make you a weapon:

Thin Chert = flint dirk
Flat Chert = flint knife
Round chert = flinthead club

Stonemason Harwin says, "Greetings, I'm the master of stonemason hereabouts. You look in need of a decent [weapon]. Perhaps I can help you in that regard, though it may put you in a bit of danger."

Stonemason Harwin says, "Aye, though you may scoff at the idea, stone weapons, if made correctly can be quite effective. I can make a [knife], a [club], or a [dirk] depending on the shape of the [chert] I start with."

Stonemason Harwin says, "Ahh, a slasher are ye? Well, in order to make a knife I'll first need a flat [chert]. If you bring me one I should be able to make a knife for ye."

Stonemason Harwin says, "A crushing weapon?" Squeamish at the site of a little blood, eh? I suppose I can make you a club if you bring me a round [chert]."

Stonemason Harwin says, "Ok, I should be able to manage a dirk for you. I'll need a thin [chert] though to get the best thrusting action. If you bring me one I'll make you a dirk."

You receive a flinthead club from Stonemason Glover!

This quest does NOT show in your journal and is repeatable.

Flat Chert= Flint Knife

Thin Chert=Flint Dirk
You have to give the mason the right chert to get the right weapon. Hope that helps.
flint weapon cash

i did the quest several tim es because i found the cash for selling weapons was pretty decent about 75 copper per weapon so i would go and kill several at a time get the cherts and then when it was time to train i would get my flint weapons and sell them. it is a good way to ge some decent cash at a low lvl regardless of your class.

When you speak to one of the stone masons they will tell you about cherts and mention that they are dropped by spriggarns, spritelings, and imps. Good hunting.

I know about this but is there a thing like this for cloth armor? I got some spider silk from a giant spider and i don't know what to do with it, its not a task or quest item and it doesn't sell, so can i give it to somebody and mabie get silk armor?

Want cloth at lvl 2? (That is the lvl requirement of this, the Flint Weapons quest after all.) Kill skellies! To the best of my knowledge, in every realm in the game, plain old low-level skellies (and some other humanoid mobs)drop both cloth and leather-class armor...and give exp at lvl 2.

It's the 1st thing I do with every character I roll out: kill skellies, bandits, zombies, or whatever appropriately-conned mob looks like it might wear pants till I am dressed. Then, kill other stuff and see what drops whatever may sell better.

Hope it helps.

I don't think there is a level cap for this quest. I don't even consider this as a quest. In any event, when mobs drop cherts, just go to that smith in Cotswold and hand him the chert, and he will hand you back a 1hb weapon depending on the type of chert you give him. I've been doing this right up to lvl 13, and he seems content at exchanging 1hb weapon for a chert :)

You are right that quest items drop in your bag even if prey are gray (:-)) but it doens't apply to the everlasting quests, like this one or the bandits ears one.

The zombie pigs from Gronyr's farm near Prydwen Keep is another everlasting quest.

What is an everlasting quest? How do you tell if a quest is everlasting? Does this mean that for this quest, if the MOB is grey to you...you will not get the chert?
RE: Avendale
# Oct 18 2001 at 8:06 PM Rating: Default
An everlasting quest is a quest you can do as long as the mob doesn't turn gray on you, over and over again. I think the flint weapon is a necglected source of income in that respect ;-). Aye, no drop after they go gray.

A good way to tell is to look in your quest journal or type /quest. An everlasting quest will not be listed there. This is the case of the flint weapons and the bandit ears. These types of quests fall somewhere in between Quests and Tasks and are not considered either of these. In these cases, the "quest" relies on normal drops (like the cherts and ears) and so cannot be done when they are grey.

Actual quests (the ones listed in your quest journal) can be done on grey mobs because they technically do not "drop" the quest item, it just appears in your inventory.

Hope this helps!

The ears is... more of a quest, that isn't listed... since it Does put the ear in your pack only on the first bandit.... nd you have to take the write to cotswald... this is limited experience talking, but that's what I saw when doing it.

In Cotswolds Village there was a stone smyth that was between two buildings on the left side as you run toward the bridge. He gave the quest to me. I was fortunate that I knew to save cherts when I was the level to get them. I wasn't able to find the NPC to turn them in to until I was level 8.

i wanted to do this quest, but i think that the spreggarns and other things that drop the cherts are gray to me. From what i know of this game so far, if the mob is gray, it won't drop any loot. So it's impossible for me to do this quest now unless i can buy a chert from another person. Is this correct?
RE: Avendale
# Oct 15 2001 at 12:07 AM Rating: Decent
It will not drop loot, but it *will* drop quest items. I just killed some stuff for a quest (midgard quest) that was grey two me and got the quest items. (2 quests actually, so I verified it). So feel free to do the quest!
RE: Avendale
# Nov 04 2001 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
This is a bounty quest though. So he won't get the items placed in inventory. A bounty quest requires dropped loot. So the only way to do this quest once these mobs are grey is buy a chert from another player. There is no XP reward or cash reward for doing this quest and the weapon given for the chert sells to vendors for the same price as the chert. If the mobs are grey to you the weapons probably aren't going to be something worth using for long anyway.

If i remember correctly some (all?) of the weapons can be used in the left hand so if you're a Merc or other dual-wield class, Bank 'em for later.
