I did the quest about a month or two ago, they let you pick from every weapon type (blade, blunt pierce, large weap) or a medium shield, I hear the medium shield is the better choice for a shield/sword champion than the sword, but who in their right mind would be a shield/sword champion in the first place? Two words, LARGE WEAPONS. The greatsword is unreal and will be your best friend till the very late 40's.
