The Jordheim bartender told me a story over a mug of ale about a boy named Thrand

Prugar told me to look for Thrand outside Mularn. He was worried about his brother. Thrand is located near a tree next to the guard tower just outside the town of Mularn. Loc: 42398, 48978. Seems Thrand has another possible loc in Gotar, loc 22,46 There is a guard tower manned by Svartalf just behind it to the south if a small farm and Thrand is stood by the haystack to the left as you approach.

Thrand says, "Hi there, have you ever heard of the Svartalfs? They're terrible! They are callous, cold-blooded killers, and I think my brother is [working for them]!"

Thrand says, "Yes, working for them. But my brother isn't anything like that. He's great at hiding in the shadows and maybe he's redistributed a little wealth, but I don't think that he'd work for the Svartalfs. He is a good person, not a killer! I just know something is wrong. He won't tell me anything though, he thinks he's protecting me. But he might talk to you. Do you think you could go [see him] for me?"

Dialog box: Will you help Thrand find out if his brother Piercer is mixed up in Svartalf business?

You have been given the Family Business quest.

Thrand says, "Thank you so much! You have no idea what this means to me. Piercer has been living in West Svealand, above and north of the main Svartalf camp. Be careful and stay far away from them, they don't [trust] anyone and will often attack."

Thrand says, "Ah you're right. Piercer won't trust you either. Hmmm, let's see, I know! Tell him you have a message for Halvor. That's his real name and if you use it he'll know I sent you. Good luck, I just hope it's not too late. He's the only family I have."

[Step #1] Tell Piercer that you have a message for [Halvor]. Piercer is on the ridge west of Huginfell, overlooking the Svartalf camp.

Piercer says, "What are you doing here, spying? Give me one good reason I shouldn't just kill you right now."

You say, "I have a message for Halvor."

Piercer says, "So! You know my real name, do you? Keep your voice down, there are unfriendly ears nearby. My brother Thrand must have told you. I don't blame him for worrying, I'm in real trouble this time. I got involved with these treacherous Svartalfar and now they want me to [kill someone]."

Piercer says, "Shhhh! Not so loud. Yes, murder. You're probably not familiar with the Svartalfar, so before I ask you to help me I'll explain a little about them. The Svartalfar, the Arachites and the Varulv are all involved in a long-standing dispute over the Myrkwood area. The Svartalfar think that they were there first and that the other two groups are invading their [territory]."

Piercer says, "The three factions are constantly fighting amongst themselves, sometimes in open combat, but more often they send agents to murder key personalities and sabotage plans. The Svartalfar have become adept at sneak attacks and assassinations and are pretty unscrupulous about what they'll agree to do to increase their holdings and resources. I didn't realize they were such a bad bunch when I first got involved and now they won't let me leave. They say they're going to kill my brother Thrand if I don't do this job for them! Can you [help] me?"

Piercer says, "Maybe Graesen will talk to you. I report to him, and if you tell him that I'd be a terrible assassin maybe he'll just let me leave. See the camp below? Graesen is just to the east of it."

[Step #2] Find Graesen in or around the Svartalf camp. See if he will release Piercer from his Svartalf obligations.

Graesen says, "What brings you skulking around here? Lookin' for work? I've got plenty hereabouts. Good money in it for you, too. 'Course we don't want none of them types that gets cold feet, like [Piercer]."

Graesen says, "He's a new guy, and a pitiful fool that don't have no guts. Promised he'd do a job, now says he's scared."

Graesen appears to think something over and then gets a treacherous gleam in his eye.

Graesen says, "I 'spose we could call it off, but someone would need to contact our arachite agent and tell him. That ain't gonna be easy. Those arachites are fighters and he'll probably attack before he hears the message. Want to [do it]?"

Graesen says, "The agent is in Myrkwood, disguised as an arachite priest (or weblasher or shadowslinker for another version). Just tell him Graesen sent you."

[Step #3] Find Graesen's agent in Myrkwood and tell him [Graesen sent me]. He's disguised as an arachite priest. Remember, he'll probably attack when he sees you.

Locate an arachite priest (or weblasher or shadowslinker or great tingler)and tell him that Graesen sent you, you will most likely have to do this while being attacked, even if gray con.

You say, "Graesen sent me."

The arachite priest says, "Then Graesen sent you to your death, fool! We know his plans, and every arachite will defend Priest Thaxtix to the death. Let me give you a taste of where my loyalties lie!"

The arachite priest says, "If the Svartalfs sent you, tell them we will all fight to the end.

[Step #4] Obviously Graesen tried to trick you by sending you into a trap. You can go back and tell Piercer of Graesen's trickery OR you can return and report to the treacherous Graesen.

**Return to Piercer version**

[Step #4] Talk to Piercer.

Piercer says, "You're okay! I was so worried! Graesen came and said that he'd tricked you into working for them, then sent you into a trap! You're a true friend for risking yourself for me. Did you bring anything back with you?"

You say, "The arachite priest dropped Priest Thaxtix Schedule."

Piercer says, "I've heard of Priest Thaxtix, he's the one the Svartalfar want me to assassinate. He and his priests have been performing ceremonies and sacrifices to gain enough power to launch a full attack on the Svartalfar. That's why Graesen wants him and his followers out of the picture so badly. You've got a lot more than that to worry about though. I overheard Graesen order someone to kill you if you [returned] from his trap!"

Piercer says, "A Svartalfar named Rip was told to do the job. He's big, mean, and won't stop until he's done it. I think the best thing would be for you to take the initiative and go after him first. He is Southwest of here, under a tree outside the main camp."

**Return to Graesen version**

After you kill the arachite weblasher, return to Graesen. Graeson is suprised to see you and tells you to see a friend of his, Rip, to the east of the camp. He will try and kill you.

**Conclusion**
Either way you are sent to Rip.

[Step #5] Find and kill Rip, to the Southwest of the main Svartalf camp in West Svealand.

Rip says, "What are you doing here? I should thank you for saving me the trouble of finding you. Prepare to die!"

Kill Rip and return to Piercer.

[Step #6] Talk to Piercer.

Piercer says, "Nice work, I'm glad Rip won't be bothering us anymore. I wish I had courage like yours. Then my little brother wouldn't be in danger. Will you please [help] me take care of Priest Thaxtix?"

Piercer says, "Please go and kill Priest Thaxtix for me. You might need to bring a few friends along to help because Thaxtix is usally surrounded by his lesser priests. Bring back proof that he's dead, so I can turn it in and then quit the Svatalfar. Here is some silver for you also, to reimburse some of what you've spent on travel. Taking a horse from Huginfell to Myrkwood and back can get expensive."

You receive 20 silver from Piercer

[Step #8] Find Priest Thaxtix in Myrkwood and kill him, so you can bring proof of his death to Piercer. You may need to bring some friends to help you, because Priest Thaxtix is often surrounded by his priests.

Locate and kill Priest Thaxtix and return to Piercer with proof. He is north from the werewolf fort, across the lake. Thaxtix spawns on the west shore of the lake north of the Werewolf fort. You can either go west from Gna, past the ww fort, and turning north, following the lake edge; or go north from Gna, then west around the the north shore of the lake. The location is approximately 10000,31000. BUT sometimes he pops as a regular priest, you may have to kill it a few times to get him to pop. Kill him and give his leg to Piercer.

Priest Thaxtix says, "You shall pay for this outrage against the Arachites! You shall pay..."

You receive Priest Thaxtix's leg from Priest Thaxtix!

[Step #9] Return Priest Thaxtix's leg to Piercer.

Piercer says, "You're back! Did you bring proof that you killed Priest Thaxtix?"

Piercer says, "I don't know how to thank you, you've done so much for me and my brother. Perhaps you can get some use out of these boots. I came by them honestly, and they have some useful properties. Thanks gain for your help."

You receive the Boots of Favor from Piercer!

You have finished the Family Business quest.

Thrand is a teensy guy standing by a tree just a few feet northeast of the tower doors (the tower just outside Mularn). I ran all over looking for him, he is so dang small he is easy to miss.

Thaxtix spawns on the west shore of the lake north of the Werewolf fort. You can either go west from Gna, past the ww fort, and turning north, following the lake edge; or go north from Gna, then west around the the north shore of the lake. The location is approximately 500,31000.

Thaxtix spawns only every other day or so, but he's an easy kill for a level 20 hunter, and he is alone. It's also a great spot for killing great tinglers if you stay near the water. If you head any farther north/northwest, it's serious arachite country.

Item dependant on class...

This quest will give you an item dependant on you class.

I am a Runmaster and received Slippers of Favor, the only difference in the item is that instead of +3 to Con, it is +3 to Piety and is a cloth item.

Also Thane receives ?Chain? Boots of Favor which is chain and is a +3 to STR.

Thanks, hope this helps...
