DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Per Patch 1.61b:
- Zombies, ghosts and necromancers, step 8. Berzerkers on Gaheris that couldn't turn in the rod can now do so.

Step 1) To begin the quest speak to either Bartholomew Swett OR Juliana Grym in Avalonian Apparition house on the right near Ft. Gwyntell

step 2) Next, talk to Avice Swett who's standing next to Eabae Dale

Step 3) Eabae then sends you to kill one of the Avalonian Apparations which surround the ghost house.

step 4) After killing the apparation, talk to the Priest of Arawn in Ft. Gwyntell You'll be awarded 40,164,891 exp (lvl 44)

step 5) The Priest of Arawn tells you to go talk to Avice Swett and tell her to [Take the rod]

step 6) Go back to the apparition houses and give Avice the rod. After you hand her the rod she tells you to go kill a drakoran necromancer's apprentice.

step 7) Kill the drakoran necromancer's apprentice (found across the wooden bridge from the Ft.) loc 27k, 26k (Dales of Devwy)

step 8) Bring the apprecentice's rod of necromancy to Avice

After handing Avice the rod I was awarded 542,226,039 exp and a cloak.

Note:
This quest also can be started in other house, but DONT start there,

I got very crappy items (af88 plate, +54 hit points). I did it afterwards
with my scout, and also got cloak with somewhat different stats (worse in my opinion)

Text from the quest:

Juliana Grym says, "Armswoman, is something wrong? I feel like something has been wrong for some time. I talk to the Swett's, and they say the same thing. Funny. I haven't talked to them in such a long time, and they are only next door. Do you [understand]?"

Juliana Grym says, "About the feeling I have, that our peace is disturbed. Sometimes, I feel like I shouldn't be here at all. But there is more. Sometimes I sense strange beings that I can't quite make out. I sense them in the house. They make me [angry]."

Juliana Grym says, "Yes. Unsettled, angry. I try to keep my calm, but they are a constant pressure. And things are already so confusing! For instance, why hasn't Lucia gone to market? She should have gone to [market], yet she hasn't gone in so long.

Juliana Grym says, "Well. She can't remember when she went. Neither can any of us. But it couldn't have been long ago. Things are [strange], Armswoman. Will you help us?'

You have been given the Zombies, ghosts and necromancers quest.

Juliana Grym says, "Oh! Thank you! I hope you can help us! Try talking to Everard. Lucia only mumbles about going to the market. I think she is more affected by this than the rest of us."

[Step #2] Speak to Everard Grym about the strange things going on.

Everard Grym says, "What? I'm a bit [bothered] right now."
Everard Grym says, "Anxious. Angry. Annoyed. What not. What do you want? Oh. Juliana sent you.Didn't she.Fine. You are here. Have you seen anything strange? Odd? Different? We all feel different. Have you seen strange [presences]?"

Everard Grym says, "Aye.Can you? Can't you? Well. Stick around. They come. They always do. I know not what they are. There was a holy man. Father Staverly. He stayed on the hill. He came to us often. Seek him out. Ask him what to do about the Grym family! Tell him the presences disturb us. I think he now stays at Fort Gwyntell, beyond the hill behind our homes."

[Step #3] Find Father Staverly, and speak to him. Thell him the [presences disturb the Gryms]. He is in Fort Gwyntell, over the hill behind the Grym house.

Father Staverly says, "Presences disturb them? In their house? Do they not realize they are dead? Aye, but in these times, that would not be such an odd thing, would it? There are only two [forces] that work with the dead."

Father Staverly says, "Those of Morgana, wicked sorceress and mistress of dragons; and those of Arawan, the dark lord of the underworld. Since Arawn's forces broke the boundries between the mortal and immortal to aid us against Morgana, I can only think it must be Morgana's doing, perhaps one of her minions. The only way to undo the workings of necromancers these days seem to be by accepting the aid of other [necromancers]."

Father Staverly says, "Seek out a drakoran mystic. They wear charms of some sort, we call them charms of the dead. Bring these charms to the priest of Arawan at Fort Gwyntell in exchange for a sword, a dark sword of Arawan. Give this to Warin. He was once a great Paladin."

[Step #4] Hunt a drakoran mystic. Bring the charms of the dead they wear to the Priest of Arawan at Fort Gwyntell.

(Killed a drakoran mystic loc aprox 45,58)

[Step #5] Trade the item found on the drakoran to the Priest of Arawan for dark sword enchanted againt Morgana's Magic.

Priest of Arawn says, " Armswoman, what brings you out here, to this remote land?"

Priest of Arawn says, " Ah! This is a charm used by the drakoran mystics! We've been trying to acquire them, to try and find weaknesses in their magic. They are trying to use dark magics they don't understand, but we do. We ar hoping we can use their ignorance against them. Here, for that, I shall give you this, it is a sword forged in the realm of the dead, in the forges of Arawan. I know a bit about the workings of this world, and even more of the other. I know that there is someone who needs this sword. Be sure it gets to him."

You are awarded 192,719,608 experience!

[Step #6] Give the sword to Warin, one a paladin of the church.

Warin Grym says, "Fare well, friend, now is not the time to visit us. Many strange things have been going on here, things I can not understand. I fear we are being attacked by forces of great evil, even in our death? Else why are we not at rest?"

(Handed Warin the dark sword of Arawan.)

Warin Grym says, "Armswoman, I know what this is. It's the dark sword of Arawan. Forged in the fires of the realm of the dead. Forged in dark magics by evil workers of the necromantic arts. To wield this sword is to cut loose the thread that separated us from this world, and brings us to the dark lands of Arawan. I fear though, if we do not do this, then a more dire fate awaits us as enslaved minions of Morgana and her drakoran followers. As such we would never be free to rest. I must believe that Arawan's realm at least would offer some sanction. I will wield this dark sword, and lose myself to Arawan. I may need your help, Armswoman."

[Step #7]Help Warin defeat the apprentice.

Warin Grym says, "Die, foul creature of Morgana's! I summon thee to thine death! Kill him when he appears Armswoman! I have summoned him for you! Speak to me when he is dead!"

[Step #8]Go back to Warin Grym for your reward.

You are awarded 542,226,039 experience!
You are awarded 40 silver and some copper!
You have finished the Zombies, Ghosts, and Necromancers quest.

You receive Warin Grym's Special Plate from Warin Grym!

As a 46 wizard, I can kill the apps outside np at all. Worth terrible xp (6 mil). But, the only way I can get inside the house is to do a suicide run and hope that I can make it. The casts were landing for 169-189~ with max resists every other time.. needless to say, I'm only doing this quest for the xp.. but I'll probably end up just breaking even

After a few hours more of trying, I've come to a conclusion that might get me banned, despite its actuality and correctness.

Mythic are ******* idiots. They design quests that are extremely appealing to the common player who has a great deal of trouble to get to level 50, but are impossible to complete unless you are a seasoned high level player (or have access to a buffbot, which the common player rarely, rarely has).

The common player below level 50 who has the most use of this quest and their rewards, are not able to finish it, instead only those who have no or very little use for it, are. This is the worst piece of ******** crap *** game design I have ever seen, and the responsible idiots who assume people will pay them twice for buffbots or assistant accounts to finish this, deserve to get burnt alive.

You ******* ********, Mythic! Give the common player a ******* treat for once, instead of catering for the seasoned players!

What a joke

The quest is a joke.

Atleast as of 1.69 on GOA English servers it's impossible to enter the building (which by the way is located a short pace NW from Gwyntell, as I'm sure many have been looking around) because of all the apparitions.

The second I set foot on the doorstep I am dealt 10 damages at ~150 hitpoints each, within 2 seconds, from the apparitions. You can't get inside.

At level 45 minimum you might be able to enter safely, but at that level the equipment and exp reward is just not worth the time and trouble. How moot.

(Edit: At level 40 the apparitions con yellow to blue, and even with a minstrel with fully capped stats and crafted+SCed equipment, they are a tough job to kill.)

Two Important Things
# Oct 19 2003 at 12:04 AM Rating: Decent
Two things you should know about this quest. If you start getting attacked by the Swetts during it, you can still at least give items to, and possibly talk to, Avice as she is ganking you. Also, it occasionally happens that some of the members of the Swett family will appear to be on the ground floor of the house. This is a bug. When it happens, you won't be able to give items to Avice Swett because she is "too far away." If this happens, about your only bet is to gank them from here to Llyn Barfog and wait for them to respawn.

P.S. A third thing occurred to me. If you're doing the quest with multiple people, please be aware that the whole Swett family will despawn about thirty seconds after Avice receives an apprentice's rod of necromancy from anyone, so you'll have to either all give her the rod simultaneously, or wait for her to respawn after each person completes it.

House on 'Right'
# May 12 2003 at 1:06 AM Rating: Default
Apparently you should start the quest in the house on the right, as you're looking at them from the BACK. In other words, talk to Barthalomew Swett first, not Juliana Grym.

Also, if you can't get the necro to spawn, try having a friend do the quest and get the him (the necro, not your friend) to spawn. If you both kill him, you both should have your journals updated to talk to Warin.

Unfortunately I brought friends to do it, they started with Juliana, and we all ended up with crappy armor instead of a cloak. And I assume this is not a repeatable quest...

Hard Quest !
# Apr 11 2003 at 5:56 PM Rating: Decent
Me and my wife tried this quest together, I'm a level 42 Air/Earth Theurgist and she is a level 42 Mind/Body Sorceress. Well the Avalonian Apparations were a pain in the ***, but their spawn time is long, so you should be able to kill most if not all and have enough time to run in the house and start the quest.

Then the fun part :D , The Necromancer's Apprentice, this guy cannot be mezzed or confused, he drains and hits for 300, he is hard to pull since he stays in the house, he came with the guardsman that stands outside his house so that made it easier to pull, be ready for a abnormally hard kill when you pull the Necromancer's Apprentice.
evil Swetts...
# Mar 23 2003 at 12:57 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest on Gaheris with the help of a 49 warden. The Swetts are in the left house when you face the two houses from their entrances. We started clearing the apparitions, though we got too many at one point and were forced to run towards the river. I found all five swetts gathered in the middle of the river (???), so I talked to Bartholomew, and they proceeded to start beating on us. We both died, but I got the quest. We cleared the apparitions so the warden could get the quest as well. He got all the way to step eight (return the rod to Avice) where the neutral Swetts wouldn't stop aggroing onto him and Avice woundn't take the rod. He appealed the quest and was told it is bugged for wardens and thanes...

We killed the Necromatic Apprentice twice, first time yellow to 49, second time orange to 49. One thing I discovered is: you can run in and hit one of the swetts, run out of the house as far as possible before you die, and the Swetts will camp your grave outside, not returning to the house. If you can get them out far enough (Avice likes to stop to cast), it makes it easier to talk to them. Fun! :P

I received the Hooded Blades Cloak and ~300M experience as a 41 heroine. My warden friend got a couple of rods...
Apparitions
# Mar 16 2003 at 12:27 AM Rating: Decent
I've tried to do this once solo and once with a 50 pally as well (I'm a 42 Pally). We can't get past the apparitions in the houses. They are blue/green to me but there are so many and they respawn too quick to clear out. I tried dashing in and speaking to Bartholomew, I died but got to step two. I can't complete the conversation with Avice though before the apparitions kill me.
How do I get past the apparitions?

Our version of this quest starts with Everard Grym(step 2) . We have looked several places he is rumored to be but have not found him over weeks and multiple searches .. Any one have a clue where this guy hangs out ? ...
Bartholomew Swett OR Juliana Grym
# Feb 24 2003 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
I started the Quest with Juliana Grym. Do i get the cloak then? Because Bartholomew Swett and Juliana Grym are not in the same house which may be a problem as stated above. I'm getting a little bit suspicious.
As already mentioned the steps are a little different.
Avice Swett??
# Feb 19 2003 at 1:40 PM Rating: Decent
Where the heck is she? I waited for two hours, killed the apparitions (all of them) four different times. Even tried to kill the Swetts. (this was a mistake...don't do it) Sent an appeal to Mythic...waited...waited...still waiting... Does Avice Swett spawn at the houses, or do i have to look elsewhere for her?

My friar ended up with a Hooded Pious Cloak
Avice Swett
# Feb 05 2003 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
I'm up to step #5, but Avice Swett is nowhere to be found. When I spoke to her the first time, she was in the house with Bartholomew and never anywhere near Eabae Dale.

And beware the Swett's and the Grym's. The second time I entered either house, the families attacked me (even though my faction with them is neutral).
Corrections...
# Jan 28 2003 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
Necro's apprentice is definitely not OJ to 50. Most of the upper tier of my guild has completed this quest and he's never been oj, always yellow, and low yellow at that.

I also completed this quest at 44 and the necro was not red, but orange. He has abnormally high AF and a LOT of hp for his level, but judging by his melee damage he's around 46-47, absolute top.

Also, the quest does not start with Eabae Dale (who is not even in the house). It starts with Bartholomew Swett, the ghost friar that normally stands at the top of the stairs. He directs you to Avice who is the only NPC you interact with for the rest of the quest, besides the Priest of Arawn. You never talk to anyone else.
