Macalena gives you a rumor that Throgil needs help. The quest starts with Thorgil, not Macalena. But in case you need to see her for the rumor, she is in Haggerfel.

Macalena says, "Thorgil seems to be having some problems with the tomtes. Go listen to his story in Audliten."

Thorgil says, "Tomtes, tomtes, tomtes! I'll be so glad if I never see another [tomte] in my life!"

Thorgil says, "I'm sorry for the outburst, but these tomtes continue to frustrate me. At one time, the tomtes were actually friendly but now all they do is cause trouble and heartache for the races of Midgard. But you don't want to hear an old man complain about some pests, do you? No one wants to hear about the problem I must now solve because of them. I'm sure you have better things to do. One day I will find someone [willing to listen] to my story and give me a had with my tomte problem."

Dialog box: Will you take the time to listen to Thorgil's tale and help him with his problem?

You have been giving the Tomte Problems quest.

[Step #1] Talk with Thorgil of Audliten about his problems with the tomtes.

Thorgil says, "What? You want to hear my story? I shall be in your debt for just that small favor you grant me now. I am a farmer, or at least I was. I once worked the land not far down the road from here. My house still stands there, but it is infested by those vile creature, the tomtes. But as I said, they weren't always that way. A very long time ago, they [became friendly] with the first settlers that moved into this region."

Thorgil says, "When the first settlers came to this land, the first creatures they encountered were the tomtes. No one had ever seen the strange little men before and were unsure of how they would react to the settlers. The settlers watched the tomtes from afar and observed that they were rather crafty when it came to building things. The settlers, new to the land, knew they would need the help of the tomtes if they were to survive. But the tomtes were unsure of these invaders and they [refused] to have anything to do with the settlers."

Thorgil says, "It was completely by accident that the tomtes ended up helping the settlers. One of the settlers had left a freshly baked loaf of bread cooling beside the camp fire while she went off into the woods to collect some more firewood. While she was gone, one of the tomtes crept into
the camp and tried the strange food. The bread was like nothing he had tasted before and he wanted more. He noticed the water skins of the woman were empty, and he took them and [refilled them]."

Thorgil says, "The woman was very surprised when she came back to find here bread gone but here water skins filled. That night, out of curiosity, she left more bread out, along with a broken cooking pan and went to sleep. In the morning she found the bread gone but the pan fixed. She told the other settlers about it, and they did the same thing, with the same results. Leaving bread would result in some chore being done, but no one was sure
[who was doing] the chores."

Thorgil says, "The settlers set up a watch and discovered that the tomtes
were the ones helping them. The settlers continued to leave bread and other things for the tomtes as they began to farm the land and the tomtes seemed to accept that these few people would be sharing the land with them. They even began to adopt certain farms, including my ancestor's farm. But then more people starting settling in the area, and soon it became [very crowded] for the tomtes."

Thorgil says, "As more people moved in and took up the land, the tomtes were
pushed to smaller and smaller areas and the original settlers over time forgot about their little tomte friends. The tomtes grew angry and began to do malicious things to the people living in and around here. Some of us were lucky enough to keep the good favor of the tomtes. My ancestor was one of those people, and up until recently I had tomtes helping myself and my family with our chores but one day that [all changed]."

Thorgil says, "The tomtes that we had been friendly with suddenly turned vicious, destroying things, hurting my family, tearing up my fields, and hurting the animals I kept. We tried to appease them with bread and other things, but they would take nothing we offered. We stayed as long as we could, but when they attacked my wife and daughter, it was enough. We gathered up everything we could and fled here to Audliten. My wife is currently in Jordheim visiting her sister, and my daughter is off playing somewhere. I remain here to keep an [eye on things]."

Thorgil says, "Don't tell my wife this, but when we fled, I left our chest of jewels and money there in the house. I didn't mean to, but we left in such a hurry. I'd go back and get it, but I will not leave my daughter and I cannot take her with me, because the tomtes have overrun the house. I need you to go into the house and get the chest I've hidden there. It's filled with all the treasured things I own. I also need you to do [one other thing] for me."

Thorgil says, "I seem to have lost the key to the chest. As we fled the house, I slipped it into my pocket for safe keeping, but I think it fell out when a tomte grabbed my leg and made me fall. I remember hearing something metal hit the wooden floor of the porch, but I didn't have time to look. The tomte scavengers were hurting me, so I just got up and ran for my life. Please, go to my old house and recover my chest of jewels. Once I have it and the key, I will open the box and give you something nice from it. My farm is not far from here. Go east down the road and over the stone bridge. The house lies on the south side of the road. Please, get the key and search the house for the chest. Thank you."

[Step #2] Get the key from the tomte scavengers that roam outside Thorgil's house. To get to his house, follow the road east out of town and over the bridge. His house lies to the south.

Go to the house to the east of the town and kill the 1 to 3 tomte scavengers in
front of the house. You may get it one the first kill, you may get it second or third.

The tomte scavenger says, "Ha-ha! You thought I had the key but I don't! I gave it to another when I saw you approach! Try again!"

The tomte scavenger says, "Oh no! You found the key! A (your class here) found the key! No no no!"

You receive a chest key from the tomte scavenger!

[Step #3] Search Thorgil's house to find the hidden chest of jewels.

Walk into the house and search for the chest of jewels. You may have to right click here and there. I did it over by the pot.

You search Thorgil's house for the chest of jewels.
You found Thorgil's chest of jewels!

You receive a chest of jewels from Thorgil's house!

[Step #4] Return to Thorgil in Audliten.

Thorgil says, "You seemed to have fared better with the tomtes than I have. Were you able to get the key from hem? My wife came by while you were gone and wanted to get something out of the chest, but I was able to distract her. Please, give me the key now."

[Step #5] Give Thorgil the chest key.

You give the chest key to Thorgil.

Thorgil says, "Thank you. Now, this key will do me no good unless you were able to locate the chest of jewels in my house. Please give me the chest now."

[Step #6] Give Thorgil the chest of jewels.

Give the chest of jewels to Thorgil.

Thorgil takes the chest and unlocks it with the key. He looks inside, sighs with relief, then closes it with a smile.

Thorgil says, "I am in your debt. You have saved me from hearing my wife rant and rave about having lost both the key and the box. I would like to know who provoked the tomtes to turn on me. I am going to try to find out more as to why they changed. I may have need of your services again soon.. Until then, I have the perfect reward for you. This chest is filled with many wonderful things I've collected over the years and I am more than willing to give you one of the trinkets I have in here. I just need to know [something from you]."

[Step #7] Choose a reward from Thorgil.

Thorgil says, "Would you like something that would add to you [magical power], your [strength], your [dexterity] or your skill with a [sword]? I can only give you one, so think carefully before you make your choice."

(obviously at this point the next part will change depending on the prize
chosen)

    Uthgard info.

    For those playing Uthgard 2.0

Consider that as Berserkers for example, your level 11 quest from your trainer in Jordheim will reward Berserkers with a fantastic Necklace. So because you will get that necklace as a Berserker at level 11, its probably not a good idea to choose the necklace reward as a Bers from this quest. Perhaps choose the ring instead.

Just an FYI, always check your upcoming class quests so you don't bypass a great quest reward that would have been of more use to you.

Just wondering if any Gaheris Hibbies or Albions have been able to finish or even start this quest?

When I was level 5 (this quest doesnt start till level 6) I managed to initiate conversation with him but of course he did not give me the quest. When I dinged 6 I tried again but Thorgil does not want to talk to me (silly bugger).

So I was wondering if any other Hibbies or Albies have problem with this quest?

And incase you guys are wondering, Gaheris is a co-opt server and Gaheris folks can complete (some) quests that are not in their own realm.

Start zone is off. Macalena is in Haggerfel in Vale of Mularn.

I looked everywhere for her in Svealand East then went to the web and finally found her. It was late so I will confirm her exact location the next time I am on.
