DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different
In my 16th season I was traveling and came upon a Filidh gossiping of the latest news. It seemed as though a prosperous merchant in Ardee named Fianait was taking up the hobby of gardening. The problem, much to our amusement, was that she was trying to create an otherworld garden, and the creatures of the otherworld were being none too cooperative.
Straight away I went to Fianait's aid. She told me of her problems in more detail, explaining that she was in need of the spores of a dew sherie. These spores she said needed to be taken to Cait in Howth.
Knowing where to find the reclusive dew sheeries, and already being in bad standing with their ilk, I quickly set off. For those unaware of where they can be found, the dew sheeries inhabit the eastern shore of the loch, almost directly east of Ardagh.
I found these sheeries to be, on consideration, slightly more powerful than I (red and orange at lvl 16), and was lucky enough to enlist the aid of a passing hero. Together we slew the Sheerie and I quickly went to Howth to find Cait.
Cait informed me that the otherworld garden would, of course, need otherworld soil. This soil was to be obtained from the earth demons. Some know these as Deamhan Craig's. I must confess as to having despaired, for I did not have any idea of where to find these creatures. After diligent search I found the Deamhan Craigs on the east shore of the lake. The route I traveled was across the stepping stones, and east by north east into the valleys there. You will know the area by the presence of an abandoned camp nearby.
Once found I hit the depths of my despair, for again these foul beasts would easily best me (red at lvl 16). But I took heart and set forth to increase my skills. Upon attaining the next season, I returned and found the deamhans to still be beyond my ability (red and orange to lvl 17). Luck would have it that a noble druid was located nearby and he agreed to assist me in gaining the other world soil.
Now my feet carried me back to Howth, where Cait informed me that my travels were far from over. I needed to seal the magic between the soil and the spores. Only Ainrebh of Callie the enchanter could perform this feat. So I went to the stablemaster and rode to Mag Mell, ran east and south around the loch to the barn (near the parths). The stableman there was able to transport me to Druim Cain. I knew that Caille was on this same route, and I jumped form the horse as I rode past.
Ainrebh, who was inside the main village building, told me that yet the quest continued, for I must find one final ingredient, the grass seeds from a, yes grass sheerie. I ran from town and began climbing the steeply sloped hills nearby, heading generally west by north west. As I was not familiar with the area, it was pure luck to stumble upon the grass sheerie named Fearan (blue at lvl 17) Loc: 24k,27.5k (also seen at loc=24659, 26875. This is roughly WNW of Caille and on the hill SSE of the Druid Circle and loc=22711, 33774) . Good luck for me bad luck for him. With grass seeds in hand, I returned to Ainrebh. He performed the enchantment upon the potted soil and the quest was all but over. I decided to run the final leg to Druim Cain and travel by horse from there to Druim Ligen. Setting my horse to run free at Ardee I returned to Fianait in triumph with her new otherworld potted soil. She was kind enough to reward me with (about 5 dashes of xp) a woven grass helmet she had made for me. Its wondrous abilities, were alas wasted on me, a champion. But what a quest it was!
*I also did this quest as Mentalist, but to get the soil it was a little bit different :
I go to Cait in Howth, and he told me to speak with Merlo and he's somewhere around Howth. So I went to Merlo and said to him "soil from the otherworld"
and he told me that of course he had some and gave it to me.
And I found Fearan at Loc 22,34 he's somewhere around there and yellow at 16 and has a companion (blue) (also seen at 18K/34K running along the crest of the hill).
Reward: Woven Grass Helm
