Per Patch 1.62:

- Fylara's Armor - In response to player concerns about the long wait for broodmothers, we have decreased the wait time between broodmother spawns.

Fylara MacKieran says, "Hail, Druid. I am Fylara MacKieran, armor-maker for Comor Mac Gwion and my father, Lughaidh MacKieran. I've been making armor since I was a child. My mother taught me how to sew and my uncle Monaghan taught me how to forge armor. When I was old enough, I learned old secrets to make armor that is better than what you can buy from the merchants. My father was most pleased with my skills and [intriduced me] to Conor Mac Gwion."

Fylara MacKieran says, "Conor was impressed with my skills and immediately put me to work making armor for his army. When Conor led his forces here to Hy Brasil to aid the Sylvan, I made sure I was one of the first here. I have always made my armor from natural things, and I knew I would [find new things] here to use in my armor."

Fylara MacKieran says, "The bars of the trees, the hides of animals, and various parts of the wild creatures that roam the land - all these things became potential parts of armor. I studied things and tried out different combinations until I was happy. I took my creations to my father and asked him to pass them on to Conor for his opinion. Conor was most pleased and charged me with [making enough] for the entire army!"

Fylara MacKieran says, "That wouldn't be such a problem except that Conor's army us huge! I have been trying my best to collect the items I need to make this armor, but I've been having trouble. They are fairly rare items and it takes a long time to make even one piece of armor. I could use someone to gather the items while I finish up the pieces I'm working on. Do you [know of anyone] that could help me?"

Dialog box: Will you help Fylara MacKieran make armor for Conor Mac Gwion's army?

You have been given the Fylara's Armor quest.

Fylara MacKieran says, "You want to help? That is wonderful! In exchange for helping me, I will give you this piece of armor I'm finishing up. But I need you to replace the items I'm using right nowso that Conor will not become angry at me for giving away a piece of his army's armor. [One of the pieces] is fairly easy to get, but the other is more difficult."

[Step #0] Talk with Fylara MacKieran to find out what is needed for the armor.

Fylara MacKieran says, "The first thing you need to get is the tongue of a gorge shriller. Their tongues are tough and hold well in battle. I have begun using them to reinforce the hinges of scale armor. You will find these creatures if you cross the wooden bridge near here and head north. I will not lie to you; getting the tongue will be the easy part. Have you heard of [the ixthiar]?"

Fylara MacKieran says, "They are vile creatures, bent on destroying anything that gets in their path. They hate all Sylvan and their allies but I've found that [a certain kind] of ixthiar has a carapace that makes very good reinforcements for armor."

Fylara MacKieran says, "I speak of the ixthiar broodmothers. They are elusive creatures, but I have discovered the secret to draw them out of their homes. Across the river and northwest of here there are five huge trees that were once in habited by Sylvan. But with the coming of the Fomorian, the Sylvan fled their homes, abandoning them to any and all creatures. The ixthiar broodmothers took up residence in these trees, producing their young to fill the land with evil. Most of the time the broodmothers live deep within the roots of the trees, but when their young are exterminated, they wil come to the surface to begin producing more. That is how you [will lure] a ixthiar broodmother out."

Fylara MacKieran says, "Heed my words, Druid! I would not try this alone! Ixthiar doomcallers and reapers guard the nests. Pick one nest and exterminate all the creatures close to it. When all are dead, the broodmother will sense this and will come to the surface. You must defeat her to obtain the carapace. It will not be easy, but with a few associates you should be able to win. Once you have the pelt and the carapace, come back to me and speak with me."

[Step #1] Kill a gorge shriller to get its tongue. They can be found by crossing the wooden bridge near the Grove of Aalid Feie and heading north.

the first thing she asks you to get can vary. a Nightshade was asked to get the pelt of a bugbear nuisance (just west of the town, between the two bridges) and a champion and bard were asked to get grove shriller tongues (follow the road north across the bridge and stay on it until you see them).
step #2: go to an Ixthiar nest (pick one, I used the one at 26k, 15k) and stay in that area killing all the Ixthiar. if you leave the area, I think the broodmother's timer resets, which will make it longer for you. After about 10 minutes or so, she popped for us and was orange to 50.
step #3: return the parts to Fylara
step #4: give her tongue
step #5: give her the eye
quest gives lvl 47 leggings (Ixthiar Eye Leggings for bard, Bugbear Pelt Leggings for NS, both af 94)

*We camped one hive as suggested by the walkthrough for an hour and a half. We finally decided it may be hive specific and started to move to the hive location listed in the walkthrough. On our way there we decided to clear each hive, the second one we went to popped the Brood mother. This leads me to believe that it's just a matter of clearing the correct hive to get the spawn. Not camping one particular hive.

**NOTE:
I just received word back from CSR Absurdees on the Lancelot server. He stated "well that is the only way the mother will spawn, if the ENTIRE camp is killed before the respawn starts."

lvl 48 received 2,132,899,648 exp and 5 gold
Lvl 46 received 1,616,435,712 exp and 5 gold

Rewards:
  Ixthiar Carapace Leggings
  Ixthiar Wing Pants
  Bugbear Pelt Leggings
  Ixthiar Eye Leggings
  Bugbear Bloody Pelt Leggings
  Bugbear Pelt Mauler Leggings

I see this last post was back in 2002, it's now 2008 and I am still having touble getting the BM to spawn. After 6 yrs and countless patches you would think it would just be there...
Broodmother spawn

I have done this by killing as few as 4 mobs around the nest to get a BM spawn and other times I've killed mobs across all nests for over 2 hours with no BM spawn. I have caused her to spawn in different nests on different occasions, so the bit about moving from nest to nest after waiting a few seconds after clearing the last mobs is a good idea. (And you MUST clear all the mobs around the nest.) In the 4-5 times plus that Ive done this, the BM has popped immediately after killing the last local mob. Also, several times we have cleared the mobs from all nests with no spawn for several hours..leading me to think that there is some kind of respawn timer and it may even exceed the two hours previously mentioned in this thread. Too bad there's no way to tell when the last time it was done. :(

Also..when clearing the mobs at the nests surrounded by the large tree stumps..be sure to look up on the tops of the stumps..often mobs pop up there and they can be hard to spot.

Just Did the Quest and seemed pretty easy. I would spend no more then 10min per camp and move to the next.

Standing inside the lair or killing all the mobs before the respawn is untrue. Just kill the mobs in the camp and after a few minutes she doesn't spawn move to the next.

When I killed her I got this Ring

Mother's Might- Level 50 Ring
3- Large Weaponry
5%- Crush
5%- Thrust
12 Strength

5Charge 75 Dex/Quick bonus

Interesting... I have farmed broodmothers before for the rings they drop with several other guildies. I find that once the camp around a BM spawn is cleared, the BM pops almost instantly. There IS a respawn timer of up to 2 hours (I am told) once the BM is killed (so that you can't pop her again and again), however there are SEVERAL BM spawn-huts in the area.

**Once we found out that the BM respawn-after-death may hinder some people's questing, we ceased farming them
Not a solo quest but easy

I did this quest in 15-20 minutes with the help of a lvl 50 druid. The first part is easy enough... the broodmother part is a little more involved, but not time consuming as alot of these posts may lead you to believe.

first head out of aelid feie and head west. Cross river and head to western zone wall. You should see some huts with ixthiar around them. I saw 3 of them all in a line along the western wall. I chose the hut to the left and with the help of my druid friend killed everything around that hut. While killing the ixthiar around the hut some may respawn... You NEED to kill them again if they do. After everything is dead around the hut, run into the hut real quick and the Broodmother will be inside. Ive done the quest once, and told a friend how I did it and they had as easy a time as I did. But you cannot do this alone, you need higher lvl help, or a larger group.

Trigger the event

Trigger the even of the broodmother spawning by killing everything around the hut. If you dont kill everything, I mean no Ixthiar around the nest at all, the broodmother wont spawn. You can wait for 3 days straight for her to appear and she wont unless you clear the ixthiar out.

Broken ?
# May 02 2003 at 10:28 AM Rating: Decent
Spend 2+h camping 3 nests, no broodmother - appealed and got advice to concentrate on one nest, kill all spawns and check inside the nest. Tried that for another 75 minutes.

Still no broodmother.

Think this quest is broken and need to be fixed.
Got the Momma
# Feb 21 2003 at 11:31 AM Rating: Decent
It took me a few trys but I didn't have to camp for hours. First, bring as many people with you as you can. The faster you can clean out the camp the better. Second, if you feel like you've cleaned out the camp, can't find anything else in the area to kill, and the Broodmother hasn't spawned, move to another nest.

We went to the first nest we saw and attempted to clean it out. We thought we'd cleaned out everything, yet Momma didn't spawn. We left to go pick up another guildemember, came back and proceeded to clean out another nest. She spawned immediately after killing what appeared to be the last one. She was RTM at 45.
How To Spawn BM

I just received word back from CSR Absurdees on the Lancelot server. He stated "well that is the only way the mother will spawn, if the ENTIRE camp is killed before the respawn starts." Guess its time to form BM raids. SHEESH
Darn mob....

I spent over 4 hours already trying to get the Broodmother to spawn...and still nothing. I waited in the CSR queue for 15+ hours to be told that it would get fixed with the patch that went live 12/12/02. Guess what?? I spent another 2 hours hunting those dang mobs....NADA!!!
No Mutha
# Dec 12 2002 at 6:20 PM Rating: Excellent
Spent an hour killing those Mantis' and no mother spawned. We stayed at one nest for over an hour. Do these things tend to wonder away from the nest? And is the Broodmother any different from the rest?

Thanks, Nilly
