DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest.

Talk to your trainer, in Tir na Nog. When you speak with your trainer she asks if you know about the dead oak by the tree northwest of Tir Na mBeo.

If you accept the quest she tells you to go there and talk to the mad sprite. She tells you to find information on what a Mad Sprite is saying about the Veil.

The Mad Sprite is just south of TNN's east gate to 14k,9k (also seen at loc=13k,9k). When you talk to him he says something bad will happen to the Veil. You go through a dialog with him then he says 'lets go for a swim' and goes into the pond. I lost him at this point but found him again by the tree. Talking to him again he says a few things then attacks you. He then gives you a letter to give to Fagan who is in Mag Mell (who is found in the largest building in the town). Fagan reads the letter and makes reference to the same person involved in the stalker quests and says hopefully this information in the letter will never happen, and gives you a small amount of silver and about a bubble of exp (at level 7).

Blathnaid says, "I have not trained you long, but already you are my favored student. You are also one of my best. Are you familiar with the [dead oak among the trees] that circle the pond deep in the forest behind Tir na mBeo?"

Blathnaid says, "It has been the center of songs for years. It is dead, but still grows. Lately, a creature known as Mad Sprite has appeared around the tree. He circles it non-stop from mid-night to mid-day reciting [nonsensical phrases]."

Blathnaid says, "The elders of our class, and the others that follow our Path believe the Map Sprite is an oracle of sorts. An insane one, perhaps, but his message must be discovered. Speak with this Map Sprite, and see what you can glean from him."

He no longer appears.

The locations given above are no longer the place where the mad sprite is. I would like to get on with this quest, I don't want to spend days looking for this thing.

Mad Sprite is no longer by the lake but at 13k 9k. South of TNN at the edge of the woods by the hill.
Too Easy
# Apr 13 2003 at 8:16 AM Rating: Decent
This quest may as well just give you your reward when you open it. There is minimal contact with mobs on the way to the lake. The two I saw conned orange to me at 7 and were easily avoided. You speak to the Mad Sprite and it gives you the letter you need. No fight. No Puzzle. No anything. This has to be the easiest quest in the game.

I too got stuck at the Mad Sprite. He just kept offereing to go for a swim and disappearing into the lake. I filed an /appeal and One of the CSR's got back to me in a just a few moments. you have to target the Sprite and /say "ocean is falling" to him. I tried this and lo and behold got the note for ****** Hope this helps!

Got it no problem at low level
# Dec 30 2002 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
Was playing with my new Enchanter around level 6 or 7 when I went right up to the mad sprite and got the note with no problem. I had chosen the path of essence previously.
So what now?
# Aug 25 2002 at 2:15 AM Rating: Default
I have a lvl 7 NightShade. I talked to the sprite and he attacked me. The he just mumbled after that. Someone else interrupted my conversation with him, so the sprite gave HIM the note. The guy then gave me the note, but ***** won't take it, because it says the Sprite has to give it to me still. SO I went back 4 times, and the sprite still won't talk to me. He just wanders around and mumbles. Now what? I reported the problem to the mods, but have no idea what they are going to do.

The /loc for the dead tree where the "Mad Sprite" is located is: Lough Dergh 11964, 29197.
All I needed to do was right click on him and click on the highlighted words in his conversation. He babbled about the ocan falling through the viel, that there were more than one veil and that it was slipping. He cried that the veil got him and he disappeared. "******* message" letter was dropped into my pack.

Sounds very familiar to the "Strange Matters" quest which was for Bard, Champion, Enchanter, Nightshade. Maybe it has had a name change in a patch..?

just a thought

Something to think about is that quest are not like in EQ. It is stated that each person will get different ways to do a quest. Based on level, class, and maybe even race. I like this but it will mean that info posted here may or may not work or be right for you. So you got to just find out on your own. :-)

Path of Essence
# Mar 17 2002 at 3:19 PM Rating: Default
To answer the group of posters wondering if or why their class doesn't get this quest it's because it is only for those who chose the Path of Essence at level 5 (i.e. Nightshades, Bards, Enchanters, and Champions). If you chose the Path of Focus (Eldritches, Heros, Wardens, and Rangers) you will get the Destructive Forces quest. And if you follow the path of Harmony (Druids, Mentalists, and Blademasters) you will get the Enchanting Willow quest.
I wanna do it too!!

maybe the sprite either attacks or doesnt because, well, it just might be insane(who knew!). Some people just meet this guy when a different personality surfaces IMO.
Mad Sprite
# Jan 05 2002 at 10:46 AM Rating: Default
I completed this quest lastnight. I'm a 8th level Nightshade. I found the Mad Sprite and talked to him. At the end he gave me the letter and ran off into to the water.

I then took the letter to ***** in Mag Mel and he gave me 2 bubbles of exp and a Shadowy Gem.

I didn't have to kill the Mad Sprite. All in all, a nice an easy quest even though it took me 2 times to do it. First time, I got jumped by a Red badger that kicked my butt.

Directions and Notes

Overall, I think this is a good quest based on the item you recieve from ******

I got this quest from my Champion trainer in Tir na Nog after I hit level 6. I waited till level 9 to complete the quest as I was unfamilar with the area and how far I would have to travel into the woods to find the Mad Sprite.

Everyone is correct, you need to head NW from Tir Na mbeo, which is south of Tir na Nog, , Mag Mell and Mardaugh, to find the pond which is surround by HUGE pine trees and sits down in a valley of sorts. It is, in my opinion, hard to miss because it sits down below the trees.

The Mad Sprite can be found at the bigger of the two trees around the pond. The one at Noon that is short and wide. The exact loc:11986, 29120, 4441. If he tries to swim, turn around and click on him again, that is when he gave me the note. Don't follow him, would be my advice as he will spawn again. I found him near the middle of the day.

I got a lvl 8 Magic Etched Bracer that gave me +2 to Strength and +1 to Constitution.

Well, I got this from my champion trainer, got him to talk to me, he went for swim, now I not only dont have the letter I cant get him to talk to me again, I have tried numerous times, even tried killing him. Hence, I cant finish the quest and I cant take on any others.Any ideas?
