DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Basically this quest involves searching deep within the new areas of Varulvhamn and killing 3 WW lords and the King.

The quest runs briefly as follows:

To obtain the quest at Level 43 or above, head to Vindsaul Faste and speak with the Gothi of the Juton. He will instruct you to head to Gna Faste and speak with Averrius who is located on the top level inside the hut.

He will explain to you about the situation and request that you retrieve a werewolf direction sense charm off a Wolfaur Headsman. The headsmen can be found inside the first hut within the ravine inside Skona, just before the bridge (seen around loc= 25728/32840).

They conned blue to me at 45 and have a friendly faction since I killed so many werewolves during my leveling. Your Wolfaur faction is always the opposite of your Werewolf faction - they are at opposition with each other. You can either kill the Wolfaur (if your faction is bad) or talk with it to obtain the sense charm.

Head back to Averrius and give him the charm, and he will explain to you that you need to head into Varulvhamn to kill the 3 lords and retrieve their essences.

Varulvhamn is down the end of the ravine in skona on the SW of the ravine. The lords are all situated within the new
area. Kill each lord in turn (they all conned yellow to me at 45) and take each essense to the Altar (you will know you are in the correct place as the zone area name will change) and hotkey it, hold your use button and click it. This will convert it to a gem. Do this in turn for each lord.

The lords are not particularly difficult, however we did it in a group of 4 with 2 skalds, 49 and 45 (me), a 50 healer and 45 thane. The mobs mostly con blue/yellow to me and are annoying at best. The lords con yellow and are more difficult than their con would suggest, so best to take people with you.

Once all 3 gems are collected, head back to Averrius and he will ask for some belladonna, to complete the mix. Head outside to the arrow merchant and she will tell you to kill a mud crab warrior in Vanern.

Head back to Averrius and he will ask you for your weapon choice. Once complete, he requests that you kill the Werewolf King, Hresveigr.

King Hresveigr is found in the new section of Varulvhamn as well within a very nice regal region of the cave. Mobs to kill on the way all con yellow/blue - there was only one orange to 45. The king himself stands alone in a room. He appears as an orange con troll. Bring people with you for this one. Attack him first as a troll and he's relatively easy, standard orange con mob - however when you kill him he reappears as a large WW and attacks immediately. This time he's a very strong orange con mob that nukes and has a type of damage shield.

Once you kill him you are rewarded with a bundle of experience which equates to about half-3/4 of a bub (I got 750 million or so at level 45, my level 49 skald friend got 1.3 billion) - and the quest is complete! The weapon is a handy mid 40's 100% quality weapon with proc if you don't have one already.

A friend of mine chose the 1h and got the same name, only it said sword not 2H sword.

You can select from a number of weapons: 1 handed sword, axe or hammer; 2 handed sword, axe or hammer; or a bow (w/ 20 arrows). You do not need to kill the King to receive the reward; you can kill him at a later time. I did this quest solo (for the most part) at lvl 47; the high lords (3 total) all con'd yellow; however, each fought like a high orange. I could not solo
one high lord -- Moldolfr; I suggest you a bring a friend for him.

Rewards:
  Varulbane Two-handed Sword
  Varulbane Sword
  Varulbane Axe
  Varulbane Two-handed Axe
  Varulbane Claws
  Varulbane Spear
  Varulbane Two-handed Hammer
  Varulbane Hammer
  Varulbane Staff
  Varulbane Arrows
  Varulbane Bow

Altar of Lyceaon was a few turns away at a dead end with one of those vertical tunnel/pipe-like things in the middle that looks like a small table (kind of).

19412, 17998 is the exact location

It's just another one of those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pipe ends coming out of the floor, but not guarded by wolfies.

Did this last night with my 46 SB and 46 Shammy and have some notes:

1) I got xp twice during this quest - once when I located Varulvhamn (79.5 million) and second when I killed the king (943 million).

2) Take a map of Varul with you when you go if you don't know your way around. It is very confusing in that area and you could be running around for hours looking for the Lords otherwise.

3) After you kill each Lord, go to the Alter and make sure *every* person in your group uses the essence and gets a jewel. If 1 person doesn't do it or if you kill another Lord before getting the gem, you will have to kill the Lords you missed again. I've done this quest twice and messed this part up both times and ended up spending far more time backtracking than I wanted.

4) When pulling a Lord, first pull enough of his advisors so that someone can pull him out of the room. If you try to fight him in the room, you may get popped on. Once you have him in the hall, only melees should be near him - all others should stand back a bit because they insta PBAE their attacks at times.

5) When I fought the king, he started in his werewolf form and not his troll form. Also, I took him down with just my SB with one or two heals and some disease removal from my shammy. That's *much* easier than he was previously. Maybe I just got lucky, but I've never taken him down so fast.

6) Unless you need the weapon and have a map of Varul, this quest will likely take too much time to be worth it. I spent about 3 hours on it and only got a bubble of xp for each of my toons.

7) When I went to find the wolfaur headsman, he was wandering around near the bridge not in a house.

1.53 has this quest.

When in his second form, the king is a pain. Has damage add, damage shield, can nuke, and disease. Bring a friend or two.
