Talk to Prophetess Sybil, who's by the pigsty at the south side of town ( 49.6, 55.8).

She wants to "send a message" to Surt, and needs you to get three things for her: a statue that has been buried under a tree, a blodfelag signet, and the carapace of a wood eater worker.

She and the quest log say that the tree is "nearby." The red dot on your map which the new miniquests give doesn't help much, since the other targets are spread out and in any case you probably have several of these quests open at once - it's a lot more efficient that way. In fact, the tree is a huge pine a quarter zone away, West past the blodfelag town at 35,433 51,409. The pile of Dirt (Soil) is under the NE side at the coordinates given. Other than the misdirection, it's conveniently located to your other targets.

Right click the Dirt (Soil) to dig up the statue (nothing appears in your real inventory, just a check mark in the quest journal), and knock off a blodfelag in their town to the East and a wood eater worker just West of the tree.(Again, nothing actually appears in your inventory for these either.)

Return to Sybil and she gives you a nominal reward plus your choice of 3 cloaks for piety, strength, or dexterity.

rewards: 1,417 exp, 3 silver and some change and your choice of:

Recruit's Wise Cloak
Recruit's Hardy Cloak
Recruit's Spry Cloak

Sybil then sends you with a note to Garu, who's by the bindstone in the middle of Vasudheim. He gives you and additional reward:

reward: 1,215 xp; 5 silver and some change

Rewards:
  Recruit's Hardy Cloak
  Recruit's Spry Cloak
  Recruit's Wise Cloak

The quests frequently make interesting use of the word "nearby". ;)

For what it's worth, the marker dot on the map takes you within rather close visual distance of the pile of "Soil".
