DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

In my 16th season I was traveling and came upon a Filidh gossiping of the latest news. It seemed as though a prosperous merchant in Ardee named Fianait was taking up the hobby of gardening. The problem, much to our amusement, was that she was trying to create an otherworld garden, and the creatures of the otherworld were being none too cooperative.

Straight away I went to Fianait's aid. She told me of her problems in more detail, explaining that she was in need of the spores of a dew sherie. These spores she said needed to be taken to Cait in Howth.

Knowing where to find the reclusive dew sheeries, and already being in bad standing with their ilk, I quickly set off. For those unaware of where they can be found, the dew sheeries inhabit the eastern shore of the loch, almost directly east of Ardagh.

I found these sheeries to be, on consideration, slightly more powerful than I (red and orange at lvl 16), and was lucky enough to enlist the aid of a passing hero. Together we slew the Sheerie and I quickly went to Howth to find Cait.

Cait informed me that the otherworld garden would, of course, need otherworld soil. This soil was to be obtained from the earth demons. Some know these as Deamhan Craig's. I must confess as to having despaired, for I did not have any idea of where to find these creatures. After diligent search I found the Deamhan Craigs on the east shore of the lake. The route I traveled was across the stepping stones, and east by north east into the valleys there. You will know the area by the presence of an abandoned camp nearby.

Once found I hit the depths of my despair, for again these foul beasts would easily best me (red at lvl 16). But I took heart and set forth to increase my skills. Upon attaining the next season, I returned and found the deamhans to still be beyond my ability (red and orange to lvl 17). Luck would have it that a noble druid was located nearby and he agreed to assist me in gaining the other world soil.

Now my feet carried me back to Howth, where Cait informed me that my travels were far from over. I needed to seal the magic between the soil and the spores. Only Ainrebh of Callie the enchanter could perform this feat. So I went to the stablemaster and rode to Mag Mell, ran east and south around the loch to the barn (near the parths). The stableman there was able to transport me to Druim Cain. I knew that Caille was on this same route, and I jumped form the horse as I rode past.

Ainrebh, who was inside the main village building, told me that yet the quest continued, for I must find one final ingredient, the grass seeds from a, yes grass sheerie. I ran from town and began climbing the steeply sloped hills nearby, heading generally west by north west. As I was not familiar with the area, it was pure luck to stumble upon the grass sheerie named Fearan (blue at lvl 17) Loc: 24k,27.5k (also seen at loc=24659, 26875. This is roughly WNW of Caille and on the hill SSE of the Druid Circle and loc=22711, 33774) . Good luck for me bad luck for him. With grass seeds in hand, I returned to Ainrebh. He performed the enchantment upon the potted soil and the quest was all but over. I decided to run the final leg to Druim Cain and travel by horse from there to Druim Ligen. Setting my horse to run free at Ardee I returned to Fianait in triumph with her new otherworld potted soil. She was kind enough to reward me with (about 5 dashes of xp) a woven grass helmet she had made for me. Its wondrous abilities, were alas wasted on me, a champion. But what a quest it was!

*I also did this quest as Mentalist, but to get the soil it was a little bit different :

I go to Cait in Howth, and he told me to speak with Merlo and he's somewhere around Howth. So I went to Merlo and said to him "soil from the otherworld"
and he told me that of course he had some and gave it to me.

And I found Fearan at Loc 22,34 he's somewhere around there and yellow at 16 and has a companion (blue) (also seen at 18K/34K running along the crest of the hill).

Reward:
  Woven Grass Helm

Extra notes

A few quick notes: I found Fearan at 22052, 35811 5338 @ 8:29am surrounded by lots of Sheeries. He was at the base of a tree on the hill and he was a bit hard to see being covered by the tree branches.

Be careful of the Siog Seekers in the camp on the hill. Even at 36th level they con blue and yellow : )
More Fearan Directions

I back tracked some directions for everyone.

From the 2 Mushrooms you pass through going twords Caille, go West North West to a Bunch of Standing Stones in a square pattern. Go to the center stone on the North side. Loc = 19972,42976,2220 and face dir of 396 to 11. Zero or due North is prefered.

Head due North up the hill to you come to the first flat landing. Loc = 20879,34127,6122. Turn West North West and go just a few yards to loc= 19896,34093,6151. You are now in the area that Fearan spawns. He will spawn in various locs from what I can tell, but if you stay in this area, and kill all grass sheeries you see, he will pop fairly quickly.

Hope this Helps

the search for the elusive Fearan
# Feb 21 2002 at 11:52 AM Rating: Default
I spent a LOT of time searching for fearan, and i found that the coordinates that some people have posted already helped me out alot, so I decided to add some additional details to make the search for this little sheerie a bit easier.

a big frustration I had was that I reached the top of the valley I knew I was in the right area, but I still couldn't find him!- I combined a bunch of directions already given here, and I found all of them to be helpful:

Once in the valley of Bri Leth, you can either go straight up the mountainside from where the fury sprites spawn, or head north west from the tower at Caille.

at the top of the valley (assuming you are facing away from Caille) To the far right, there should be a large steep hill with stones on the top (Druids spawn there); to the left of that (in the middle) is a smaller hill. if you climb to the top and look down the other side, you should see a Siog camp. there are these purple Siog Seers and things that are agressive and nasty. don't bother them. then on your left is a lower area with some small hilly bits, but for the most part, it's basically a meadow. Theres flowers growing there, and maybe a few trees around the outskirts. This is where Fearan spawns. You may notice a handful of creatures in front of the hill and in the general vicinity of the meadow that are similar to the ones found lower in the valley (these all conned grey to me: Primrose, Grass sheeries, Barca, Wisps, Orbs, etc.)

Please take note that in the far area of the meadow are where there are usually one or two siogs that spawn there. If you keep close to the left side of the hill near the part of the meadow where the grey things roam around, you shouldn't have a problem.

This is when I used the coordinates that others have posted. The ones that helped me were

18766,30317,7507 and 17043,33742,6130
To add my own, I found Fearan at 16430,32507,6338

I had noticed in this area that there was a spot where I saw grass sheeries. there was only one or two at a time, but they don't roam very far from where they spawn. They were grey to me, but I kept killing them anyway until Fearan spawned. I don't know if the time of day matters, but he spawned an hour or two after dawn in the game when the sun had come up.

It should be very easy to find Fearan, but for some reason it's not. I hope I'm helping to ease some of the pain that many of us have already gone through. good luck!

I spent about 4 hours looking for him, ack...

Finally found him at 24277, 33202, 6023, at night, contrary to what one poster said...the quest reward is very nice for a magician class, but I can't say I'd recommend this quest for anyone else, it's just too hard to find him.

Finally Found Fearen
# Feb 09 2002 at 2:59 PM Rating: Default
Boy, this has been the most difficult named mob for me to find. I found him at 18766,30317,7507 at 9hr 31 min game time. From tower in Caille, head up the dirt ravine (w/fury sprites) to the top. Found Fearen at base of big hill (to your right), after killing numerous other Grass Sheeries in the area. I do not believe you have to kill a Fury Sprite for Fearen to spawn. I had been through area many times...many only suggestion is to kill a bunch of other Sheeries and hopefully he'll pop. Watch out for Siog in the area! Good luck.

Im a Lvl 17 mentalist and i have been looking with a lvl 18 warden to find Fearen. We use both the directions that are given here and could not find him. We also roamed the entire zone killing grass sheeries for about 2 hours and never found Fearen. Any new info that could point me in the right direction would be nice.

We found Fearen last night, by just stumbling on him near the top of the tallest hill. We had spent some time near there and had killed some fury sprites. Blue to me at 17 and an easy kill.
Quest Has Changed
# Feb 03 2002 at 11:05 PM Rating: Default
First of all... IGNORE OLDER FEAREN DIRECTIONS... FEAREN IS NO LONGER SPAWNED BY THE FURY SPRITES!!!! With the new patch some quest monsters have been moved so as to make "walkthroughs" not as helpful.... damnit.... anyway if u want to find Fearen, go west from Caille up into the mountains, climb the tallest mountain and go over past the druid, youll see a camp below, though, stay clear of those guys, they con purple at 27... go below the camp and to the right, there are trees with grass sherries around. Im not sure if sheeries are place holders, but i killed one and Fearen appeared.

I was asked to find merle the old for the soil, rather easy, go behind howth and pan up, you can see his hut easily on top of a tall hill
Getting the soil
# Feb 03 2002 at 2:46 PM Rating: Default
When I was directed to get the soil by Cait, she simply told me to ask Edernola in Connla for some. I did, she gave it to me, and I was on to the next leg of the quest.

I didnt know if you had to kill the fury sprite first to make him spawn, but i am shure that he wil only spawn at day! The directionsElcycinu Leehweno gives are very good to start, up that hill a bit N, NW he spawns AT DAY only, spent much time to find him.

Killed fearan during the day at 17043, 33742, 6130. Not sure if he has a place holder or not. But after roaming for an hour or so I killed a few barca in that vacinity then he was suddenly there... coincidence probably but you never know. Hehe good luck in this silly quest!

based on this post, i decided to try one more time (i'm the one who spent 8+ hours before). On Saturday morning 2 Feb i killed every sheerie and fury sprite and chased around the hill starting at ~3:00 am game time; did this for ~90 real minutes and had Fearan pop at 19076, 33133, 6256 -- after local sunset (20:07 hours game time)

of course, if they really changed everything on the Sunday patch and moved Fearan back into the flowery area to the N where the clues say he is supposed to be, then this location may be meaningless 8-(

Fearan can be found west of Caille, go all the way as high as you can, you will find two hills, left and right. One of the hills has druids on top while the other has some sort of siabra-ish creatures. Fearan spawns on the left slope of the left hill. If you see any grass sherries around there you should kill them as they may be placeholders. Quest takes a long time and hopefully this will help a lot of you shorten that time.

agree, after searching for him for a long time, giving up and trying again i found him right on top of the hill overlooking the siog seeker camp due west of caille. also the item has been changed and gives +6 int now instead of 4

I have spent probably 8 on-line hours searching for Fearan, mostly on the hillside indicated after I met someone who, as this writer did, had found Fearan almost immediately. (That kind person, whose name I alas can not recall, spent 2 hours with me hunting to no avail.) Killing mass quantities of grass sheeries did not help.

Is it just my Karma not to complete this one?

There is a brown section of the west side of the valley South of Caille and North of the twin mushrooms. There are two pairs of Fury Sprites and one single sprite. It is rumored that one of the fury sprites (the single) is the place holder for Fearan, who will then spawn straight up the hill from these sprites.

Good reward item for an Eldritch. Had a heck of a time finding Fearun, though. My best advise. As you are facining toward the tower in Caille, run up the dirt patch in the hill to the left of the tower. Up on the hill is a ledge. We found him there with a couple buddies...

ya, don't do thing quest unless you don't have anything better to do than waste time running all over the world, searching for soil, dew sheeries, grass sheeries named Fenare (or somehting like that), people in remote locations... urgh! It honestly took me three days to complete this 7 step quest all for experience (which, in truth was much appreciated) and a stuip grass woven cap that does as much for a druid as do a toxic spill.
