DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest.

This is the Traveler's Way quest for Path of Focus.

Given at level 7 to many classes. The quest begins in Tir na Nog. Your guild master tells you that you have trained hard and are ready to further the aims of your chosen path. He/she then asks you if you [agree on this]. He/she then tells you about an abandoned camp in a forgotten grove of trees.

It's [not safe to stay] there at night and she is not kidding. Anger sprites and worse prowl the area during the night. Make sure you go there during the day. To get there follow the road to Ardee and go to just before the bridge and head west. You should very quickly come to the camp on a hill (loc=33k, 23k).

The creature you must kill is a wind ghoul named Windaille (spawns around 6AM game time...reported to be 6:14). Once you kill him, a tree creature (Fearg) spawns and attacks a nearby NPC named Bas. Kill the tree creature, or simply let Bas do it. Then kill Bas and you receive "Bas' Gem". Talk to the Empyrean that then spawns and she tells you of the history of this place, and then tells you the next step in your quest.

Now go back to the road and head south to Howth. It's a long run so take a horse from Mag Mell.

Once in Howth, go to the lodge in the center of town and speak with Cathbad. He asks you if you've been visiting [ancient groves].

Then he asks if anything was odd and if something was [guarding the grove]. When he asks if you received anything, give him "Bas' Gem" to receive experience and a minor magic item.

Rewards:
Carved Wooden Bracer -- Wardens
Nature's Shroud -- Ranger
Medallion of the Warriors Spirit -- Hero
Twisted Silver Choker -- Eldritch

Next quest in this series:
Connla's Well

Rewards:
  Natures Shroud
  Carved Wooden Bracer
  Medallion of Warriors Spirit
  Twisted Silver Choker

Windhaile's spawn time is around 6AM. not 6pm. I sat there all night and watched anger sprites spawn, but no Windhaile. hang out until 6am and he'll pop right up for you.

Help with initiation
# Mar 22 2003 at 10:10 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,
I'm a level 7 Warden. I've went to Tir Na Nog and talked with the Warden trainer (Labhras), but he won't say anything to me.
Does anyone know how I can get this quest initiated?
Thanks much,
MoMax

# Jan 25 2003 at 9:25 AM Rating: Decent
Can somebody help me? i killed windwaille, the tree, Bas and talked to the empyrean, got the gem, but my inventory was full of things and i started to sell stuff and sold the gem by mistake.
I know that quest objects cannot be sold, but i made it, dont ask me how :( now im 36 warden and have no epic objects/quest and im starting to be worried about my lvl 50 epic armor. My trainer doesnt give me anymore epics and if i dont complete this one i wont be able to have the epic armor :(

I did this fight as a 7 ranger... Windaille was harder than Bas, even though Windy was blue and Bas was yellow.

1) Fight Windaille. Kill him and don't die (hardest part for me).
2) SIT DOWN AND HEAL UP.
3) Watch Bas fight the tree spirit.
4) When healed up, switch to bow, ready crit shot. When fight is over, nail Bas with a Crit shot, maybe another arrow or two if you got a good distance.
5) For me Bas was at less than a 1/4 health when he finally got to me, making the fight pretty easy, even if he did hit hard.

I guess my advice is only helpful to folks with bows, but there it is.

I did this at 8 - im a shield/pierce hero. Windaille was blue to me, and both bas and the tree were green. Killing Windaille was not really that hard and i cant see why you would have any problems with bas, when hes green. I killed the tree when it only had a sliver of health left and then immediately killed bas with 3 blows with my shield.....no prob. As for his damage he never hit me.

So the tip is sit and wait till the fight is almost over, then jump up and whack em both.

k?

simply hit bas a few time when he is fighting the tree, but dont kill him..he will kill the tree and his power will already be low...one more blow and he is dead.

Yes, you have to know what she said to complete quest. Darn! Don't know anyone else who has done it to tell me what she said. I don't suppose my guild train would give it to me again. :(

I, too, would like to know what she said because as I was reading it, I was attacked by Windallie again. Emperyn pop off and I had no way to talk to her again. Another question....is it important to fulfilling the quest to know what she actually said? Still would be interested anyway.

I can't get the Empyrean or Cathbad to talk to me
# Feb 09 2002 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
I got the gem automatically, I tried talking to the Empyrean and she wouldn't say anything. I went to Howth to talk to Cathbad, but he won't say or trade me anything. What did I do wrong? Do I have to say some magic word to him that the Empyrean said, or something like that?

Checking out the camp
# Jan 31 2002 at 12:46 PM Rating: Default
As a lvl 7 I got this quest. I looked for the camp with no luck. I decided to make a character to find the camp with. As a lvl 1 I ran from Howth to Ardee with no trouble at all. At night I ran down the path and followed the directions I had gotten with my other character. I made to the camp safe and sound with no trouble at all. As a lvl 1 i thought the journey there was very safe to take as a lvl 7 or higher.

odd strategy... but useful, if you run into any high level aggros. good thinking, i guess....
About the anger sprites
# Dec 04 2001 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
Just thought I'd let you know even if you go during the day you still have to be careful because these anger sprites are running around day and night.
This is who will get this quest.
# Dec 03 2001 at 6:48 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is the 'prequel' to the Path of Focus epic. Just like epic quests, who gets this particular quest is determined by what path you chose at 5th level.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 30 2001 at 4:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You're ranger must suck a lot to not take it out. At level 7 I melee'd it to death, did not shoot an arrow at all, shortly after I melee'd the Celt druid spawn by the fire. You need to restart you crap ranger if you can't melee the the named spawn. SHEESH.

A ranger's dealing with Windaille
# Nov 26 2001 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
My level 7 Ranger is having quite a difficult time with Windaille. I have assaulted him three times with the following results...

1st time - Crit shot misses. Second shot misses. third shot misses. We enter melee. In short time I am down to half health and he has lost about 1/10th of his health, I flee.

2nd time - Crit shot misses. Second shot hits. Third shot misses. We enter melee. In short order I am once again down to half health and he is at about 2/3rds health, I flee.

3rd time - Crit shot misses. Second shot hits. Third shot hits. We enter melee. Goes bad again, I've got him down to half health but I am much lower, I attempt to flee too late and die.

I have put this quest on hold till I gain another level. I am using the trainer given bow and use rough broadhead arrows purchased from a merchant. I can take down other types of blues with little to no trouble at all. I rarely miss my bow shots and usually have the mob below 1/3rd health when they reach melee, and finish them off with a few hits of my rapier.
Windaille spawn spot
# Nov 18 2001 at 6:56 PM Rating: Default
I saw Windaille spawn, several times, in one of the lean-tos. He then wandered around the camp, but never left it (I was keeping an eye on him for a friend).

Where is Windy?
# Nov 17 2001 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
I got the quest myself last night and following the directions on the board I had no problem at all finding the lean-to's. I did, however have a hard time locating Windaille... In fact, I still haven't found it. I saw (and killed) several other wind ghouls but no Windaille, does the mob spawn near the lean-to's? Do you know if it's on the west or east side? Does it spawn within eye-sight of the lean-to camp or should I walk away from the camp searching? For the record I walked about 1 minute west of the camp and south and north, but I didn't attempt east as it was getting dark and I was frightened =) Any help here would be welcome.
RE: Where is Windy?
# Jan 20 2002 at 10:03 AM Rating: Default
Youre at the wrong camp....windaille spawns a bit north of the wind ghoul camp with the dead tree..hes day time only also..think there are 3 tent like teepees there and a camp fire

i cant find this damn camp/grove
can anyone tell me what it looks like as ive searched all over
RE: cant find it
# Nov 12 2001 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
OK, head N from Ardee (it's N of Mag Mell) to the bridge w/ the four towers. From the W side of the bridge turn NWW and head over a hill watchout for Spraggon's (can't remember exactly which kind) and the occasional wind ghoul -- if it's night time don't go too near the Graveyard to your left 'cos there's Amadan Touched's that will one-hit you back to the Bindstone. The Lean-To Camp is just over the hill w/ a firepit in the middle, which is where the secondary battle occurs and the Empyrean spawns. Good luck.
Easy
# Nov 07 2001 at 9:53 PM Rating: Default
Very easy quest, did this at lvl 7. The whin guy coned blue. So I stood back and shot one crit and two regular shots up his ***. Finished him off with 2 hits from my dagger after that. Then I broke out my popcorn and started watching the lumberjack and tree go at. The tree lost. I put away my popcorn and shot one crit shot at the lumberjack killing him instantly. He conned green. Then talked to the Emer thing she gave me the bass jewell. I then rushed to Mag where I bought a ticket to howth for 5 silver pieces. Went to howth turned in the jewell, BAM I get a green cloak (natures shroud) with 2 dex 1 con on it, plus about 2 bubbles of exp no joke. All this took me about 15 minutes max to do.
Caveat for Ranged-Attack Chars
# Nov 07 2001 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
My initial attempts to kill windallie met with a lot of pain (he was conning yellow for me thru the first half of lvl 7). So on my final attempt (he was conning blue by this point) I used hit and run tactics (I'm a Ranger) that drew him out about 2 of my max ranges out from the camp. I killed him successfully this time, but in the middle of the fight between Bas and Frear he respawned and started whaling on me while I was trying to read the Empyrean's message. I was able to complete the quest fine, since your inventory is automatically given Bas' gem, but I missed the historical part from the Empyrean which was a bummer.
